SOUTHAVEN – Mary Kay Whaley Garrison, 68, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at her home in Southaven. She was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Bethlehem to Ware Whaley and Ell Rhea Cook. She was a Methodist and an operator for AT&T.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

FLINT, Mich. – Deacon Oddie M. Robinson, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Foss Avenue Baptist Church in Flint, Mich. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home in Flint is in charge of the arrangements.

James E. Lewis
FULTON – James Edward Lewis, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Northeast Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Itawamba County to Floyd and Tula Adams Lewis. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and Fairview Masonic Lodge 457. He retired from Day-Brite Lighting, where he worked in maintenance. He was a U.S. veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict as a military policeman in the Panama Canal Zone from 1953-1955. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved his dog, Otis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Martin Jameson and Bro. Tracy McMillen officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Johnson Lewis; two daughters, Janet Graham (Johnny) and Lori Gray (Jeff), both of Fulton; one son, Jim Lewis (Chris) of Fulton; his grandchildren, John Graham (Brandy), Amber Ramirez (Luis), Josh Graham, Matt Lewis, Blake Thompson (Ryan), Alisha Kent (Nicky) and Ceburn Gray; his great-grandchildren, to whom he was “Pawnanas,” Hope, Braden, Kylee, Megan, Graham and Jaycee; one sister, Gola Wayne Earnest of Tupelo; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Eunie Lewis; a great-grandson, Grayson Wiygul Kent; a brother-in-law, Lee Earnest; a sister, Nellie Fern Lewis; a stepbrother, Nick Jarrell; a nephew, Michael Dees; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ethel and Mannie Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Jon Tatum, Billy Trotter, Bill Howell, Chip Prestage, Macky Nichols, Jerry Summers, Doyle Johnson, Huey Johnson and Glenn Reeder. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Faith Keepers Sunday school class.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time today.

FULTON – John H. “Rocky” Westcott, 73, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Senter Funeral Home of Fulton.
PONTOTOC – Dora Retha Ruple, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at her home. She was born July 18, 1925, in Covington, Tenn., to Coral E. and Nancy Ann Wilson Pittman. She was the widow of Samuel Box, who died in 1977. She then married Bill Ruple; he later died. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. She enjoyed cross-stitching, playing on the computer, eating out and NASCAR.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Tim McMillan and Bro. Robert White officiating. Burial will be in the Keyes Cemetery.
Survivors include five sons, Horace Box (Julia) of Manilla, Ark., Calvin Box (Paula) of Amory, Elmer Box (Pam) of Belmont, Donald Box (Patricia) of Amory and Gary Box (Brandy) of Columbus; four daughters, Doris Dean of Pontotoc, Patty Brush (Jimmy) of Tupelo, Joyce Itzen (Ronnie) of Wing, Ala., and Melba Cox of Fulton; 34 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren; and two nephews and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, four daughters, five sons, two granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be Jody Box, Brandon Gray, Toby Gray, Michael Gray, Randall Hester and D.J. Hester. Honorary pallbearers will be Cory Box, Justin Fletcher, Trent Long and Tracy Gillespie.

FULTON – Sarah Pauline “Polly” Klaesen, 65, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the North Mississippi medical Center after a short illness. She was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Rome, Ga., to Samuel Newton and Bessie Pauline Touchstone Youngblood. She traveled to various places with the amusement park industry in her early years. She later worked at Itawamba Manufactoruing Co. and cooked in various restaurants. She loved to cook and she enjoyed playing bingo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phil Benton officiating. Burial will be in the Tilden Community Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Maria Klaesen of Valley, Ala.; one daughter-in-law, Lynn Klaesen of Fulton; one stepson, Rudy Junior Klaesen of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two brothers, J. Max Youngblood of Birmingham, Ala., and Samuel Newton Youngblood Jr. of Guin, Ala.; one sister, Patsy Ann Gann of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Klaesen, Mikayla Klaesen, Marty Klaesen, Bubba, Dalton, Hayden, Jackie and Sharron; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Klaesen; a brother, Guy Youngblood; and her parents.

MATHISTON – Lorene W. Breland, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at her home in Mathiston.

