Carl Ballard
SHANNON – Carl Ballard, 72, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Jackson on Jan. 15, 1941, to Ernest Carl and Mary Inez Willis Ballard. He spent over 32 years in the military, serving in the Army, Air Force and the National Guard, retiring as a master sergeant. An entrepreneur, he was the co-owner with his late wife, Brenda, of Ballard Furniture. He still found time for volunteering and was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of the Tupelo Amateur Radio Club, Call No. K5BBA.
Services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. today at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Phil Wood officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include three sons, Ricky Lee (Tammy) of Brewer, David Lee (Lisa) of Nettleton and John Lee of Shannon; one daughter, Jessica McLevain (fiancé, Dee Sullivan) of Troy; seven grandchildren, Ashley Lann (Patrick), Amber Hall (Steve), Michael Lee, Brandon Mitchell Lee (Lenita), Brandon Paul Lee (Phyllis), Breanna Lee and Kyle Stafford; eight great-grandchildren, Ashtann, Madelynn, Seth, Kylie, Elli, Connor, Clint and Juleah; two sisters-in-law, Lillene Ballard of Shannon and Judy Ballard of Tupelo; two brothers, Paul Ballard (Ruth Jane) of Conyers, Ga., and Carley Ballard (Patsy) of Shannon; six sisters, Sally Harrison of Fayette, Ala., Ruth Bruce of Sherman, Mary Nell Gordon (Chester) of New Albany, Pat Warren of Saltillo, Judy Jones (Jerry) of Guntown and Charlene Centanni (Tony) of Thibodeaux, La.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Ballard; his parents; three brothers, William, Jim and Charlie Ballard; two sisters, Ann Hill and Sarah Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Michael Lee, Brandon Paul Lee, Brandon Mitchell Lee, Steve Hall, Patrick Lann, Steven Hilliard, Dee Sullivan, Michael Ballard and Carl Ballard.

Jimmy Cummings
TUPELO – Jimmy Lee Cummings, 74, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Lee County to Willie Richard Cummings and Addie Lee Wallace Rhodes. He was a member of Red Oak Grove M.B. Church in Tupelo. He was employed at Wall Lake Door and Parker Roofing and was later a self-employed roofer and an employee of Wondura/Stanley Mirrors before retiring.
Service will be at noon Saturday at Red Oak Grove M.B. Church with Dr. Jeffrey A. Gladney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangement.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Sue Ruff Cummings; four sons, Jimmy (Mary) Johnson, Johnny (Faye) Gray, Larry Gray and Jimmy Wayne (Michelle) Cummings; four daughters, Wanda K. Gray, Brenda Agnew, Diane Brown, and Shakesha Cummings; five sisters, Betty Lou Cleveland, Myrtle Seals, Lorene (George) Seals, Sadie Rogers and Annie Mae Rhodes; two brothers, John (Karen) Cummings and Michael (Brenda) Cummings; a sister-in-law, Maxcine Cummings; three aunts, Cornelia Cummings, Betty Cummings and Lottie Cummings; 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Allen Brown
BOONEVILLE – Allen Dale Brown, 57, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1955, in East Prairie, Mo., to Doll and Mildred Inez Sisk Brown. He was a Baptist. An antique dealer and auctioneer, he owned and operated Downtown Antiques in Booneville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auctioneering, and being with family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Mike Neighbors officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky Brown, whom he married on Dec. 17, 1988; two sons, Jason Brown (fiancée, Melinda Sanders) of East Prairie, Mo., and Cecil Vaughn of Booneville; two daughters, Misty Collins of Belmont and Tasha Donahue (Brandon) of Booneville; four sisters, Delores Ann Miller (Sam P.) of East Prairie, Mo., LaDonna Davis of Sikeston, Mo., Kay Lloyd of Rensselaer, Ind., and Karen Jones (Gordon) of East Prairie, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Landon Brown, Logann Donahue, Dillon Brown, Maddy Brown, Skylar Maxwell, Cobey Collins, Cassandra Vaughn, and Jasmine Vaughn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Angela Brown; two brothers-in-law, James Davis and Jim Lloyd Sr.
Honorary pallbearers are Dave Crowe, Gordon Jones, Brandon Donahue, Charlie Dodds, Gerald Dodds and Jeff Goodrum.

Mae Eunice Coleman
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – Mae Eunice Coleman, 79, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lower Prairie Creek M.B. Church Cemetery in Mantee. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Zelma Williams
DERMA – Zelma Hughes Williams, 80, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at her residence in Derma. She was a member of Goff Chapel Church. She was a retired employee of Joe’s Grocery Store and the widow of George Williams.
Celebration of life services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Porter’s Chapel CME Church in Calhoun City. Bishop Calvin Worthem will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Church Cemetery in Calhoun City. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda ( Calvin) Worthem of Thaxton, Geneva (Willie) Welch, Donna Williams and Vickie Williams, all of Calhoun City; one son, Eugene (Jackie) Stevens of Pheba; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation is two hours prior services at the church on Saturday.

