EUPORA – Helen “Tincy” Brown Williams, 71, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. Born June 15, 1938, in Webster County, she was a retired Nurses Aid and homemaker and a member of Lollars Grove Baptist Church in Webster County.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Montevista Baptist Church with Bro. James Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Montevista Cemetery. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Williams of Eupora; son, Thomas L. Williams (Angela) of Eupora; two sisters, Ruth Chandler of Eupora and Margie Warren of Pontotoc; brother, Tony Brown of Eupora; and one grandchild, Amber Williams of Eupora.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time today at the church.

GLEN – Charles O. Henderson, 77, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cutshall Funeral Home of Glen.

MYRTLE – James “Newt” Newton Messer, 79, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Darlington Oaks Care Center in Verona. He was born in Union County on Oct. 18, 1929, to the late James D. Messer and Ollie Lee Benefield Messer and retired from Mohasco Manufacturing Company after 42 years of service. He was a member and deacon of Poolville Baptist Church, a 3rd Degree Mason and was the Father of the Messer Family Singing Group and former member of M.L. Gafford and The Hitters and The New Albany Gospelairs gospel singing groups.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Don Shaffer, Bro. Larry Harrison and Bro. Tony Monk officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nannie J. Messer; daughter, Betty J. Shaffer (Danny); two sons, Wayne Messer (Cathy) and Bobby Messer (Janice); sister, Robbie Jean Stevens; two brothers, Billy Carrol Messer and Jerry Messer; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Chester Messer.
Pallbearers will be Benjie Messer, Mark Higgason, John David Haynes, Joel Willard, Jerry Merritt, Kenny Gaines, Terry Luker and Ronnie Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers will be John W. Haynes, Dwayne Stroud, Sonny Goolsby, Bobby Gregory, John Washington, Joe Shaffer, Bob Luker and James Grubbs.

Josie Rivers Humphrey
BALDWYN – Josie Rivers Humphrey, three week old infant, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Women’s Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Jericho Cemetery with Bro. Neil Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Jericho Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her parents, Brandi Humphrey and Jeff Webb, both of Baldwyn; two sisters, Della Ensey and Alexandria Webb; grandparents, Sue Humphrey and Trent Floyd of Baldwyn, Tim Webb of Baldwyn and Linda Healy; great-grandparents, Carl and Ruth Williams of Baldwyn; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Humphrey.
Gertrude Brassfield
HOUSTON – Gertrude Laura Terry Brassfield, 94, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Floy Dyer Nursing Home in Houston after a sudden illness. Born Sep. 21, 1914, in Cordova, Ala., she was a seamstress in a garment factory but her greatest love was caring for others’ children.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Samuel officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Memorial Funeral home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Lani Houston of Houston and Venessa Trejo (Eleuterio) of Aberdeen; two brothers, Osborn Terry of Okolona, Ala., and J.W. Terry of Berry, Ala.; three sisters, Josie Brantly, Nora Johnson and Virginia Fowler, all of Berry, Ala.; five grandchildren, James Bonner, Sherry Goodson, Leslie Adams, Van Hagy and Johnny Adkins; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Faye Brassfield, Inez Dodson, May Gann and Carrie Terry; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellie and Leaty Garnet Terry; her husband, James “Jim” Brassfield; six brothers, Olan, Edward, Vernon, Clayton, Clyde and Ray Terry; and four sisters, Beverly Bonner, Ola Mae Swanson, Portia Baird and Magdalene Terry.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Dr. Noel Garcia and employees of Floy Dyer Nursing Home will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lucille Keith
PONTOTOC – Lucille Keith, 89, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at her residence. She was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Pontotoc County. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and she was a homemaker.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Greg Herndon officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her three daughters, Helen Hatton (Jack) of Byhalia and Elsie Matthews (Jack) and Brenda Clark (Terry), both of Pontotoc; two sons, Larry Keith (Linda) and Gerald Keith (Linda), both of Pontotoc; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Meldie Hester; her husband, Lester Keith; three sons, Roy “Bud” Keith, David “Red John” Keith and an infant son; six sisters; and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Hopkins, James Keith, Gerald Keith Jr., Kojack Chambers, Terry Wayne Clark and David Vernon.

NETTLETON – Roger Dale “Bulldog” Hall, 54, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Darlington Oaks – Community Hospice in Verona. He was born Oct. 6, 1954, in Lee County to Marvin and Sula Hall. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton and a former employee of Peoploungers Furniture in Nettleton for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching Ole Miss sports on television and was a member of Richmond Pentecostal Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Payne and Bro. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Louise Oliver Hall of Nettleton; one daughter, Contina Louise Newcomb (Terry) of Mantachie; two sons, Jimmy Hall (Christy) of Nettleton and Kenny Hall of Tupelo; two sisters, Sarah Fowler of Nettleton and Annie Allred of Tupelo; three brothers, John C. TUPELO – Rhonda Wilson, 58, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Guntown native, she was born Dec. 8, 1950, to Thomas Jefferson and Lila Vance Bishop Greene. She married Mitchell Wilson Sep. 22, 1978. They made their home in Guntown until the mid 80’s before moving to Saltillo. She worked in customer service with the furniture manufacturing industry at both Action Industries for 17 years and Independent Furniture for 7 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Guntown. She enjoyed working in her yard, being a homemaker, collecting porcelain dolls and especially time with the grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Mitchell Wilson; one daughter, Lacey Little (B. J.); one son, Howard amp”Flipamp” Phillips (Robin); one stepdaughter, Tonya Carlock (Jason), all of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Madison Little, Avery Little, Zack Phillips and Shelbie Phillips; three stepgrandchildren, Brooke Carlock, Braxton Carlock and Bowen Carlock; and one brother, Freddie Greene of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

TUPELO – Dorothy Marie Swindoll Sledge, 79, formerly of Houston, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born May 6, 1929, in Choctaw County to the late Ira Swindoll and Ethel Card Swindoll. She was retired from Pearson’s Drug Store in Houston and she was a member of the Church of God. She loved her favorite pet, Tiny, the teacup poodle.
Services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Linn Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery in Webster County.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Brents (Larry) of Tupelo; three sons, Bobby R. Sledge (Jean) of Houston and Gary L. Sledge and James C. Sledge, both of Tupelo; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Edwards Swindoll of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Jim Stacy Brents (Jennifer) of Houlka, Edward Scott Brents (Kimberly) of West Point and Stephen Jay Brents (Caroline) of Pontotoc; great-grandchildren, Dakota Brents, Dannah Brents, Jackson Brents, Allison Brents, Jackson Langley and Skyla Johnson.
