OXFORD – Thomas Roland “Tom” Hurdle, 70, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Born in Oxford, he grew up in the Taylor community. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. A retired banker, he was an associate with Guest Realty and well-known in the real estate community. He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Oxford. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he was a member of Kairos Prison Ministry and a board member of Branch of Hope. He also had done mission work in Honduras through the Rotary Club. He loved his family, and he especially took pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, Aug. 26, at Taylor Baptist Church in Taylor with the Rev. Curt Presley officiating. Interment will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Shaw Hurdle of Oxford; one son, Eric Taylor (Michele Lea Dawson) Hurdle of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Missy Hurdle (Chad) Fooshee of Birmingham, Ala.; his mother, Annie Lee Hurdle of Oxford; two sisters, Margaret Laney and Donna Falkner, both of Oxford; one brother, Bobby Shannon Hurdle of Oxford; and three grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Fooshee, Emma Catherine Fooshee, and Mary Elizabeth “Ellie” Fooshee, all of Birmingham, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Albert Hurdle.

AMORY – Vincent Lee Hester, 40, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Care Center of Aberdeen. Born May 22, 1973, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of Harlon Lee and Dorothy Wildman Hester. A graduate of Amory High School in 1991, he was a member of the band and attended Itawamba Community College, receiving a degree in civil engineering in 1995. He worked for Continental Engineering in Aberdeen and later operated his own business in Tupelo until 2009 when his health failed. He attended Cason Baptist Church, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends, traveling, running his business and playing with his dog, Benji. An avid Boston Celtics fan, he enjoyed sports. He was known as a loving and caring son.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. today, Aug. 26, 2013, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Shane Crawford and Bro. John Maxey officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Harlon and Dorothy Hester of Amory; uncle, Billy Wildman (Harriet) of Nettleton; and aunt, Marie Wildman of Nettleton.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Garland and Estelle Hester, Tomas and Lille Mae Wildman Reynolds and William Chuck Wildman; and cousins, Ricky Wildman and Billie Jo Wildman.
Pallbearers will be Larry Todd, Joshua Scruggs, Brad Clayton, James Rollins, Jordan Stanford, Larry Maxey, Gary Ryans, David Walls, Rob Whitehead and Steve Grissom.

CALHOUN CITY – Martha Nell Christian, 83, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Born in Calhoun City, she was the daughter of Joseph Rex Christian and Joyce Ivy Christian. She was a retired trimming inspector for Kellwood, and she attended Calhoun City First Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, Aug. 26, at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. Jimmy Vance and the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun City Cemetery. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one brother, Jerry Rex Christian of Calhoun City; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

OXFORD – Genendle Walker Parker, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Born in Lafayette Springs, she was the widow of Mr. Jesse Parker Jr. She attended both Cambridge United Methodist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed socializing with her family as well as her church family. Her hobbies included writing poems, solving crossword puzzles and singing gospel music.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Peterman officiating. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Malone of Richardson, Texas; and her brother, Kenneth Walker of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph “Jody” Walker and Lillie Potts Walker; her sister, Wilma Quay “Peggy” Vines; and two brothers, Dean Walker and Jimmie Walker.

RANDOLPH – Mary Elizabeth Garrison, 72, went to be with the lord Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at her home. A native of Earle, Ark., she was born July 26, 1941, to Allison and Lorea Woodham Lunsford. She married Troy Liddell Garrison Oct. 2, 1959, and had five sons. She was a homemaker and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She loved collecting antiques.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Guinn Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Troy Garrison; sons, Roger Garrison (Denise) of Potts Camp, Randy Garrison, Ryan Garrison (Bobbie) and Rodney Garrison (Cheryl), all of Randolph; one daughter-in-law, Lori Garrison; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ken Nowlin, Larry Nowlin, both of Friendship, and Danny Lunsford and Johnny Lunsford, both of Arkansas; and two sisters, Deb Yates and Jude Lunsford, both of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Rick Garrison.