Gook Conway
SHANNON – Andrew Lee “Gook” Conway Sr., 69, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born April 19, 1960, to Eldridge Adam and Willie Mae Conway. He was a member of Poplar Springs Church. He was retired from Foamex after 32 years. He was head cook for the Poplar family reunion for 40 years.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Springs Church. The Rev. Dr. Clementine Mays will officiate. Burial will be in Conway Cemetery. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Leddie Thornton Conway of Shannon; father, Robert Lee Jones of Shannon; two daughters, Tammy Conway and Banita Conway of Shannon; two sons, Andrew Lee Conway Jr. of Shannon and Jason Conway (Tonia) of Una; five sisters, Bernice Smith and Verries Ford (James) of St. Louis, Priscilla Jones, Willie Mae Jones and Rena Jones; six brothers, Jesse Jaones of St. Louis, Roy Jones, Reginald Jones (Shonta) Dennis Miller, L.C. Adams and Elgie Adams Jr.; three aunts, Mamie Bailey, Annis Fields and Isabella Conway; special niece, Teresa Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Curtis Thornton, Rudlolph Jones, Robert Lee Jones, Rickey Jones and Jessie “Rooster” Conway.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today with a wake from 6 to 7 p.m. today. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bennie Cohran
OXFORD – Bennie Ray Cohran, 59, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his residence in Oxford. A native of Lafayette County, he was the son of Frank Cohran and Juanita Joiner Terrell. He was a member of West Springhill M.B. Church. He was a custodian with the Oxford School District.
Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clear Creek M,B, Church. The Rev. John Crowder will officiate. Burial will be in West Springhill Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Tara Cohran of Memphis and Kesha Cohran-Ivy of Collierviulle, Tenn.; two sons, Jonathan Cohran of Memphis and Brandon Cohran of Oxfrod; his parents, William and Juanita Terrell of Oxford; four sisters, Bernice Webb and Bobbie McEwen, both of Oxford, Frances Bullock of Memphis and Brenda Dickerson of Arlington, Texas; six brothers, Arthur Cohran Sr. of Jackson, William Terrell Jr. of Smyrna, Tenn., Odis Terrell of Tupelo, Michael Terrell of Memphis, Christopher Terrell and Danny Buford, both of Oxford; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Cohran.

Paris Franks
MOOREVILLE – Paris Gracelyn Franks, 5, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 22, 2007, to Justin Franks and Tifphanie Barrett Franks. She enjoyed watching “Yo Gabba Gabba.” She loved listening to music, especially “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and {Jesus Loves Me,” and playing with jewelry and her little sister. She attended the McDougal Center in Tupelo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Father Nikolai Meyers and Bro. Doug Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fawn Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by her father, Justin Franks of Ballardsville, and her mother, Tifphanie Franks of Ballardsville; a sister, Nela Isabella Franks of Ballardsville, and a brother, Liam Rivers Franks of Ballardsville; her grandparents, Victor Barrett of Fulton, Teresa Barrett of Fulton, Coy “Mike” Franks of Ballardsville and Janice Franks of Ballardsville; her great-grandparents, Juanita Franks of Mantachie, Ann Whitt of Pontotoc, Tom Whitt of Pontotoc, Ann Moore of Fulton; a special uncle, Lane Posey of Fulton; a special aunt, Amberlie Posey of Fulton; cousin, Talon Reed Posey of Fulton; special uncle, Jason Franks of Ballardsville; a great-great-uncle, Richard “PawPaw” Gaines Stegall of Fulton; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Loella McGregor
PONTOTOC – Loella Whitworth McGregor, 96, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pontotoc where she provided the altar arrangements for 22 years. She enjoyed flowers and working with the area florist.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Pontotoc City Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis L. Hodum and Robert E. Hodum Sr. of Collierville, Tenn.; her son: Phillip L. McGregor of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister: Nell Flaherty of Pontotoc; two grandchildren, Kelly Hodum Stinson and Robert Ethan Hodum Jr.; and two great-grandsons, Ethan Kent Stinson and Joel Grant Stinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Jim Ike Whitworth and Lula McCord Whitworth; her husband, Samuel Harrison McGregor; and a brother, James Lowell Whitworth.

Hollis O. Weatherford
TUPELO – Hollis O. Weatherford, 87, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in the Ozark community of Itawamba County to Monroe and Gladys Weatherford. He enjoyed living in Georgia and Nicaragua, working in tool and die, and logging. After returning home in 1952, he made Tupelo his home, owning and operating Personal Finance Company until 1975 at which time he opened Weatherford’s Frame Shop. He was a master wood craftsman, and a man of many hobbies including beekeeping, gardening, and making grade stakes for surveyors in the area. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Club for many years. He loved his family, friends and church family at Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was a dedicated member from 1958 until his death, serving in many capacities before his health failed.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Father Paul Stephens officiating and Dr. Rick Brooks assisting. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to service time Sunday at the funeral home. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
He is survived by his three daughters, Dianne Arendt (George) of North Little Rock, Ark., Holly Bullock (Steve) of Tupelo and Barbara Boggs (C.M.) of Kingsport, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Scott Miller and Kimberly Bullock-Shurden; three great-grandchildren, Megan Miller, Conner Shurden and Ava Shurden; one brother, Tommy Weatherford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Forrester
SALTILLO – Kenneth Daniel Forrester, 51, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Tupelo on Nov. 17, 1961, to Daniel and Charlene Langley Forrester. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Private family visitation and services will be at W.E. Pegues.
Survivors include one son, Cary Forrester (Mariel) of Mooreville; one daughter, Kimberly Forrester Wilkes (Joseph Pafford) of Pontotoc; seven grandchildren, Hailey Danielle, Hannah and Layla Forrester, Destiny and Elizabeth Wilkes, Michael Killough and William Pafford; nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Christopher, Lexie, Jennifer and Kendra; aunt, Faye Patterson; uncle, Sam Patterson Sr.; brother, Perry Lynn Forrester, and sister, Delisa A. Hood (Merle), both of Saltillo; numerous aunts and uncles; and the mother of his children, Theresa Rogers.