GALLOWAY, Tenn. – Vessie Helen Herring, 80, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was born July 22, 1929, in Marks to Pinkey Harrison and Rena Allen Holley. She was a retired waitress.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with the Rev. Charles Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Old Glenfield Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Jones of Lakeland, Fla.; one son, Billy Harville of New Albany; and six grandchildren.

MEMPHIS – Naomi Brantley Littrell, 87, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was born May 8, 1922, in Wyatt to Carey Freeman and Christine Hunt. She was a Baptist and a legal secretary.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bellvue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn. Graveside service and burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Littrell of Memphis; three nieces, Carey Brisendine, Marie Strain (Lee) and Barbara Helton (Raymond); one nephew, Eddie Freeman (Jeanna); two stepsons, Vince Littrell and Krieg Littrell; a sister-in-law, Aileen Freeman; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

CORINTH – Charles R. Smith, 76, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at his home. He was born March 7, 1933, to Robert and Corinna Smith. He retired as area manager for Mississippi.State Employment Security Commission from 1965 to 1995. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1950, and received a bachelor of science degree in 1959 and his M.Ed. in 1963. He was a teacher at Farmington High School in 1959-1960 and principal at Farmington Elementary School from 1961-1965. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and he loved cars, boats, music, his family and “Kendrick Ridge.”
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers G.W. Childs and Ferrell Hester officiating. Burial will be in Fraley Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bullard Smith of Corinth; sons, Gregory Smith and wife, Joyce, of Corinth, Timothy Smith and wife, Deborah, of St. Louis, Mo., and Jonathan Smith and wife, Sherri, of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Norita Page of Corinth; grandchildren, Caige Smith, Caleb Smith, Chance Smith, Jon Paul Smith, Taylor Smith and Tyler Smith.

RED BAY, Ala. – Robert Houston McKinney, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at his residence. He was born May 7, 1937, in Alabama to Thurman and Gates Davidson McKinney. He was a driver for Tiffin Motor Homes for 10 years.

CALHOUN CITY – Ruby K. Moore, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Calhoun City. She was a former employee of Grenada Hosiery Mill, working as an inspector for 20 years. She also was a former employee of Ben Franklin. She was a member of New Gauley Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking and giving back to the community.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Burial will be in New Gauley Cemetery in Calhoun City.
Survivors include one niece, Pat Parker of Bruce; two nephews, Marvis Goodson and Phillip Goodson, both of Calhoun City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Moore; her parents, Joseph Savannah Keenum and Annie Bell Bennings Keenum; and two sisters, Annie V. Murphree and Minnie O. Pearson.

GATTMAN – Earlie “Jay” Junior Noe, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at his home.

OKOLONA – Alice Laverne Williams McCary, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Floy Dyer Care Center in Houston. She was born in Aberdeen on April 22, 1928, to the late Luther M. and Ruby Sanders Williams and lived most of her life in the Okolona area. She married J.B. McCary on Jan. 22, 1947, and he died May 30, 2007, after 60 years of marriage. She grew up in the Methodist faith and was a member of Faith Outreach Church at her death. She worked many years as a school bus driver for the Okolona Public Schools and in the cafeteria at Okolona Elementary School. A master saleslady, conversationalist and entrepreneur, she was a collector of novelties, an artist and enjoyed writing poetry. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a lover of dogs, especially Sissy, Sammy, Molly, Missy, Fruit Loop and Joey, her beloved dogs. She will be sorely missed by a grateful family and community.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today from the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her pastor, Bro. Jimmy Bryan, officiating and Bro. Jonathan Childress assisting. Burial will follow in East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the Okolona Chapel.
Survivors include her four children, Mark McCary (Lisa) of Houston, Barbara Lanton (Alan) of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Donna Rose Holladay of Okolona and Ruby Danforth (Darryl) of Okolona; nine grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Mamaw,” Kelly, Tim, Lucas, Jamie, Justin, Ronnie, Rachel, Dustin and Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Sue Carlisle of Okolona and Valerie Reifers (Tommy) of Greenwood; two brothers, Luther M. “Son” Williams Jr. (Jenny) of Okolona and the Rev. Ron Williams (Betty) of Aberdeen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Angela Williams; a brother-in-law, Buck Carlisle; a niece, Nan Christian; and a nephew, Chuck Carlisle.
