Roy Gentry
PONTOTOC – Roy Nelson Gentry, 92, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Sunshine Health Care in Pontotoc after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 16, 1917, to Willie and Clara (Dillard) Gentry in Pontotoc County. He was married on June 1, 1942, to Louise Munn, his wife of 68 years, who passed away in May 2009. He was a devoted husband and grandfather. He was a man who loved the outdoors and shooting his gun. Being a World War II veteran, he was a storyteller who enjoyed sharing his war stories with family and friends years after proudly serving his country.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. in the Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Melvin Crawley officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Cemetery.
Mr. Gentry is survived by his son, Eddie Gentry of Pontotoc; a brother, Homer Gentry (Roberta) of Pontotoc; two sisters, Geneva Brott of Pontotoc and Erlene Litchfield of Texas; and three grandchildren, Erik, Austin and Alek Gentry, all of Pontotoc.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother, Troy Gentry; and one sister, Mildred Litton.
Pallbearers will be Jim Jumper, Beau Jumper, Mike Blizzard, Mike Griffin, Eddie Summers and David Litton.
Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. until service time.

Gertrude Leech
SMITHVILLE – Gertrude Cruber Leech, 91, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1909, in Saltillo to William Henry and Edna Jackson Cruber. She married Eugene “Pete” Leech in 1936; he died in 1967. She worked for Amory Garment Co. for 43 years and retired as Assistant Plant Manager for Monroe Trousers in Smithville. She was a member of the Smithville Methodist Church where she was active in The Mayflower Group. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sporting events on television. An expert seamstress, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and baking. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A woman of strength, courage, determination and independence, she was fun-loving, humorous, patient, kind and hard working, and employed a giving spirit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Smithville with Bro. Charles Coggins and Bro. Wes White officiating. Penny Leech Freed will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Billy Eugene Leech (Joyce Willene Stevens) of Amory; one sister, Jewell Cruber Johnson of Aberdeen; three grandchildren, Leigh Ann Leech Campbell (Chris), Bill Leech Jr. and Penny Leech Freed (Mike); and two great-grandchildren, Emory Freed and Loudon Freed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Carson, Garvin, Bobby and J.T. Cruber; one sister, Betty J. Cruber; and her mother-in-law, Viola Leech Summerford.
Pallbearers will be Brad Stevens, Jerry Lee Frederick, Pat Leech, Jim Leech, Jon Leech and Kenny Cox.
Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.

Faye Tilson
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Faye Smith Tilson, 69, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, Va. She was born in Saltville, Va., on Feb. 10, 1940, to the late Mary Clarice and William Alfred Smith. She was a graduate of Radford University. She taught high school in Radford, Va., and Tupelo. She loved to travel and enjoyed playing bridge, entertaining friends and family as well as throwing parties. Playing with her grandchildren was a special love for her.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Tilson Jr.; two daughters, Lee Tilson Strand and husband, Mike, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Sarah Tilson-Miano and husband, Marc, of Radford; a son, Charles E. “Trey” Tilson III and wife, Shane, of Lexington, Va.; a sister, Kay Brown and fiance, Jody Chapman, of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Jim Smith and wife, Pam, of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cathy and Ed Comer of Harrisonburg, Va.; and four grandchildren, Joey and Chris Strand and Calvin and Olivia Tilson.
Memorial services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Preston Ore Sartele officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UVA Transplant Services-Lung, P.O. Box 800265, Charlottesville VA 22908 (please include Mrs. Tilson’s name in the memo).
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today, as well as immediately following the service at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive in Blacksburg.

BOONEVILLE – Benjamin I. “Jack” Hall, 72, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tuscumbia Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Tuscumbia Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation was from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 1 p.m. today.

Noah Jordan
JACKSON, Tenn. – Noah Tanner Taylor Jordan, newborn son of Brent and Jill Parks Jordan, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his sister, Chanda Cyan Jordan.
Graveside funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, Tenn., with the Rev. Eddie Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. before the service at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Noah is survived by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Zack and Erin Christian of Jackson, and Chaia and Skyler Jordan of Pontotoc; and grandparents, Jerry and Charlene Jordan of Tupelo, and Mary Alice Williams and Dickie and Joanne Parks, all of Brownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.

Corine Nix
CORINTH – Margaret Corine James Frederick Nix, 78, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at U.T. Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Corinth. Burial will be at Spring Hill Methodist Church Cemetery-Midway in Iuka.

CORINTH – Carrol Gilmore died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Monday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth. Burial will be in Lone Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ginny Hatcher
RIPLEY – Alice Virginia “Ginny” Hatcher, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at her residence in Ripley. She was born March 20, 1931, to the late Pearl Hatcher and Willie Jones Hatcher. She was a member of New Harmony Methodist Church. She was a retired LPN from Tippah County Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include two nieces, Janie Hopper and Becky Hatcher, both of Millington, Tenn.; two nephews, Jerry Hatcher of Millington and Edwin Pannell of Memphis; and a host of great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be today from 5-8 at Ripley Funeral Home.

Thomas Littlejohn
SALTILLO – Thomas Wayne Littlejohn, 85, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at his residence in the Birmingham Ridge Community after a brief illness. He was a graduate of Sherman High School and a 1949 graduate of Southern Methodist University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner, and was recently self-employed in the hydraulics business.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in the McNeil Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mavis Bruce Littlejohn of Saltillo; his children, Alan Littlejohn (Barbara) of Nipome, Calif., Louan Elliott (Chris) of Royce City, Texas, and Johnny Bruce (Nancy) of Saltillo; one daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Bruce of Shannon; one sister, Mary Sue Warren of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Thomas Ray Elliott, Angela Elliott, Leslie Bruce Monaghan (Dan), Amy Bruce Hogan (Chris), Katie Bruce Stuart (Drew), Jacob Bruce (Michelle), Casey Bruce (Carne), Johnny Bruce and fiance, Amy; and his great-grandchildren, Ben and Drew Monaghan, Riley, Bailey, Brady and Leah, Kate Bruce and Heath Hogan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Monette; one son, Ralph Wade Bruce; one daughter, Juanita Bruce Griffin; and four brothers, Grady, Erman, Harold and Carey Littlejohn.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Ray Elliott, Jacob Bruce, Casey Bruce, Dan Monaghan and Drew Stuart.
Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 at the funeral home.
