Robert Lee Jr.
RIENZI – Robert W. Lee Jr., 58, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born Dec. 7, 1951, in Prentiss County to Robert Willie and Myrl Jean Darst Lee. He was a truck driver and a member of New Covenant Church. He loved to hunt and fish.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville with Bro. David Krech officiating. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery near Jacinto.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Burns Lee; two daughters, Christie (David) Kelly and Brandy Lee, both of Booneville; two sisters, Susie (James) McCreary and Melissa (Bryan) Hamlin, both of Booneville; one brother, John D. Lee of Rienzi; three grandchildren, Ryan Kelly, Taylor Kelly and Emilee Kelly; special friend, Ruthie Jane Shaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Peyton Lee Sims.
Visitation will continue until service time today.
Ethel Huffman
TUPELO – Ethel Huffman, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Burlison, Tenn., to C.M. and Lillie McMillin Baskin. She made her home in Burlison until 2000, when she moved to Tupelo. She was married to Milton Russell Huffman for 37 years until his death in 1984. She instilled in many children the love of learning and knowledge during her 36-year teaching career in Tipton County, Tenn. She was an avid reader and loved working in her yard. She was an active member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Burlison, Tenn., for many years and has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo and the Ruth Sunday School Class since 2002.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Munford Funeral Home Chapel in Munford, Tenn., with the Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Covington, Tenn. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the local arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Frank Huffman of Burlison, Tenn.; two daughters, Jan West of Tupelo with whom she lived, and Nancy Bomar (Jim) of Drummonds, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Kristi Walker (James), Bryan Huffman (Lara), Aaron Huffman (Nina), Emily Morris (Charles), Landon Huffman, Chris Bomar (Samantha), Dawson Hufman and Frank Douglas Huffman; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Bryan Huffman, Aaron Huffman, Dawson Huffman, Frank Douglas Huffman, Chris Bomar, Jay Walker and Charles Morris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Montgomery, Randy Montgomery, Eddie Craig, Anthony Huffman and Dalton Huffman.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Munford Funeral Home.

Earl Garner
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Earl Garner, 79, formerly of Benton County, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the home of his son, Rev. Roger Garner, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Royston Chapel CME Church in Benton County. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to 12:55 p.m. Friday.

Bobby G. Flanagan
MABEN – Bobby G. Flanagan, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cumberland Baptist Church in Cumberland. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Claudine Cartee Downs
CEDAR BLUFF – Claudine Turnage Cartee Downs, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. She was born Oct. 18, 1922, in the Cairo community in Clay County to Carrie Blake Turnage and Pat Turnage. She was a seamstress and floor lady for Knickerbocker Manufacturing Company and later for Big Yank Corporation for a total of 35 years service. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She married Claude Cartee on Aug. 26, 1939, in the Griffith community. He died on March 20, 1991. She married Emmett T. Downs in Clay County one June 2, 1995. He died on Dec. 18, 1997.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Bro. Larry Haggard officiating and Bro. Payton Myers assisting. Burial will follow in Big Springs/Enon Cemetery at Big Springs.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Myers (Neal) of West Point; one son, Claude Cartee Jr. (Judy) of Cedar Bluff; three grandchildren, Jimmy Myers, Jason Cartee and Dustin Cartee; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Myers and Janie Myers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Roy Turnage; and a half brother, Virgil Lee Powell.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Myers, Jason Cartee, Dustin Cartee, Jonathan Myers, Bud Cartee, Roy Allen Turnage and Ernest Cothran.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Hill, Bill Wallace, Dr. John Cox, Dr. Andrew Wartak, members of Enon Baptist Church and the staff of Dugan Nursing Home.

ASHLAND – Kathleen Scroggins, 66, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Regional Medical Center.

Joseph Q. Hunter
BARTLETT, Tenn. – Joseph Q. Hunter, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. He was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Union County to Orville and Mary Lou Robbins Hunter. He was a retired personnel consultant and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Bartlett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. An avid bowler, he loved golfing and composing music.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Burial follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Hunter; a son, Christopher Allen Hunter of Bartlett; two stepdaughters, Lisa Wicker of Blue Springs and Jo Mroz of Memphis; a stepson, George Hodges of Blue Springs; one sister, Carolyn Dye (James) of New Albany; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hunter, and a brother, Rev. Orville Wayne Hunter.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gladye Fudge
OXFORD – Gladye Metts Fudge, 98, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Born in Lafayette County, she was the widow of Euphus Fudge. She was an active member of Yellow Leaf Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as the church secretary. She was a member of the first graduating class of University High School. She was a retired clerk at Finger’s Ice Cream Parlor. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry East officiating. Burial will follow at Yellow Leaf Cemetery.
Survivors include her brother, Floyd Metts of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Waller Funeral Home.

Charles Seamster
OXFORD – Charles Dwayne Seamster, 42, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital. Born in Witchita, Kan., he was a member of Plantersville Baptist Church. He was a store manager at Walmart. He was a graduate of University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the bowling team. He was a fan of wrestling, football and NASCAR.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hope officiating. Burial will follow in Owen’s Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Vaughn Seamster of Hamilton, Ala.; a daughter, Kayla Alexandria Seamster of Hamilton, Ala.; one son, Charles Vaughn Seamster of Hamilton, Ala.; his father, Charlie Seamster and wife, Pat, of Plantersville; his mother, Linda Blackmon and husband, Larry, of Plantersville; one sister, Kim Duffy of Gautier; two brothers, Scott Seamster of Saraland, Ala., and Michael Blackmon of Ft. Worth, Texas; and his stepmother, Kathy Gober Harris of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Helen Fraley, and Bessie and Artie Seamster.

