TAYLOR – Maggie Ree Mitchell, 83, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at her residence in Taylor. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc.
CLARKSDALE – Sally J Goodson, 82, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at North West Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Hamilton. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point.
James Brantley Jr.
AMORY – James “Sugar Boy” Brantley Jr., 60, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at York, Ala. He was born on June 25, 1951, to James Brantley Sr. and Willie Nell Shumpert in Greensboro, Ala. He was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Amory. He was an employee of Newell Construction Company of Montgomery, Ala. He loved riding his motorcycle, enjoyed working on his cars, pickup trucks and guns. He was truly an outdoorsman and enjoyed his dogs.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lesley Mabry officiating. Burial will follow at the United Memorial Cemetery. Darden and Sons Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Marsha “Pargo” Brantley; one son, Pedro Pargo of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Jamie Brantley of Amory, Alwarna (Ray) Pasteur of Atlanta, Ga., Cora Michelle Brantley and Marilyn Jackson, both of Sawyerville, and Tameka Pargo of Rochester, N.Y.; four brothers, Nolan (Jaunita) Brantley of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Lovell (Mary) Brantley, Henry Jr. Brantley and Floyd (Mary) Brantley, all of Sawyerville; seven sisters, Rebecca (Charles) Adams of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara Gilbert, Betty (Allen) Bell, Cora (Aberham) Harris all of Sawyerville, Renona Brantley of Calif., Joyce and Von Brantley, both of Bessemer, Ala.; and nine grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by one sister, Drecilla Brantley; and one brother, Jonathan Brantley.
Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. and the body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service on Monday.
George Filgo Sr.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – George Alfred Filgo Sr., 82, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Memphis Veterans Hospital. He was a native of Lee County, 1948 graduate of Tupelo High School, a Methodist, U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran and retired trucking industry employee.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Germantown, Tenn. Internment will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his son, George Alfred Filgo Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and sister Helen Rial (Robert) of Dickson, Tenn.
Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday.

IUKA – Alpha L. Mosley, 78, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at her residence in Iuka.

SALTILLO – Patsy Sue Coggins, 60, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a retired factory employee and cashier. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a Baptist.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Kesler Funeral Home Chapel in Baldwyn with Bro. David Blaylock officiating. Burial will be in the Eggville Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Ashley Coggins Gilmore (Donnie Jr.) of Saltillo; one son, Allen Coggins (Megan) of Guntown; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Edward and Nina Bell Davis; her husband, William Harold Coggins; one son, Anthony Paul Coggins; and one grandchild: Brett Michael Coggins

RIPLEY – Vera Alline Welch Bridges, 85, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth. She was born July 24, 1926, in Tippah County to William Barne “Wigg” Welch and Bertie Moore Welch. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Services were Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Scott Falgout officiating. Burial was in Jacobs Chapel Cemetery in Ripley.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Waymon Eugene Bridges of Ripley; three daughters, Dixie Bumpus and Barbara Parks (John), both of Ripley, Wanda Anderson (John) of Katy, Texas; two granddaughters, Renae Hill (Randy) of Ripley and Chelsea Guess of Katy, Texas; one great-grandchild, Dylan Hill of Ripley; three sisters, Francis Jenne (Hank) of Augusta, Ga., Catherine Chapman of Memphis and Becky Murphy (Frankie) of Iuka; and one brother, Gene Welch (Deanne) of Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Billy Joe Bumpus; and one brother, Bondy Welch.
Pallbearers were Randy Hill, Dylan Hill, Stanley Chapman, Mike Jenne, Kevin Hatfield and Wade Scott.

CALEDONIA – Hortense Thompson Wakefield, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at her residence. She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Pontotoc to Marshall and Edna Coggans Thompson. She retired as an administrative assistant from the Pontotoc School System after her marriage to Clarence J. Wakefield and became a homemaker. She was a member of Border Springs Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years and was a primetimer. She enjoyed camping, sewing and knitting.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue W. Parker (Charles) of Caledonia and Wanda W. Kain (Bob) of Steens; sister, Marjorie T. Steward of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Robin Brown, Jason Yow, Andrew Brown, Jeremy Yow, Jonathan Brown, Gretchen Jones and Charlotte Douglas; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Caldwell; second husband, Clarence J. Wakefield; daughter, Gail W. Yow; and brother, Lankston Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Jason Yow, Jeremy Yow, Brian Jones, Bruce Erwin, Tommy Wiggins and Harold Wayne Partain. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Brown, Jonathan Brown, Kyle Steward, Stacy Steward, Robin Steward and Pete Reeder.

MRYTLE – Mary “Pat” Patricia Holbrook Moody, 79, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born August 25, 1932, in Marshall County to Edgar Franklin Holbrook and Mary Colston Holbrook. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Howell and Bro. Billy Lee Foley officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky Hancock (Jimmy) and Pam McClatchy (Chuck); three sons, Rodney Moody (Mary), Ricky Moody and Jimmy Moody; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Royce Lee Moody; and two brothers, Frank Holbrook Jr. and James Robert (Bud) Holbrook.
Pallbearers will be Ray Moody, Michael McClatchy, Jeff Hancock, Thad Moody, Damon Ligon and Terry Wade.

BALDWYN – Charles “Charlie” Noel Kent, 63, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in New Albany and spent most of his life residing in Baldwyn. He was a building contractor in the Baldwyn Area for many years. He was an avid crappie fisherman, fishing guide and loved to hunt quail and deer.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro Jimmy Whitaker officiating with Ray Looney and Tommy Boxx delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Kent of Baldwyn; sons, Ray Looney of Columbus and Tommy Boxx of Madison; sister, Charlotte Dillard of New Albany; and grandchildren, Alex Boxx, Walker Kent, Tyler Looney, Caroline Looney and Hannah Looney.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jimmie Louis Kent, Son; Charles Jason Kent.

ASHLAND – Mildred Annette Churchill Elliott, 60, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at her residence. She was born on Sept. 9, 1952, to Cleo and Gussie Jarrett Churchill in Union County. She was a retired teachers assistant for the Hickory Flat School System.
Service is at 2 p.m. Monday at McBride Funeral Home in Ripley with Bro. Verlon Moore officiating. Internment is at Bluff Springs in Ashland.
She is survived by her husband, W.T. Elliott of Ashland; one daughter, Melissa Bennett (Martin) of Ashland; one son, Justin Elliott (Julie) of Potts Camp; and three grandchildren, Emmaline Bennett, Connor Bennett and Tucker Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
