STARKVILLE – Stanley Erwin “Stan” Nabors, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville.

Nell Moffett
ABERDEEN – Nell Holloway Moffett, 90, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Darlington Oaks Community Hospice in Verona. She was born Nov. 23, 1918, to Davis Holloway and Jane Eastman Holloway in Monroe County. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a graduate of Becker School. She was a member of the Aberdeen First Baptist Church. She retired as a floor supervisor at SEminole Manufacturing and she was co-owner of DX Service Station.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Greenbriar Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James “Monk” Arnold Moffett; and six brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

George W. Peterson
VERONA – George W. Peterson, 79, formerly of Blue Mountain, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Community Hospice in Verona. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany.
Olera Waldrip
TUPELO – Olera Anderson Waldrip, 92, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the Simerson Green House at Traceway after an extended illness. A Lafayette County native, she was born Jan. 26, 1917, to Jessie and Martha Hyde Anderson. She was a 1936 graduate of Yocona High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Millington, Tenn., and WMU Ruth’s Circle, where she had made her home since 1951. She was the widow of Byron Waldrip, who preceded her in death April 11, 1982. She was retired from Walmart. She lived in Tupelo at Traceway for the past 10 years. A loving mother, a devoted wife and a dear sister, she enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and all other needlecrafts.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. David Langerfeld officiating. Burial will be in Laodicea Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Layfayette Springs.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Waldrip (Janie) of Tupelo and Rodney Waldrip (Barbara) of Holdrege, Neb.; her sister-in-law, Mary Waldrip Thompson; grandchildren, Suzy Simpson (Alex) of Brentwood, Tenn., and Chris Waldrip (Stacey) and Shona Waldrip, all of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Colin Waldrip and Owen Simpson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Doris Hill and Jessie Kate Mize; a brother, Alvis Anderson; and a granddaughter, Wendi Waldrip.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Howard F. Holt
TUPELO – Howard Franklin Holt, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A native of Crittenden County, Ark., he was born Dec. 10, 1935, to Peter Solomon and Ethel Capps Holt. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea following the Korean War. He was married 50 years to Joyce Holt, who died Oct. 20, 2006. He worked as a building contractor but farming and raising cattle were his passion. He was happiest on his John Deere tractor and when spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of Chesterville Baptist Church, where he served as a music director over 40 years and was chairman of the deacons.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Stanfield (David) of Belden; three sons, Ted Holt (Jerry) of Tupelo, Trent Holt (Jeannie) of Tupelo and Tim Holt (Carmen) of Woodstock, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, Kyle Crider, Tabitha Marlar (Chris), Bret Holt (Jessica), Tyler Holt (Lauren), Anna Coker (Paul), Brittany Stanfield, Caleb Holt, Amy Holt, Austin Stanfield, Nathan Holt, Jacob Holt, Hunter Stanfield, Joyce Holt and Grace Holt; one great-grandson, Brodie Holt; two sisters, Laverne Gadsby of Norfolk, Va., and Georgia Herndon of Millington, Tenn.; one brother, Bradley Holt of Bartlett, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, James, Warren and Harold Holt; and two sisters, Rose Nell Buckalew and Flossie Bishop.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

FALKNER – Doris Idell LaBarreare Butler, 93, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born April 25, 1916, to the late Eugene Lawrence LaBarreare and Mary Ida Floyd LaBarreare. She was a member of Falkner Baptist Church. She received her bachelor of science degree from Blue Mountain College and was a retired teacher with many years of service.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Falkner Baptist Church with Bro. Stanley Huddleston and Bro. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will be in Falkner Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosemary Butler Ward (Josh) of Blue Mountain; two sons, Walter Cleve Butler (Verna) of Middleton, Tenn., and George Wayne Butler (Dianne) of Ripley; nine grandchildren, Jonna Butler, Chester Butler, Kenneth Butler, Lisa Butler, Mark Ward (Libby), Melissa Ward Willingham (James), Shane Ward (Jessica), Georgiana Butler Brady (Tony), and Sarah Butler Hall (Jon); and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cleve Butler; and her parents, four sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers will be Mark Ward, Shane Ward, James Willingham, Chester Butler, Kenneth Butler, Jon Hall and Tony Brady.

GOLDEN – Laverne Taylor Pharr, 77, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1932, in Itawamba County to Dewey Lexter and Edna Tallant Taylor. She was retired from Golden Manufacturing. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Bro. David Kelley and Bro. James Herman Gray officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery in Golden.
Survivors are her husband of 57 years, Herbert G. Pharr of Golden; three sons, Herbert Dean Pharr and Dennis Gene Pharr, both of Golden, and Dale Lesley Pharr (Sandra) of Belmont; four sisters, Edath McDowell of Sherman, Nadine Waddle of Fulton, and Betty Lindsey and Cathy McAlister, both of Golden; three brothers, Paul Taylor of Liberty, Leland Taylor of Sherman and Troyce James Taylor of Golden; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson and a daughter-in-law.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jerry Lindsey, Terry Lindsey, Darrell Mitchell, Dudley Waddle, James McDowell and Jimmy McDowell. Honorary pallbearers will be David Mitchell and Derek Pharr.

CHICAGO – Noy Henderson, 93, formerly of Oxford, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Ridgeview Nursing and Rehab in Chicago. He was born March 29, 1916, in Oxford to Rufus and Bianne Henderson.

TUPELO – Vera A. Lewis, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She enjoyed cooking, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Helen Gilmore of Tupelo and Patricia Lyn Pitts of Baldwyn; two sons, L.C. Lewis of Fulton and Tommy Lewis of Pontotoc; one brother, Dan Seaton of Savannah, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow E. Lewis; a son, Woodrow Lewis Jr.; three daughters, Dorothy Rowland, Linda Beam and Virginia Rowland; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and four brothers and three sisters.
