GUNTOWN – Mildred L. Barnes, 81, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at her home. She was born May 4, 1930, in Clay County to Orange and Amoree Loftin Harrell. She was a member of Ebernezer M.B. Church in Guntown, where she was minister of music and a member of the Missionary Society and Morning Star Court 105B. She was a music teacher and held many recitals with her students for more than 65 years. She was a retired employee of the North Mississippi Medical Center. She loved traveling, playing the piano, planting flowers, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite songs were “Going To See the King” and “In the Garden.”
A life celebration service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ebernezer M.B. Church with Pastor Tommy Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Memorial Park. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Amor J. Mitchell of Antioch, Calif., and Martha N. McClendon of Guntown; two sons, Dudley C. Barnes of Saltillo and Willie E. Barnes of Guntown; two sisters, John Ola Chambers of Guntown and Josie A. Chandler of Chicago; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Artist Barnes; and one brother, Willie L. Harrell.
Viewing will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the J.W. Porter Chapel. Family and friends hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Thursday.

Billy Gene Howard
SPRINGTOWN, Texas – Billy Gene Howard, 55, died suddenly Saturday, April 21, 2012, while being a Good Samaritan and trying to help an accident victim early Saturday morning. He was born June 18, 1956, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Matthew and Luella Wurtz Howard. He was an employee of Chaney Trucking for the last three years and had worked at Texas Lil’ Dude Ranch for 15 years.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White’s Funeral Home in Springtown, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Hughes Howard of Springtown, Texas; stepsons, Eric Hughes and Shelena Bishop of Springtown, and Tristan Farris and Aleigh of Saltillo; grandchild, Hayden Hughes; and brothers, Jimmy Dale and Bobby Joe Howard.
MICHIGAN CITY – Clarence D. Scott, 80, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hardaway M.B. Church in Michigan City. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery in Michigan City. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose from 1 to 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.
CORINTH – James “Jim” Walker, 78, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Corinthian Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
MENA, Ark. – Nellie “Dovie” Howard Stinson, 90, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Mena, Ark.

NEW ALBANY – Joe Dewey McDonald, 61, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his residence. He was born Jan. 16, 1951, in New Albany to William “Bill” McDonald and Dessie V. Foreman McDonald. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and mowing his grass.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Steve Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his former wife, Patricia McDonald of Myrtle; his daughter, Susan Perkins of Myrtle; three sons, Joseph Dewayne McDonald (Robin) of New Albany, Joe Dewey McDonald Jr. (Monica) of Myrtle and Mark Eugene Pickens (Tina) of Myrtle; a sister, Betty Sue McDonald Payne of New Albany; a brother, Danny Wayne McDonald (Kathy) of New Albany; and 11grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two grandchildren.

BYHALIA – Robert E. Sanderlin Jr., 52, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home in Byhalia.

AMORY – Brenda Cowley Mann, 68, died on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Amory, she was a daughter of Walta Mae Smith Wallace and the late Victor Brook Cowley Sr. She attended Smithville High School. On Nov. 24, 1983, she married Michael Mann. A former beauty salon owner, she retired from True Temper Sports. She was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Her life revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and pets. A wonderful and caring lady, she was a strong yet tenderhearted person. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, interior decorating, fishing and listening to Elvis Presley.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Musgrove officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael Mann of Amory; her mother, Walta Mae Wallace of Amory; daughters, Cindy Leech-Black (Scott) of Houston, Texas, and Suzette Taylor (Tim) of Nettleton; sons, Tim Leech (Carol) of Smithville, and Stan Mann of Nettleton; grandchildren, Tyler and Lindsey Leech of Smithville; Claudia, Jackson and Josh Taylor of Nettleton; John, Chelsea and Kayla Black of Houston, Texas; Mercedes Norman of Corinth, and Chelsi Stevens of Smithville; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Ava Black of Houston, Texas, and Everett Norman of Corinth; and niece, Vicky Cowley Reeder of Fulton.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Brook Cowley Jr., and a grandson, John Douglas Stevens

HOUSTON – Geneva “NeeNee” Neal Goza, 94, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Chickasaw County to William Neal and Candis Nabors Neal. She was the last surviving member of her large number of siblings. She was a retired sitter for many children in Houston.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with Dr. Randy Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Langley of Batesville; her son, Robert Lamar Goza (Linda) of Houston; her grandchildren, Robert L. “Bunky” Goza Jr. (Heather) of Amory, Benny Goza of Houston, Rhonda Fox (Jacky) of Batesville; and her great-grandchildren, Kami Goza and Blake Fox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert T. Goza; her grandson, Gary Langley; and a host of brothers and sisters.

IUKA – Betty Jo Ballard, 84, died Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Ludlam Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Burial will be in the Corinth National Cemetery.

ABERDEEN – Doris Nell Howell, 87, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Pioneer Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born Oct. 17, 1924, in Aberdeen to Ira Green Howell and Mae Moulder Howell. She was retired from the United States Army Missile Command at Red Stone Arsenal. She was a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of University of Montevallo in Alabama. She graduated from Aberdeen High School, where she was valedictorian for the class of 1942. Before retiring to Aberdeen, she worked in Newfoundland, worked at the Embassy in Egypt in 1955, moved to Rome and then worked in various locations in the United States. She was a member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Minister Charles Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Howell Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one sister, Ruby Howell Cole of Aberdeen; one niece, Lynn “Cissy” Howell Crump (Gene) of Aberdeen; three nephews, Glynn Howell of Aberdeen, Mark Howell (Sue) of Aberdeen, Jimmy Cole of LaCombe, La.; and one great-niece, Hannah Howell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bill Howell.
Pallbearers will be the deacons and elders of the church.

PONTOTOC – Lynda Irby, 67, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on Aug. 28, 1944, to Kreston L. and Mary L. Williams in Pontotoc County. She married William Irby on Oct. 16, 1961. She was a member of Toxish Baptist Church of Pontotoc. She was a loving mother and housewife.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Greg Herndon officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, William Irby; one daughter, Angie Westmoreland (Ricky); two sons, Leonard Wayne Irby and Lesley Irby, all of Pontotoc; and friend, Sharon Coleman of Mason, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Kayla Herdahl (Richard), Lesley D. Irby Jr. (fiancampée, Haley Morris), Zach Irby, Ricky Westmoreland Jr. (fiancampée, Lindsay Henry), Jeremy Westmoreland and Josh Westmoreland; two sisters, Joyce Bailey (Leland) and Wanda Wells (Dale); three brothers, Steve Williams (Pam), Donnie Williams (Cheryl) and Sammy Williams (Tina); and four great-grandchildren, all of Pontotoc.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary L. Williams; one infant son, William P. Irby; one sister, Ellen Sullivan; infant granddaughter, Abby Westmoreland.
Pallbearers will be Justin Wells, Chris Wells, Andy Ray Williams, Richard Herdahl, Adam Ray and Joseph Tutor. Honorary pallbearers will be Lucas Wells, Daniel Wells and Jamie Sullivan.
