OXFORD – Gertrude Hataway, 101, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at her home in Oxford.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WATER VALLEY – Case Devon Hawkins, 41, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence. He was a native of Compton, Calif. He was the son of William Hawkins and the late Evelene Hawkins. He was a member of Oak Grove CME Church in Water Valley. He was a graduate of Water Valley High School where he played football. He was employed with SMW, Inc in Oxford. He enjoyed friends and his pit bulls.
Services will be at noon Monday at Springhill North MB Church in Water Valley with the Rev. Bobby Hall officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Hawkins of Water Valley; one daughter, Myracle Hawkins of Water Valley; his father and stepmother, William and Shelia Hawkins of Oxford; one brother, Craig (Shenetha) Hawkins of Water Valley; two sisters, Chandraleka Thompson and Eulana Beavers, both of Oxford; his mother-in-law, Christine Bolden of Water Valley; and his father-in-law, Herron Bolden of Coffeeville.
Visitation is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Oak Grove CME Church in Water Valley.
BLUE SPRINGS – Herman Wayne Payton, 73, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County. He was born June 8, 1939, to Homer and Cardia Rutherford Payton in New Albany.
Service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beaver Dam Church. Burial is at Jamison Grove Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two grandchildren, Letonia Brown of New Albany and Kenneth Wayne Brown of Fory Campbell, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Octavious Rutherford, Christopher Brown, Edna Turnage and Truth Brown; one brother, Noverta Payton (Jessie) of Peoria; tow sisters, Joyce Shannon of Nashville, Tenn., and Dr. Marinelle Payton of Jackson; his companion of 30 years, Mary Freeman; her son, William Freeman; and her grandchildren, William II, Alexis and Christopher Freeman and Brianna Desir.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Hamer Payton Shannon; brother, O’Neal Payton; and his daughters, Edwina Brown and Kim Payton.
Pallbearers will be his friends.
Visitation is 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Serenity Chapel.

DERMA – Dorothy Faye Harville, 82, died Satuday, July 28, 2012, at Calhoun Health Service Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was a member of Duncan Hill Baptist Church. She previously worked for Kellwood Garment Co., and in the furniture industry. She was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother.
Service is at 3 p.m. today at Parker Memorail Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Benny Hill officiating. Internment is at Pinecrest Memorial Garden in Calhoun City.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Harville (Brenda) of Big Creek; six brothers, Melvis, E.L., J. M., and Clovis McCormick, all of Bruce, Jessie David McCormick of Sarepta and Ottis Wayne McCormick of Saltillo; two sisters, Idell York of Olive Branch and Bobbie Watkins of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Twila Davidson of Cordova, Tenn., Colton Harville of New Albany and Rod Wells of Big Creek; and four great-grandchildren, Miriam, Jordan and Brave Wells and Aynzley Riddle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Harville; and her parents, Ira and Euris Tutor McCormick.
Pallbearers are Gary, Kevin, Mike, Perry, Scotty and Tony McCormick.

BALDWYN – Gary “Buster” Hester, 57, died June 27, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Baldwyn. He was owner and operator of H and G Fencing Company. He enjoyed cattle farming, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church with Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating with burial in the Unity Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Hester of Baldwyn; children, Tonya Brown (Ronald) of Eggville, Jimmy Hester, Brandy Hester and Nicole Morgan (Craig) of Baldwyn; sisters, Mary Ann Peden (Joe) and Paula Thomas (Jon); brother-in-law, Steve Williams, grandchildren, Cassie Hester, Josh Hester and Hunter Hester; nephew, Daniel Duvall; and nieces, Juli Young, Emily Edge, Christy Keith and Bonnie Bearden.

NETTLETON – Margie Faye Young Pennington, 82, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. She was born May 10, 1930, in Florence, Ala., to Bill and Etoyle Rossell Young. She was a native of Itawamba County but had resided in Nettleton for the past 20 years. She was a retired factory worker and a Methodist. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and loved to listen to gospel music.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include on daughter, Barbara Millyer (Dudley) of the Carolina Community; three sons, Robert “Bobby” Pennington (Nancy), Charles Larry Pennington (Janice) and David Micheal “Mike” Pennington, all of Nettleton; one sister, Florence Poore of Nettleton; two brothers, Charles Young of Nettleton and Buddy Young of Tupelo; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O. “Dick” Pennington; her parents; and three brothers, Marcus Young, James Young and Grant Young.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Miller, Terry Tartt, Robert Allen Pennington, Eugene Conwill, Jamie Pennington and Donnie Young.

Survivors include one son, Marc (Laurie) Sorkin; one sister, Bella Haber of New York; three grandchildren, Adam, Alison and Jonathan.

PEPPERTOWN – Kathryn Shedd Nanney, 86, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born June 22, 1926, to James and Minnie Shedd. She was a member of Friendship Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family, fishing and quilting. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was always happy and content and a blessing to those who loved and knew her.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Friendship Methodist Church with Bro. Bobby Hankins and Bro. Darrell Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Rickey Nanney (Judy) of Nettleton; four grandchildren, Monica Mathis (Lee) and Wade Nanney (Ginger), all of Mantachie, Hope Combs (Wally) of Nettleton and Beth Cary (Brent) of Plantersville; six great-grandchildren, Brandy Graham (John), Britny Aberle (Darrell), Jesse Nanney, and John Nanney, all of Mantachie, Dalton Combs of Nettleton and Dylan Cary of Plantersville; five great-great-grandchildren, Hope, Braden, Megan, Madison and Braxton; four sisters, Beverly Bedford (Bill) of Saltillo, Betty Sue Harris of Auburn, Imogene Herndon of Evergreen and Eunice Hill of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Nanney of Mantachie; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Kirk “Bunk” Nanney; one son, Jim Nanney; a great-grandson, Brandon Henry; three brothers, Leroy Shedd, Verbon Shedd, and Lester Shedd; and one sister, Avonell Shedd.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Aberle, John Graham, Jesse Nanney, John Nanney, Ken Phillips, Lee Trammel, Larry Shedd and Mike Davis.
Visitation will be 9 to 12:30 p.m. at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton and one hour prior to service time today at the Friendship Methodist Church.

HOUSTON – Jim David “J.D.” Walters, 76, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born April 30, 1936, in Houston, to Preston Walters and Loma Blansett Walters. He was a retired employee of the Water Department for the city of Houston.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with the Rev. Bobby Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Linley Walters of Houston; his daughters, Ann (Mike) Doss of Pontotoc and Kathy (John) Hill of Houston; his sons, Wayne (Ruthie) Walters of Houston and John Walters of Helfin, Ala.; his grandchildren, Jonathan Doss, David Walters, Hannah Walters, Chris Parker, Amber Parker, Preston Walters and Eric Walters; his great-grandchildren, Jaylin Parker and Conner Doss; and his sisters, Gladys Rhodes of Houston and Charlotte (Joe) Dobbs of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandaughter, Wendy Doss.