Bettye Pierce
AMORY – Bettye Hill Pierce, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, she was born Feb. 15, 1922 in the Quincy Community to Robert F. and Leona Crosby Hill. She married Gilbert Pierce; he died in 1996. Before her retirement, she worked for Smithville Garment Co. for many years. She was a member of the Kennedy Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and piecing and quilting quilts.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at the Durrett Cemetery with Bro. Eddie McMillian officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Ray Pierce of Tremont; and two sisters, Lucy Kate Vaughn of Hatley and Ruby Ray Hairston of Amory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Robert Hill Jr., Sam Howard Hill and Crosby Lee Hill.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Pierce, Deewayne Pierce, Billy Pierce, James Hairston, Phil Adair, Mike Boone and Mike Hood. Honorary pallbearers will be the Golden Living staff and the Golden Living Physical Therapy Department.

Jennifer Taylor
SOUTHAVEN – Jennifer Lynn Taylor, 40, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was born March 19, 1969, in Greenville to Joe L. Taylor and Jean Sykes Taylor. She was a Christian and a Methodist.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home in Houston with the Rev. Phillip Dearman officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Cemetery. An additional memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Belzoni United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Keeton and Kathy Price officiating.
Survivors include her parents, Jean and Joe Taylor; one brother, Jeffrey (Vicki) Taylor; one niece, Mary Horton Taylor, all of Southaven.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Taylor, and Garvin and Oliver Sykes.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Belzoni United Methodist Church.

Daisy White
BALDWYN – Daisy Marie White, 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at her residence after a brief illness. A native of Floral, Ark., she was born Oct. 17, 1917, to Louis and Anna Brannan Brown. She grew up in Floral, Ark., and moved to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1921 before returning to Arkansas a few years later. She married Arthur Rodell White who died in 1967. She moved to Tupelo after her husband died and then moved to the Baldwyn area in 1991. She worked 22 years with the North Mississippi Medical Center as a Hospice Care nurse’s aide and was one of the first class members to go through the Hospice care program in the U.S. She enjoyed sewing, reading and flower gardening. She was a member of Jericho Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Pleasant Plains, Ark., with her son, Bro. Floyd White, officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Floyd Brownell White (Shirley) of Pleasant Plains, Ark.; her daughter, LaDonna Dell Roberson of Baldwyn; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the cemetery.

RIPLEY – Carol Lynn Lewis, 61, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. She was born Feb. 9, 1948, to Bob Zeller and Ethel Fleener Zeller. She was a retired sewing operator for Benchcraft. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Ripley with Bro. Clay Pritchett and Bro. Omega Hall officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Lewis of Ripley; five daughters, Tonya Rodgers (Kim) of Falkner, Susan Lancaster (Jimmie) of Middleton, Tenn., Sonya Jones (Larry) of Blue Mountain, Tammy Bennett (Charles) of Falkner and Lei Ghann West (Scott) of Pontotoc; four sons, Eric Turnbow, Jason Lewis (Jessica) and Danny Lewis (Alesha), all of Ripley, and Riley Lewis of Walnut; one sister, Karen Ratcliff (John) Sun City, Ariz.; one brother, Ron Zeller (Mary Ann) of Iron River, Mich.; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Lewis; her parents; and two grandchildren, Kimberlee Bennett and Christain Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Kendal Miller, Christain Lewis, Blake Lewis, Josh Rodgers, Whit Johnson, Willie Storey, Drumico Rutherford and Larry Short. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Crawford, Dean Lowry and L.H. Hurt.

Jack Finley
TOCCOPOLA – Jack Finley, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He married Betty Jean Harbin on Feb. 25, 1956. He, his brother, his sister and good friends had a band, The Southern Sons and Dell, for many years. He loved whittling, telling jokes and laughing, watching squirrels, birds and deer, but most of all, being with his family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Marvin Ward and Bro. Gerald Finley officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Harbin Finley; two daughters, Phyllis Rettman, and Sheila Wilson and husband, Randy; one son, Delane Finley and wife, Rita; one grandson, Steve Dillard and wife, Leigh; his granddaughters, Candy Voyles, Vada Finley, and Jessie Waldo and husband, Spencer, all of Pontotoc; two stepgrandsons, Randy Wilson Jr. and wife, Ashleigh Collums Wilson, and Justin Wilson and wife, Shannon Walker; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, O.L. Finley; one sister, Ruby Tutor; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.R. “Ted” Finley and Eula Todd Finley; one son, Jackie Duane Finley; one grandson, Levi; one great-grandchild, “Tad” Waldo; two brothers, Marvin and Gene; three sisters, Melba Smith, Dell Ward and Irma Winters.
Pallbearers will be Curlee Fox, James Reid Tutor, Ken Weeks, Nathan Tutor, Kendall Johnson and Gary Cowsert.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe DiDonna, J.D. Waldo, O.L. Finley and Ansel Hall.
Visitation will continue from 9 to 11 a.m. today.
