Opal Moss
HOULKA – Opal Ethelene Moss, 92, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Pontotoc Hospital. She was a member of Cooke Memorial Church. She was a wife, mother, housewife and store owner. She enjoyed flowers, quilting and cooking.
Service is at 5 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Chapel with Tommy Inmon officiating. Internment is at Cooke Cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Ethelene (L.D.) Cowsert, Kathelene Purdon, Charles (Wilma) Moss, Ray (Shirley) Moss and Johnny (Kathy) Moss; four nieces; one nephew; four sister-in-laws; two brother-in-laws; 19 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Moss; daughter, Joyce Fay Moss; Timmy Moss; mother, Susie Law; brothers, Claiborne Smith and Curt Law; and sister, Ida Mae Bottorff.
Pallbearers are Ken Moss, Mike Moss, Jonathan Moss, Gary Purdon, Carl Purdon and Daniel Purdon. Honorary pallbearer is Lee Moss.
Visitation is noon to 5 p.m. today.
Jessie Hill
FULTON – Jessie Hill, 70, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born March 24, 1942, in New Albany to Alfred W. and Lola B. Sanford Hill. He was a retired employee from Day-Brite Lighting. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved being with his family and friends and was an avid auction enthusiast. He was a happy, content and kind-hearted person who was a blessing to those who loved and knew him.
Service is at 11 a.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Shappley officiating. Internment is at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in New Albany.
He is survived by daughters, Tina Hill Monday (Scott) of Plainfield, Ill., and Sarah Hill of Aurora, Ill.; son, Justin Hill of Aurora, Ill.; brother, Malcolm Hill (Gwen) of New Albany; long time friend and caregiver, Nellie Reeves; sister-in-law, Agnes Hill of New Albany; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, R.K. and Wilburn “Al” Hill; and sisters, Addie Jarvis and Margie Hill.
Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Huddle House in Fulton.
Visitation is 7 a.m. until service time today.

Aline Locke
NEW ALBANY – Minnie Aline Robertson Locke, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at her residence in New Albany. She was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Myrtle to William Lee Robertson and Etoile Eugenia Smith Robertson. She was a retired employee of Futorian Manufactoring as a credit analyst. She was a member of the College Hill Presbyterian Church in Oxford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Earl McAnally officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park in New Albany.
She is survived by three sisters, Doris Robertson of Memphis, Tenn., Helen Arnold and Pat Maxey, both of New Albany; and a brother, Hugh Robertson of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Locke; a sister, Thelma Tucker; and three brothers, Roy Robertson, Ernest Robertson and Bobby Robertson.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Annie Oliver
OXFORD – Annie Floyd Coleman Oliver, 59, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at her residence in Oxford. A native of Oxford, she was the daughter of Floyd Coleman Sr. and Lura B. Manning Coleman. She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church. She was a cook for Kappa Delta Sorority on the campus of the University of Mississippi where she was the kitchen manager for 25 years. She loved to cook, watch TV and taking care of her brother, Floyd, and his kids.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building with the Rev. Eric Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one sister; Joann Carothers of Oxford; two brothers, Floyd Coleman Jr. of Oxford and Thornton Green Of Chicago, Ill.; and a special nephew, Damian Coleman of Southaven.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Joycelyn Scott
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Joycelyn A.R.A. Scott, 50, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn. She was born March 14, 1962, in Lee County, Ark., to Robert L. Anderson Jr. and Lois Geneva Robertson Anderson. She was a member of Temple of Compassion and Deliverance of Tupelo.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Temple of Compassion and Deliverance with Pastor Spencer Scott officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Cemetery in Marianna, Ark. Agnew and Sons Funeral of Verona is in charge of arrangement. Hightower Funeral Home of Marianna, Ark., will be in charge of the Committial Services.
Survivors include father of her children, Pastor Spencer L. Scott of Tupelo; four daughters, Rekeya (Ericke) Dilworth of Plantersville, Tarsha Scott, Shera Scott and Aquilla (Jason) Dilworth, all of Tupelo; one son, Joshua Scott of Tupelo; one sister, Marianna Anderson of Lewisville, Texas; one brother, Elo Jerome Anderson of Cotton Plant, Ark.; one aunt, Aquilla Ramsey of Milwaukee, Wis.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert L. Anderson lll; her grandparents; and one uncle, Comajor Roberts.

Mary Sims
AMORY – Mary Sims, 81, died Aug. 2, 2012, at Golden Living Center. She was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Monroe County, to Joseph and Mentte Green. A life long resident of Monroe County, she was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker for many in the community. She attended Wilson School and completed high school in the state of Oklahoma. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and loved vacationing in the summer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Prospect M.B. Church of Nettleton with the Rev. George Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in The Sims Memorial Family Cemetery. Darden & Sons Funeral is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Sims of Tupelo; one brother, Levi Green of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Lillian Faye Morrow of Tupelo; a special caretaker, Sharia Adams of Wren; three grandsons; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Sims; five sisters; and three brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to service time at the church on Tuesday.

