Homer Blansett
WEST POINT – Homer Wilson Blansett died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Robinson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Truda Rhyne
FULTON – Truda Nell Rhyne, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009. She was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Itawamba County to Willie Mac and Sula Francis Williams West. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fulton. She had a tremendous love for her family, her friends, her pastor and her church family. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing Rook.
Services were Thursday, Aug. 6, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Winters, Bro. Dwight Faulkenbery and Bro. Curtis Shelton officiating. Burial was in Harden Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne (Gale) Rhyne of Mantachie and Timothy (Connie) Rhyne of Fulton; three daughters, Betty Jean (Bo) Young of Fulton, Sue (Wayne) Kemp of Mantachie and Kathy (Gary) Graham of Fulton; one sister, Dolly Waters of Fulton; three sisters-in-law, Helen West of Shannon, Jesse West of St. Louis, Mo., and Ozell West of Tupelo; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Rollins; five brothers, Trenton, Herman, Stanley, William and George West.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Ella Ferguson
OXFORD – Ella Watson Ferguson, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Eastover Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Temple Heights Baptist Church of Oxford.

Ronle Jones
BYHALIA – Ronle Benson Jones, 90, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at her home in Byhalia.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Newell Chapel CME Church at Victoria. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 to 11:55 a.m. Saturday.

Nichel Butler
MEMPHIS – Nichel Nicole Butler, 19, formerly of Holly Springs, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at her home in Memphis.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chulahoma M.B. Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
The body will lie in state at the church from noon to 12:55 p.m. Saturday.

Becky Long
PLANTERSVILLE – Becky Long, 63, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Holland-Harris Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel.

Joe Plunkett Sr.
CANTON, Ga. –Joe Sidney Plunkett Sr., 84, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009. He grew up in Tupelo, but lived the last 35 years in Canton. He was retired from Georgia Natural Gas Company after 39 years. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Fellowship in Canton, Ga.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Baptist Fellowship in Canton, Ga., with Rev. Jake Hall officiating. Private burial will be the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton, Ga., is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Edyth Smith Plunkett; four sons, J.S. “Rick” Plunkett Jr. and wife, Sue, of Smyrna, Ga., Philip D. Plunkett and wife, Dee, of Dublin, Ga., Larry S. Plunkett and wife, Dianna, of Chickamauga, Ga., and Jimmy D. Plunkett and wife, Julie, of Thomson, Ga.; one sister, Louise Kaiser of Tupelo; one brother, Harvey Plunkett of Reesport, Ore.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Plunkett, Ernest Plunkett and Spencer Plunkett, and two sisters, Marie Bush and Margaret Clark.
Pallbearers will be Chad Plunkett, Leif Plunkett, Caleb Plunkett, Brad Riggins, Jimmy Walters, Tripp Goodwin and Dave Reid. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Jeanette Williams Sunday School Class.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday.

