MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Dennis Holland Sr. died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Agnew and Son Funeral Home of Baldwyn.
BELMONT – Casendra Ann Rouse Pruitt, 50, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at her residence.
Service will at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Ellen Jean Thorn, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012. She was born March 26, 1925. She was a concert pianist and was awarded a scholarship to Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis., due to her musical talents. Before joining the Navy, she helped manufacture munitions for the war effort. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, she retired from the U.S. government as a management specialist. She was a member of MENSA and served several years in the Senior Horizons of Huntsville Hospital. She served as a Silver Hair Legislator for the state of Alabama, was president of NARF and secretary of the State Federation of Chapters for NARF.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Survivors include her children, John Marshall Thorn (Robin) of Northport, Ala., Cecelia Jean Thorn of Fredericksburg, Va., Suzanne Christine May (Thomas) of Huntsville and Richard Herman Thorn (Melitta) of Harvest, Ala.; grandchildren, Christine Byrd Harris, Thomas Ryan May, Joslyn Thorn, Bethany Morgan Griffith and Shane Richard Thorn; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Noel Bently of Highwood, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Jerome Thorn of Fulton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
WALNUT – Nelda Perry, 57, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foster and Son Funeral Home in Ripley.
FULTON – Jesse Hill, 70, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born March 24, 1942, in New Albany to Alfred W. and Lola B. Sanford Hill. He was a retired employee from Day Brite Lighting. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved being with his family and friends and was an avid auction enthusiast. He was a happy, content and kind-hearted person who was a blessing to those who loved and knew him.
Service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Shappley officiating. Internment is at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in New Albany.
He is survived by daughters, Tina Hill Monday (Scott) of Plainfield, Ill., and Sarah Hill of Aurora, Ill.; son, Justin Hill of Aurora, Ill.; brother, Malcolm Hill (Gwen) of New Albany; long time friend and caregiver, Nellie Reeves; sister-in-law, Agnes Hill of New Albany; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, R.K. and Wilburn “Al” Hill; and sisters, Addie Jarvis and Margie Hill.
Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Huddle House in Fulton.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until service time Monday.

ABERDEEN – Sandra Sue Roberts Belk, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was born March 5, 1944, in Monroe County to Gladys Hall Roberts and Doyle Roberts. She was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. She retired from Walker Manufacturing as a line worker. She also was a waitress at Shelaine Restaurant.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Bro. David Foreman officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Todd Belk of Aberdeen; and two sisters, Barbara Dickens (Paul) and Shirley Teffeteller, both of Aberdeen.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lemmons, Bob Lemmons, Jay Dickens and Mike Laird.

BELMONT – Dorothy Fikes Hamm died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. She was born in Itawamba County, Jan. 28, 1937, to Clarence and Vera Umfress Fikes. She was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of the Belmont First Baptist Church and the Ladies Fellowship Class. She enjoyed reading and collecting recipes.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Belmont with Bro. Ray Burks and Bro. Jack Maroon officiating. Burial will be in the Belmont Memory Gardens. Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Hamm; one son, Terry Hamm (Liz) of Guntersville, Ala.; two grandsons, Cade and Will Hamm of Guntersville, Ala.; four brothers, Mitchel Fikes of Mantachie, Charles Fikes (Edith) of Tupelo, Harold Fikes of Saltillo and Ben Fikes (Linda) of Fulton; a sister-in-law Margaret Fikes of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jimmy Fikes.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Mike Fikes, Craig Fikes, Jason Fikes, Brian McMillian, Kenneth Scott, Danny Golding, Daniel Morgan and Darrell Riley. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Cade and Will Hamm and the Ruth Class from First Baptist Church.

TREMONT – Elizabeth “Liz” Funk, 69, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at her home in Hodges, Ala.

BATESVILLE – James “Jim” Conner Breedlove, 92, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at his home.

WALNUT – Elsie Irene Thornton Pannell, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at her home. She was born on June 20, 1924, to Martin and Roselie Antwine Thornton in Tippah County. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Harmony Baptist Church, in Walnut, with Bro. Kara Blackard, Bro. Mike Johnson and Bro. James “Pete” Sanders officiating. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery in Walnut. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Rainey of Walnut, Dollie Ramey (Jerry) of Trenton, Tenn., and Ollie Sanders (James “Pete”) of Ripley; one son, Roy Lee Pannell of Walnut; two sisters, Virginia Camburn and Mamie Ruth Stevens, both of Walnut; two brothers, Richard Thornton (Dorothy) and Charlie Ford Thornton, both of Walnut; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doll Pannell; her parents; two sons, John Jr. Pannell and Joe Pannell; two granddaughters, Amy Cooper and Lisa Ramey; one son-in-law, Dennis Copper; one sister; and two brothers.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Wayne Rainey, Chris Rainey, Keith Cooper, Michael Cooper, David Ramey and Eric Ramey. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Sanders, Phillip Camburn, Jerry Ramey and James “Pete” Sanders.