Liz Funk
TREMONT – Elizabeth “Liz” Funk, 69, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at her home in Hodges, Ala. She was born May 6, 1943, in Tremont to Christopher Columbus and Verba Marie Harris Roberts. She was a graduate of Tremont High School and Bevill State Community College. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Ray Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Piney Grove Cemetery near Tremont.
Survivors include her husband, Hoy Funk, of Hodges, Ala.; her children, Dale Mauldin (Mary) of Hodges, Ala., Lisa Webb of Smithville, Teresa Greer (Randy) of Hamilton, Ala., Susan Saylor (Scott) of Lake Villa, Ill., Lori Egworthy (Gary) of Warner Robins, Ga., Tommy Cappona of McHenry, Ill., and Tammy Pruitt (Joe) of Golden; six sisters, Johnnie Wilson, Sarah Lesley, Gwen Hawkins, Jean Bailey, Kathy Leathers and Linda Wilson; one brother, Lee Lundy; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Robinson; two brothers, Easter Roberts and Coy Roberts; and her parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Essie Cummings
SMITHVILLE – Essie Cummings, 97, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory.
Tom Lewis
EL FEGUNDO, Calif. – Tom Lewis, 72, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, after a 13-year battle with cancer. He was born on May 13, 1940, in Egypt, Miss. He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, during which time he moved to California with his wife. His sons, John Michael Lewis and Darrell Bruce Lewis, were born in Long Beach. When Bruce was 2 weeks old, the family moved to El Segundo in 1964 where Tom began a long career with Chevron. He loved sports, hunting, trap shooting and supporting the activities of his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boones Chapel (496 CR 411) in Okolona.
In addition to his sons, Mike and Bruce, He is survived by his grandchildren, Tommy, Dana, Erin, Hunter, and James; and his siblings Johnnie Ruth Wright, William Earl Lewis, Lounez Scrivner, Elizabeth Hamrick, Clayton Lewis, Edd Lewis, Sammy Lewis, and Cathy Thornton.

Darrell Myers
WEST POINT – Darrell Myers, 59, passed away on Aug. 4, 2012, at his home. He was born July 30, 1953, in West Point to Bill Myers and Maycel Charles Myers. He was a former supervisor for Clay County, serving for 11 years. When serving as supervisor, he was on the GTPD Board and the Education Committee for the M.A.S. He was a contractor and retired dairy farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in West Point with the Rev. Rick Crampton officiating. The body will lie in repose from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Robinson Funeral Home is in Charge of Arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Myers of Cedar Bluff; three daughters, Ruby Puckett (Frankie), Jennifer Allen of Cedar Bluff and Christie Keenum (Lee) of Cedar Bluff; one son Darrell Zane Myers (Annmarie) of Columbus; two brothers, Clayton Myers of Cedar Bluff and Wayne Myers of Braatsk, Russia; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Maycel Myers; and his stepmother, Ruby Avant Myers.
Pallbearers will be Aubrey Blair, David Norris, Ricky Blake, Terry Cannon, Greg Fretz and Keith Bagwell. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends and co-workers.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.

Willene Taylor
MACEDONIA COMMUNITY – Willene Rakestraw Taylor, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at River Place in Amory. She was born on Dec. 29, 1928, in Lee County, to R.A. and Willie Miller Rakestraw. She married Thomas A. Taylor on Feb. 2, 1956, and they enjoyed 56 years together until his death on April 5, 2011. They lived most of their lives in Lee County. She retired after more than 25 years employment with the Sherman Warehouse Co., a division of the Fruit of the Loom Corporation. A member of Sherman Baptist Church, she loved to garden, tend to her large yard and flowers, crochet and cook, especially big Sunday lunches for her siblings, nieces, nephews and neighbors. She was a beloved wife, sister and a special “Aunt Ene” to her nieces and nephews and their children.
A service celebrating her life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Tommy Ray Dabbs and Bro. Greg Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Rakestraw family plot at Union Cemetery North of Belden.
She is survived by her siblings, Jerry Rakestraw (Linda) of Nettleton, Bud Rakestraw (Annette) of Macedonia and Bille Rakestraw of Colorado; sister-in-law, Hazel Rakestraw of Pontotoc; nieces and nephews, Debbie, William Earl, Yvonne, David, Matt, Mark, Todd, Tommy, Chris, Kim and Cindy; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and infant son; and her siblings, Kermit, Elaine, Tincie and Theo Rakestraw.
Pallbearers will be Matt, Chris, Todd, David and Mark Rakstraw, Albert Haddon and Joe Bridges.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today and noon until service time Tuesday at the Tupelo Chapel.
