SHERMAN – Jerry Don Bell Sr., 64, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., after an extended illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tupelo Chapel.

EUPORA – Pearl Poe Whitaker, 77, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eupora First Baptist Church with burial in Eupora City Cemetry. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

RIENZI – Willie M. Davis, 72, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary.
BOONEVILLE – James T. McKinney, 73, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McMillian Funeral Home.
PHEBA – Earl E. “Bub” Thompson, 82, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 5, 1930, in Clay County to Ray Edwin and Alice Clark Thompson Terry. He married Norma Lee Sharp Thompson on Oct. 18, 1952, in Hot Springs, Ark., and they were married for 60 years. He retired from the U.S. Army, retiring as an E-6 staff sergeant. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as postmaster from the Pheba Post Office. He was a member of Pheba Baptist Church and Pheba Masonic Lodge No. 565 F.&A.M.
Services with U.S. Army Military honors will be held at 10 a.m. today at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rites will follow in Pheba Cemetery in Pheba.
Survivors include his wife, Norma L. Thompson of Pheba; his two daughters, Becky McNeel (Bilbo) and Kay Davidson, both of Pheba; five grandchildren, Christy Latham (Brad), Coby McNeel (Mary Katherine), Brittany Williams, Kristin Williams (Jeremy Harpole) and Jake Davidson; six great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Ruth Echols (Richard) of West Point and Catherine “Sis” Brown of Pheba.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Williams; his son-in-law, Mark Davidson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Les and Darrell Sharp; and stepfather, James R. Terry.
Pallbearers will be Coby McNeel, Jake Davidson, Brad Latham, Jeremy Harpole, Ethan Williams and Wyatt Latham. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruble Alford, Bob Bates, O.M. Johnson, Ray West, Charles W. Peay, Winston Yeatman, Bill Nadeau, David Forrester and members of the Pheba Masonic Lodge #565 F.&A.M.

PLANTERSVILLE – Maggie Lou McCray, 85, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Golden Living Center. She was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jerusalem Church Cemetery in Nettleton, with the Elder William Stovall officiating. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her bothers and sisters, Odell McCray of Plantersville, Willie Lee McCray of Daton, Ohio, Rose Jernigan of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Mae Sue (Elder William) Stovall of Belden; and nephews, nieces and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Katie Meritt McCray; three sisters, Ida Lou Johnson, Lillie Mae Pounds and Mae Kate Walton; and one brother, Tomie Lee McCray.

CALHOUN CITY – James Braxton Patterson, 83, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born July 27, 1929, in Pittsboro, to William Clyde Patterson and Alma McFall Patterson. He was retired factory worker, a member of Derma Baptist Church, a member of American Legion and a World War II Army Veteran.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Vance, Bro. Danny Spratlin and Bro. Keith Spratlin officiating. Burial is in Pittsboro Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Fleming and Kim (Dale) Mitchell, all of Calhoun City; one sister, Tilda Harrelson of Calhoun City; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are Pat Harrelson, Keith Spratlin, Danny Spratlin, Rex Spratlin Jr., Raborn Hood and Jimmy McGregor. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Gray, Ike Phillips, Glenn Parker and Jeff Cannon.

CENTER POINT, Ala. – Linda Boren Hurley, 59, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, Ala. She was born Oct. 1, 1953, in Baldwyn, to Lawrence C. and Eula Mae Rogers Boren. She moved to Amory in 1976 from Zion, Ill. On Nov. 1, 1988, she married Bobby A. Hurley. For 10 years, she worked as a CNA with Beverly Healthcare.She attended Parkway Christian Fellowship in Birmingham. Hard-working, very loving and having a big heart, her family inspired and motivated her to live like there was no tomorrow as she battled cancer. Her life was centered on her family, having love and compassion for her patients and their families and being outdoors in her garden. She enjoyed flowers, animals and listening to her sons playing in their bands.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Chandler (Renee) of Hatley, Bryan Chandler (Brittany) of Hatley, and William Shane Chandler (Kelley) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sisters, Peggy Ward (Gary) of Center Point, Ala., and Carolyn J. Welford (Walt) of Golden; brother, Larry Boren of Red Bay, Ala.; grandchildren, Cody Chandler Mattox, Logan Chandler Mattox, Tessa and Kaley Chandler, C.J. McLemore and Skylar Chandler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie W. Boren.
Pallbearers will be Brian Lewis, Richard Lewis, Jordan Baxter, John Shackleford, Keith Shaddix and Dennis Ward. Honorary pallbearer will be C.J. McLemore.

SALTILLO – Irene McWhirter, 97, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks. She was born in Chickasaw County, on Aug. 5, 1915, to Floyd and Mary Maude Alford Naron. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her son, Robert McWhirter (Cathey) of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Mitch McWhirter (Laura) of Saltillo, Robbi Roach of Guntown, Sandy and Mike McWhirter of California; her step-grandson, Brad Harlow (Christy) of Saltillo; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Naron (Martha) of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, Robert Mitchell McWhirter.
Pallbearers will be Merrill and Bobby Albert Chrestman, Sam, Van, and Mitch McWhirter and Brad Harlow.
Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. today at the Saltillo Funeral Home.
