FULTON – M.C. Clemons, 96, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. A retired employee of the City of Fulton, he loved gardening and sharing what he produced with family and friends. He loved playing his harmonica and his guitar. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on Dec. 13, 1945.
Services will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Fulton with the Rev. Charles Berry officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Shilo Cemetery in Fulton under the direction of Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Oddie Mae Clemons; three children, Gloria Clark and her husband, George, of Smithville, Mack Clemons and his wife, Betty, of Fulton, and Roger Clemons and his wife, Paulette, of Flint, Mich.; two brothers, O.B. Clemons of Arkansas and Ostrich Clemons of Flint; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends; and the community in which he lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Clemons and Georgie McDonald Clemons; eight brothers; nine sisters; and one grandson.
Pallbearers will be Sgt. Alex Clark, Master Sgt. Stephven Clemons, Hayward Lee Wilson, Willie Holley, Tony Clark and Rogers McKinney.
Honorary pallbearers will be O.B. Clemons, Ostrich Clemons, William Milner and Johnnie Young.
Visitation will be today from 3-6 p.m. at the J. W. Porter Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

BURNSVILLE – Lavonne Phifer, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at her residence. She was a member of New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. She loved cooking great meals for her family and friends, and enjoyed embroidering.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Whitley officiating. Burial will be in New Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Lera McAnally.
Survivors include her husband, M.B. Phifer of Burnsville; two sons, Wayland Phifer (Shelia) of Iuka and Wendell Phifer (Kasey) of Cairo, Miss.; one sister, Glenda Wright (Jimmy) of Cairo; three grandchildren, Kimberly Phifer Cox (Bill), Kayla Phifer and Riley Phifer; three great-grandchildren, Dallas Strickland, Olivia Strickland and Lincoln Cox; and two nephews, Steve Wright (Leanne) and Tony Wright (Natalie).

James E. Lewis
FULTON – James E. Lewis, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Northeast Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Itawamba County to Floyd and Tula Adams Lewis. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and Fairview Masonic Lodge #457. He retired from Day-Brite Lighting where he worked in maintenance. He was a U.S. veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict as a military policeman in the Panama Canal Zone from 1953-1955. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Martin Jameson and Bro. Tracy McMillen officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Johnson Lewis; two daughters, Janet Graham (Johnny) and Lori Gray (Jeff), both of Fulton; one son, Jim Lewis (Chris) of Fulton; his grandchildren, John Graham (Brandy), Amber Ramirez (Luis), Josh Graham, Matt Lewis, Blake Thompson (Ryan), Alisha Kent (Nicky) and Ceburn Gray; his great-grandchildren, to whom he was Pawnanas, Hope, Braden, Kylee, Megan, Graham and Jaylee; one sister, Gola Wayne Earnest of Tupelo; a host of nieces and nephews; and his special friend, his pet dog Otis.
Pallbearers will be Billy Trotter, Bill Howell, Chip Prestage, Macky Nichols, Jerry Summers, Doyle Johnson, Huey Johnson and Glenn Reeder. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Faith Keepers Sunday school class.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Eunie Lewis; a great-grandson, Grayson Wiygul Kent; a brother-in-law, Lee Earnest; a sister, Nellie Fern Lewis; a stepbrother, Nick Jarrell; a nephew, Michael Dees; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ethel and Mannie Johnson.
Visitation will be today from 4:30-8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

OXFORD – Emily Jeanette Sealy, 73, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

