TUPELO – John Henry “BearBoon” Freeman died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Tupelo. He was the son of the late Chink Freeman Sr. and Loammer Beene Freeman, and the grandson of the late Alexander “Babe” Beene Jr. and Nancy Lee Buchanan Beene of Guntown. He joined Ebenezer M.B. Church at Guntown at an early age. He attended George Washington Carver High School in Tupelo, then served in the U.S. Navy for three years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitehill M.B. Church in Tupelo. Pastor Jeffery Daniels will officiate. Burial will be in Porter’s Memorial Cemetery. N.L. Jones and Son Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include nine children, Kanika Edwards, Candace Edwards, Ursala Hospkins, April (Frank) Walker and Loanesha Morris, all of Tupelo, Calandra (Marcus) Wheeler of Memphis, Sonja Brandon of Mason, Tenn., and Glekos (Valerie) Morris and Tyson Morris, both of Tupelo; his siblings, Lois (Charles) Stone of Verona, Martha Helen Wicks of Corinth, Onie B. Hill and Chink (Shirley) Freeman Jr., both of Plantersville, and Willie (Lola) Freeman and James Freeman, both of Tupelo; 18 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Eck and Georgia Shumpert Memorial Chapel at the N.L. Jones Funeral Home in Tupelo. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.

MATHISTON – Joe Pinnix, 87, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.

CORINTH – Randall Jack Jones, 54, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at his home.

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Josephine McKinney, 73, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Kansas City Hospice House. She was born Oct. 11, 1935, to Robert Cecil and Gertrude Yarbrough in Indianola. She was a longtime resident of Tupelo. She graduated from nursing school in Alabama and was a registered nurse for a number of years, leaving the profession to raise her family. She and her husband, John, enjoyed moving to be near their children and grandchildren, living in DeRidder, La., Charlottesville, Va., Houston, Texas, and Leavenworth, Kan., through the years. Her greatest joy was supporting her favorite ministries and spending time with her family.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Tupelo Memorial Park with the Rev. Gerald Gann officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, John McKinney; her son, John Robert “Bobby” McKinney and wife, Terre, of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Mary McKinney Ward and husband, Colonel David Ward, of Carlisle Barracks, Pa.; her brother, James “Yogi” Yarbrough and wife, Judy, of Brookhaven; four grandchildren, John Stewart and Brooks McKinney Casteneda, both of Houston, Texas, Catherine Ward Messer of Ramstein AFB, Germany, and Michelle Ward of Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ABERDEEN – Essie “Bro. Fort” Fort, 93, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Union M.B. Church. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, with a wake from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.
MYRTLE – Michelle Louise Foster Young, 35, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born June 2, 1974, in New Albany. She was the owner of the Value Village in Pontotoc and also worked as a waitress. She was a member of the Apostolic Revival Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Steve Denton officiating. Burial will be in the Cornersville Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Young and Christine Young, both of Myrtle; her parents, William Edward Foster and Ruby Joyce Riley Foster of Myrtle; and two brothers, William Foster of Myrtle and Jamie Foster of Pontotoc.
Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the funeral home.

FULTON – Sumpter T. Barnes, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Fayette, Ala., to John Thomas and Samatha Jane Hawkins Barnes. He was a farmer and a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde Mize officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Graham of Fulton, Margaret Madison (George) of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Mary Ellen Gray of Tupelo; one son, Garry Barnes (Linda) of Morris, Ala.; eight granddaughters, Teresa Stewart, Brenda Madison, Karen Golden, Lisa Wilburn, Camelia Barritt, Debra Chapin, Myra Welch and Sondra Postell; one grandson, Brian Gray; 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Barnes; a granddaughter, Kathy Cox; and eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Brian Gray, Joe Davis, Brandon Wilburn, Jeff Wilburn, Michael Graham, Christopher Chapin, Jonathan Leach and Cory Chapin.

Minnie Ola Pearson
BRUCE – Minnie Ola Pearson, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at her home. She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Calhoun County. She was a former employee of Kellwood and Glenn Slacks. She was a member of Antioch M.B. Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m.Thursday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. Windell Lancaster and the Rev. Tracy Griffin officiating. Burial will be in New Gauley Cemetery in Calhoun City.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Parker (Morris) of Bruce; two sons, Marvis Goodson (Betty) and Phillip Goodson, both of Calhoun City; one sister, Ruby Moore of Calhoun City; five grandchildren, two stepgrandsons, seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, E.W. Goodson and W. J. Pearson, and her parents, Joseph Savannah Keenum and Annie Bell Bennings Keenum.
Pallbearers will be Richard Winter, Mickey Hutchins, David Sutherland, Gilbert Denley, Mike Denley and Joe Cowsert.

Donald Colbert Sr.
FORREST – Donald E. Colbert Sr., 80, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Woodland Court in Newton. He was a graduate of Egypt High School and the University of Mississippi, where he received a BBA degree in 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Army intelligence. After serving his country, he returned home and was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company in Tupelo. He remained with Southern Bell as manager of the Tupelo office until 1965. He then entered into private enterprise. He retired as owner and operator of Fred’s Dollar Store in Morton in 1987. He loved the Lord and he will always be remembered for his passion in sharing the love of Christ with others.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at at Temple Baptist Church in Forest with the Rev. Chris Dupree officiating. A private interment will follow at Verona Cemetery in Verona. Ott amp& Lee Funeral Home of Forest is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Kathryn “Kitty” Colbert of Forest; two sons, Dr. Donald E. Colbert Jr. and wife, Mary, of Orlando, Fla., and Dan Michael Colbert of Jackson; one daughter, Kitzi Colbert Norman and husband, Gil, of Meridian; three grandchildren, Nick and Kennedy Norman of Meridian, and Kyle Colbert and wife, Meredith, of Orlando; one great-grandson, Braden Colbert of Orlando; his siblings, Neal Colbert of Buena Vista, Thomas Colbert of Flowood, Jean Miller of Tupelo and Ruby Lee Lancaster of Houston.
He was preceded in death by by his parents, Carl Lee and Marie Colbert; and a brother, Robert Colbert.

SENATOBIA – Gladys Mae Hensley Gitter, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia. She was a member of Crockett Church of Christ.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial will follow in Crockett Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Sadella Dickerson of Falkner; her sons, Lacey Gitter of Senatobia and Bobby Gitter of Batesville; her sister, Louise Moore of Senatobia; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Gitter; her sisters, Odell Hensley, Irene Hensley and Estelle Key; and her brothers, Grady, Raymond, Lee and J.T. Hensley and an infant at birth.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