Eldora Long
TUPELO – Eldora Long, 80, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. A native of Lee County, she was an active member of Blackland M.B. Church. She was a former employee of Long Laundry and Two Sisters Restaurant. She was devoted to her church, family and friends. She loved watching sports on T.V. and baking pies and cakes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blackland M.B. Church with the Rev. Earlie Eddie officiating. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah (Willie) Washington of Shannon and Viella (Johnny) Hooks of Tupelo; three sisters, Ida Morris and Dodrothy Long, both of Tupelo, and Patsy (Willie) Gardner of Verona; one brother, Jimmy Long of Verona; a special friend, Willie B. (Elizbeth) Johnson of Shannon; two godchildren, Linda Fay Washington of Shannon and Shelia Hooks of Memphis; three sister-in-laws; Clara Bonds of Belord, Wic., Earnestine Long of Shannon, MS., Hanna Long of Verona, MS., six grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Hattie Ann Clark Long; six brothers; three sisters; and three grandsons.
The body will lie in state from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the J.W. Porter Chapel and will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Glen Nichols
BLUE SPRINGS – Glen “Poncho” Lydell Nichols, 51, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Toms Brook, Va. He was born in Mobile, Ala., but had lived in Pontotoc and Blue Springs all his life.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Glen Washington officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Pontotoc County.
Survivors include two daughters, Christy McCord (Shawn) of Pontotoc and Amanda Nichols of Saltillo; one son, Greg Nichols of Saltillo; his grandchildren, Nathan and Drew Dowden, and Brooke and Preston McCord of Pontotoc, Molly Arionna and A.J. Nichols, and Riley and Caden Caldwell, all of Saltillo; his longtime companion, Wanda Smith, and her children, Vanessa Greene (Hugh), Crystal Stegall (Bob) and Alicia Smith (Dot Johnson), and her grandchildren, Katelyn, Channing, Jase and Alex Greene, all of Auburn; one sister, Wanda Hamm (Joe); one brother, Dennis Morris (Judy); nieces and nephews, Joseph Hamm, Sophia Bramlett (Kevin), Denny Jordan and Bethany Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Nichols and Sophia Nichols; and his grandparents, Robert and Jenny Nichols.
Pallbearers will be William Gibson, Phillip Sawyer, Mike Winchester, Jerry Thrasher, Stacy Hefner, Bryant Gibson and Ronnie Smitherson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Billy Turner
PONTOTOC – Billy Glenn Turner, 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at his home. He was a retired trucker and construction worker, and a former employee of Eutaw Construction.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with J.W. Owen officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Turner; three daughters, Jennifer Wages of Pontotoc, and Glenda Cavitt and Connie Mae Mialam of Tyronza, Ark.; four sons, David Turner, Dewayne Turner, Doug Turner and Bobby Turner, all of Lepanto, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Joe Turner; his mother, Katie Jane Eubanks; a sister, Magadeline Gann; and two brothers, John William Turner and John Leon Turner.
Pallbearers will be Chris Wages, Evan Kemp, Zack Wages, David Hendrix, Daniel Hendrix and John McBride.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today.

Jeanette Sanders
NEW ALBANY – Dorothy Jeanette Sanders, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 14, 1931. She was a seamstress and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Glenfield Funeral Home with Bro. Lee Graham officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Emmitt Sanders; three sons, Jim Champion (Ann), Terry Fair and Tim Sanders (Sheila); one brother, Glen Roberts (Glendora); five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Roberts, and her mother, Molly Lee Roberts; two sons, Rogie Sanders and James Sanders; two brothers, William Roberts and Lamar Roberts; and a sister, Mavis Howell.
Pallbearers will be Scott Moorman, Sam Taylor, Kenneth Robbins, Terry Thomas, Donnie Grant and Joe Kizer.

Jimmie Tedder
PONTOTOC – Jimmie L. Tedder, 69, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at the Tupelo Nursing and Rehab Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc.

Gladys McCarty
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gladys LaPrade McCarty, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, in Charlotte, N.C. She was born June 13, 1918, to Arthur and Elvie Buchanan LaPrade. She married Robert McCarty on Oct. 8, 1954 and shared 48 years of marriage before his death in 2002. She worked in the cafeteria of Pontotoc City Schools and Pontotoc Extended Care Hospital, and babysat numerous children for many years in her home. She was a charter member of Oak Hill Homemakers Club and a longtime member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Pontotoc and was actively involved at University Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C., where she worked in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and feeding and watching birds.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Baptist Church with her great-nephew, the Rev. Thomas Littlejohn, the Rev. Ryan Rodgers and her son-in-law, the Rev. Alan Taylor, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah McCarty Taylor, and son-in-law, Rev. Alan Taylor, of Charlotte, N.C.; a granddaughter, Cassie Taylor of Charlotte; a son, Donnie McCarty, and daughter-in-law, Tena McCarty, of Houlka; a grandson, Brendan D. McCarty, and granddaughters, Katie McCarty and Ashley McCarty, all of Houlka; many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Baptist Church.

WALNUT – Daniel Crum, 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Sammie Fields
MCCONDY – Sammie Fields, 61, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at his home in McCondy. He was born May 30, 1948. He was an employee of Seville Manufacturing in Okolona until his health failed. He was a member of Union Baptist M.B. Church.
Services will be Saturday at Union Baptist M.B. Church in Prairie. The Rev. Mike Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Union Baptist Memorial Garden. Jackson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia Smith; three grandchildren, Brittania Smith, Johnny Shambry III and Clayton Wofford Jr.; three brothers and four sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lougenia Fields; and two brothers and one sister.