EUPORA – Faye Dodd Macon, 70, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Eupora.

Betty Whiteside
TUPELO – Betty J. Whiteside, 57, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. She was a member of Living Word and Praise Sanctuary. She was a former employee of Bauhaus USA in Saltillo until 2006. Her pleasures of life were her family, sewing, cooking and during crossword puzzles.
Her Life Celebration Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the White Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Jeffery Daniel officiating and Pastor Tony Hereford delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Porter’s Memorial Park. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her children, John (Angela) Robinson Jr. of Shannon, Teffanie (Tyrone) Green of Tupelo, Addie (Jervis) Dillard of Belden; her aunt who reared her, Addie B. Shannon of Tupelo; her father, Albert Williams of Michigan; a special cousin, Johnnie Bowdry of Guntown; a special friend, Beverly Eckford of Baldwyn; 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her uncle who reared her, Etwell Thornton; her grandparents, Bishop T.D. and Alice Williams, Alice Hoskins and Felma Haynes; two brothers, Sonny Thornton and Shaw Thornton; her biological mother, Annie Pearl Jamison.
Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the J.W. Porter Chapel. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Kerion Russell
TUPELO – Kerion Russell, 94, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013. at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born in Union County on Oct. 24, 1918, to Henry and Georgie Roberts. She was a longtime resident of the Macedonia Community until moving to Tupelo several years ago. She was a member of Tupelo Freewill Baptist Church. She was an accomplished seamstress working many years for Joyner-Fields, Hunter-Sadler and Blue Bell. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, watching gospel videos, especially the Gaithers, and watching church services on television. She was a sister and a friend to many people.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her sister, Wanda Gilmore (Bobby) of Tupelo; an aunt, Tula Colvin of Florence, Ala.; a special cousin, Nell Cobb of Fairfield community; a brother-in-law, Bob Pegues of Pontotoc; a sister-in-law, Hazel Roberts of Memphis, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

BLUE MOUNTAIN – Billy Joe Tigrett, 58, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. He was born Jan. 3, 1955, to Mark and Leatrice Jones Tigrett. He was a Baptist and a retired construction worker.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tony Baker and Bro. Harlon Smith officiating. Burial will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Veronica Knowles (Kyle) of Dumas and Allison Hurt of Ripley; four sisters, Shirley Smith (Sherman) of Blue Mountain, Mary Moore of Savannah, Tenn., Jamie Stevens of Dallas, Texas, and Jimmie Gay (Larry) of Ripley; one brother, Terry Tigrett (Jan) of Blue Mountain; and one grandson, Jak Knowles of Dumas.

RED BAY, Ala. – Sherry V. Hutson Richardson, 54, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Tupelo. She was born Jan. 6, 1959, to Argie Hutson and Cleo Kerr Hutson. She worked at Genesco in Fulton for many years and also for Darrell Harp Enterprises in Red Bay, Ala. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Modern Woodman of The World. She enjoyed watching Alabama football, working with her flowers, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton with Bro. Greg Thorn and Bro. Tim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by sisters, Cindy Hutson of Tremont, Nancy (Ottis) Wilson of Fulton; brothers, Willis Hutson of Tremont, Wendell (Sandie) Hutson of Tremont, Jack (Debbie) Hutson of Fulton; five nieces, seven nephews.

HOULKA – Mark Thomas Hood, 43, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born June 13, 1969, in Houlka to Thomas and Dorothy Hood. He was a carpenter and a member of Cook Memorial Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston with Bro. Scott Samuell officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona.
Survivors include his father, Thomas Hood of Houlka; five children, Brett Hood and Marley Hood, both of Houlka, Clay Hood of Pontotoc, Katelyn Hood and Jared Hood, both of Houston; seven siblings, Johnny Hood and Rhonda of Houlka, Sherry Russell and Steve of Thaxton, Janet Clark and Billy of Houlka, Deidra Young of Okolona, Kevin Hood and Jody of Houlka, Melony Clark and Vic of Houlka, and Lara Huffman of Houston; his fiancée, Donna Stephenson of Houston; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Hood, and one brother Gary Hood.
Pallbearers will be James Hood, Jacob Clark, Michael Luther, Jock Moore, Joey Moody and Ricky Williams Jr.
