HOLLY SPRINGS – Alice Claire Shaw, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Christopher’s in Holly Springs. She was born March 13, 1915, in Byhalia. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs. She was the retired director of Marshall County Library. She was a member and officer of Pilot Club, DAR and UDC.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery of Holly Springs.
Survivors include her daughter, Marsha Noah (Marvin) of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Halle Shaw, and parents, John Paulin Jones and Ida Gardner Jones.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today.
Gloria Weisenfels
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Gloria Patricia Ann Weisenfels, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Treasure Chest Hospice in Fort Pierce, Fla. She was born in St. Louis and lived in Fort Pierce for 13 years, coming from Tupelo.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynne M. Weisenfels of Vero Beach; son, Chris L. Weisenfels of Dickson, Tenn.; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Robert Edgar Weisenfels.
Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 S.E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.

Norman Armstrong
WEST POINT – Dennis Norman Armstrong, 77, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. He was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Clay County to Irene Wilson Armstrong and Elvey Leroy Armstrong. He worked at Blazon Flexible Flyer in management. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1954-58. He married Lucille Deas Armstrong on Dec. 18, 1971, at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. He was sectetary-treasurer for the Men’s 5th Sunday Bible Class. He was a former Arts Council director. A 4-H member, he was a volunteer and leader for more than 60 years. He also participated in many other civic duties. After retiring he enjoyed his small catering buisness. In between all of his volunteering he enjoyed creating handmade greeting cards and posters for friends and family.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation with the Rev. Dr. Bryan Owen and the Rev. John Kellogg officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Deas Armstrong of West Point; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy Armstrong, and parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.

HOUSTON – Thelma Joyce Powell Holman, 77, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at her home in Houston after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Myrtle.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland. Wright amp& Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, John Holman of Houston; son, the Rev. Mitchell Powell and Caroline of Mobile, Ala.; granddaughter, Valerie Colom and Doug of Raymore, Mo.; grandsons, Brandon Powell and Linda of Dexter, Mo., and Justin Powell of Huntington, W.Va.; great-granddaughters, Jilion and Mia Colom; niece, Myra Kaye Davis of Houston, Jeremy Davis, Terry Wayne Davis of Pueblo, Colo., Lynn Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., Sheri Alford of Houston; and a special friend, Mary Davis of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Doc Lockley and Willie Lockley; first husband, Edward Powell Jr.; brothers, Howard, Richard, Henry and Alvin Lockley; sisters, Christine Austin and Dorothy Davis; and a nephew, Adolph Davis.

BLUE SPRINGS – Dale Pannell Rakestraw, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born in New Albany on Dec. 5, 1928, to Walter Pannell and Katrina Gibson Pannell. She was a homemaker and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for 35 years. She enjoyed painting, making dolls, cooking and doing arts and crafts.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at New Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Nail, Bro. Johnny Rakestraw and Bro. Doug Rakestraw officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Houston Rakestraw of Blue Springs; one son, Johnny Rakestraw (Donna) of Blue Springs; two sisters, Joyce Brown of New Albany and Betty Jo Speck of Selmer, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Natalie Satterwhite (Shane), Josh Rakestraw (Allison), Doug Rakestraw (Rebecca) and Jamie Rakestraw; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marilyn Rakestraw Lanphere; two brothers, Roy Pannell and Jerry Pannell; and three sisters, Opal Reaver, Christine Randolph and Hazel Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Fleet Rowan, Roy Caldwell, Shane Satterwhite, Josh Rakestraw, Doug Rakestraw and Johnny Rakestraw.
The body will lie in repose at the church from 10 a.m. to service time today.

FALKNER – Mary Katherine Kathy Cossitt LaBarreare, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Ashland Health and Rehab Center. She was born Jan. 24, 1933, to Ernest M. and Alberta Brumley Cossitt in Tippah County. She was a graduate of NEMCC in Booneville, where she attended on a basketball scholarship. She retired as secretary for Scott Foam and Fabric Inc. in Memphis. She also worked several years for Stricks Store amp& Grill in Falkner. She was a member of the Falkner Baptist Church.
Services were Monday, Sept. 24, at Falkner Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Lewellen, Bro. Randy Hamilton and Bro. Maurice Pinkston officiating. Burial was in Falkner Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Dark (Joe) of Charleston, Mo.; granddaughter, Kimberly Stockdale (Eric) of Houston, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Max Stockdale and Darcy Stockdale, both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Kay Graves and Trudy Hamilton, both of Ripley; one brother, Ray Cossitt (Barbara) of Tiplersville; three sisters-in-law, Vannie Cossitt of Walnut, Dorothy Cossitt Minor of Tiplersville and Jeannie Mae Goolsby of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny T. LaBarreare; son, Roger Keith LaBarreare; her parents; four brothers, Allen Cossitt, Billy Cossitt, Luther Cossitt and Tom Cossitt; and one sister, Bea Rowland.

RIPLEY – Ella Jean Richardson Roberson, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at her residence in Ripley. She was born May 31, 1936, to Jess Richardson and Francis Fannie Bryant Richardson. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Latch, Bro. Bob McKee and Bro. Larry Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard R.T. Roberson of Ripley; one daughter, Judy Johnson (Mike) of Ripley; one son, Jimmy Dale Roberson (Lynn) of Blue Mountain; one sister, Zelpha “Zanny” Richardson of Ripley; one brother, Homer Richardson (Sara) of Ripley; and four grandchildren, Kasie Dollar (John Wynn) of Walnut, Richard Roberson of Blue Mountain, and Micah Johnson and Pierce Johnson, both of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Bill Richardson and Clinton Dick Richardson.

WEST POINT – Kenneth Dale Ken Walls Jr., 33, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, in Scooba. He was born April 11, 1979, in West Point to Peggy Hill Walls and Kenneth Dale Walls Sr. He was a member of Mississippi Army National Guard, where he was an E5, having served in Honduras, Germany and Iraq from 2003-2004. He married Allyson Terry Walls on April 30, 2000, in Gulfport.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Bro. Terry Veazey officiating and Bro. Eric Catcher assisting. Jessie Carter
OKOLONA – Jessie Wayne Carter, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Pontotoc County on Feb. 15, 1936, to William and Pearl Minor Carter. He served in the Mississippi National Guard and spent over three decades in Illinois, where he was employed for 33 years with ATamp&T, retiring as a supervisor. He returned to Mississippi 17 years ago, lived over 10 years in the Thorn community of Chickasaw County and had lived the last five years in Okolona. A member of the Apostolic faith, he pastored on the radio and pastored a church in Illinois. An avid gunsmith, he enjoyed life in general, watching TV, especially “NCIS,” camping, and owning and caring for his horses.
A graveside service will be held at 5 p.m. today at Springville Cemetery on Highway 9 in Pontotoc County with Sis. Lounez Scrivner and Bro. Freddie Scrivner officiating. Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sons, Wayne Carter (Denise) of Sandwich, Ill., and Jeffrey Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Donna Marie Carter of Atlanta; children’s mother, Helen Carter of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Eric Carter (Devahn), Dana Carter Manning (Jason) and Megan Carter; four great-grandchildren, Mythys, Aiden, Nolan and Kenadi; a brother, H.A. Carter (Evelyn) of Hattiesburg; his special friend, Elizabeth Gaskin of Okolona; and other caregivers the last five years, Elizabeth Ann Gaskin and Sandie and Rickey Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Pallbearers will be his son, Wayne, Rickey Scott, Mem Riley, Pete Dexter, Gary Allen, Johnny Allen, Shawn Humbers and Freddy Scrivner.