HICKORY FLAT – George Grisham, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at his home. He was a veteran of the Korean War and World War II. He was a retired tow boat engineer for England Towing.
Graveside services will be today at 3 p.m. at the Church of Christ Cemetery in New Albany with Bro. Jerry Merritt officiating. Glenfield Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Grisham is survived by two sons, George Randel Grisham of Mobile, Ala., and Donald L. Grisham of Myrtle; three daughters, Carol Kitty, Cindy Kirk and Gail Dickerson, all of Myrtle; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Norma Sue Harris
BELMONT – Norma Sue Harris, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Baptist Hospital in Booneville. She was born Aug. 4, 1935, in Itawamba County to H.A. and Jewel Williams Grissom. She worked as a seamstress for 30 years.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with Bro. Gene Cooley officiating. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Debra Childers (Jeffrey) of Savannah, Tenn., and Sherri Barnett (Allen) of Lake Cormorant; one son, Jason Harris (Shelia) of Belmont; one stepdaughter, Sylvia Harris of Fairview; two sisters, Nedra Daws of Gainesville, Ga., and Wanda Hamm (Tilmon) of Red Bay; five grandchildren, Robin Deatherage (Gary), Eric Massey (Amy), Jeffrey Childers II (Patricia), Ethan Harris and Emily Harris; three great-grandchildren, Carter Deatherage, Kevin Childers and Isaiah-Reese Deatherage; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, June Harris; one infant sister, Doris Jean Grissom; one great-granddaughter, Presley Nannette Miller; one stepson; and two stepdaughters.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay, and until service time on Wednesday.
Steven Mack Hailey
MT. PLEASANT – Steven Mack Hailey, 57, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Collierville Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn.
He was born May 3, 1952, in Quitman County to Forney Edward Hailey and Evie Gray Hailey. He was a member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church and was a truck driver for Cordova Concrete in Cordova, Tenn.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rice Chapel Cemetery in Lamar.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Tee Hailey; a son, Steven Hailey of Tupelo; two daughters, Stephenie Morgan of Brighton, Tenn., and Melissa Hailey of Ashland; four brothers, M.D. Hailey of Slayden, Bill Hailey and Ray Hailey, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Randy Hailey of Southaven; four sisters, Edna Seals of Victoria, Frances Sweden of Ashland, Martha Paradise of Somerville, and Dorothy Hardin of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
SALTILLO – Thomas Wayne Littlejohn, 85, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at his residence in the Birmingham Ridge Community after a brief illness.
He was a graduate of Sherman High School and a 1949 graduate of Southern Methodist University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner, and was recently self-employed in the hydraulics business. He was an avid fisherman.
Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in the McNeil Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mavis Bruce Littlejohn of Saltillo; his children, Alan Littlejohn (Barbara) of Nipome, Calif., Lou Anne Elliott (Chris) of Royce City, Texas, and Johnny Bruce (Nancy) of Saltillo; one daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Bruce of Shannon; one sister, Mary Sue Warren of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Thomas Ray Elliott, Angela Elliott, Leslie Bruce Monaghan (Dan), Amy Bruce Hogan (Chris), Katie Bruce Stuart (Drew), Jacob Bruce (Michelle), Casey Bruce (Carrie), Johnny Bruce and fiance, Amy; and his great-grandchildren, Ben and Drew Monaghan, Riley, Bailey, Brady and Leah Kate Bruce, and Heath Hogan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Monette; one son, Ralph Wade Bruce; one daughter, Juanita Bruce Griffin; and four brothers, Grady, Erman, Harold and Carey Littlejohn.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Ray Elliott, Jacob Bruce, Casey Bruce, Johnny Bruce, Dan Monaghan and Drew Stuart.
Visitation was Sunday night at the funeral home.

OKOLONA – Alice Laverne Williams McCary, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Floy Dyer Care Center in Houston.
Mrs. McCary was born in Aberdeen on April 22, 1928, to the late Luther M. and Ruby Sanders Williams and lived most of her life in the Okolona area. She married J.B. McCary on Jan. 22, 1947, and he died May 30, 2007, after 60 years of marriage.
Mrs. McCary grew up in the Methodist faith and was a member of Faith Outreach Church at her death. She worked many years as a school bus driver for the Okolona Public Schools and in the cafeteria at Okolona Elementary School. A master saleslady, conversationalist and entrepreneur, she was a collector of novelties, an artist and enjoyed writing poetry. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a lover of dogs, especially Sissy, Sammy, Molly, Missy, Fruit Loop and Joey, her beloved dogs. She will be sorely missed by a grateful family and community.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her pastor, Bro. Jimmy Bryan, officiating and Bro. Jonathan Childress assisting. Burial will follow in East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 today and from noon until service time on Tuesday at the Okolona Chapel, 300 W. Main St., Okolona.
Survivors include her four children, Mark McCary (Lisa) of Houston, Barbara Lanton (Alan) of Gulf Breeze, Ala., Donna Rose Holladay of Okolona and Ruby Danforth (Darryl) of Okolona; nine grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Mamaw,” Kelly, Tim, Lucas, Jamie, Justin, Ronnie, Rachel, Dustin and Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Sue Carlisle of Okolona and Valerie Reifers (Tommy) of Greenwood; two brothers, Luther M. “Son” Williams Jr. (Jenny) of Okolona and the Rev. Ron Williams (Betty) of Aberdeen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Angela Williams; a brother-in-law, Buck Carlisle; a niece, Nan Christian; and a nephew, Chuck Carlisle.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hindman, Darryl Danforth, Jamie Eubank, Justin Holladay, Alan Lanton and Nicholas McCary.

Eula Mae Stidham
BELMONT – Eula Mae Stidham, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at her residence. She was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Dennis, Miss., to Hafford and Dora Hill Pardue. She was a homemaker and was a member of Liberty Church of Christ.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Church of Christ with Bro. Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Gardens. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two sons, Larry W. Martin of Burnsville and David L. Martin of Starkville; three grandchildren, Michael Martin of Belmont, and Clint Martin and Courtney Brien (Andy) all of Jackson, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Alex Martin of Belmont and Ella Kate Brien of Jackson; five sisters, Maudie Adams of Florence, Ala., Mamie McNutt of Belmont, Altie Calley of Dennis, and Parthine Rosser and Maurine Hall, both of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother, Dupree Pardue of Dennis; and her caregivers, Ruth Glasco and Heart to Heart Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Howard Stidham and J.R. Martin; and four brothers, Chess Pardue, P.T. Pardue, Sherman Pardue and Walter Pardue.
Pallbearers will be Clint Martin, Jeff Martin, Griff Griffin, Andy Brien, Alex Martin and Robert Cashion.
