Emma Stith
SHANNON – Emma Stith, 89, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by N.L. Jones Funeral Home of Tupelo.
Odessa Carr
TUPELO – Inez Odessa White Carr, 96, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at her home after a long illness. She was born on Nov. 19, 1913, in Monroe County to Webster and Reana Scott White. She had been a housekeeper in private homes, a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a member of New Providence M.B. Church, where she had served as a member of the Kitchen Committee, Senior Choir, and Missionary and Deaconess Ministries.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at New Providence M.B. Church with Rev. Elston Charles Kemp officiating. Viewing will be from 11 a.m.-12:55 p.m. before the funeral service. Burial will be in Porter’s Memorial Cemetery. Grayson & Porter’s Mortuary of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a niece for whom she was a guardian, Dessie M. Covington Woods (Sylvester) of Tupelo; a brother, Freazie White (Mattie Lee) of Detroit, Mich.; three sisters-in-law, Lucille White of Pittsboro, Leomia Carr of Egypt, Miss., and Beverly Carr of Chicago, Ill.; two very special family members, Lula B. Harris of Prichard, Ala., and Brenda Woods of Tupelo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including Joseph Woods of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Thomas Carr; four sisters, Minerva Covington, Catherine Gunn, Mildred Wise and Amanda Brandon; one brother, Roosevelt White; and a niece, Mildred Covington Mobley, for whom she also was a guardian.

RIPLEY – John Walter “J.W.” Walker, 70, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McBride Funeral Home. Visitation will be today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carolyn Shook
AMORY – Carolyn Jenkins Shook, 66, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Karl Hurt
RIPLEY – Karl Franklin Hurt, 75, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Dec. 25, 1933, to the late Elmer and Carrie Holliday Hurt. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and attended Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved Tennessee Walking horses and gospel and bluegrass music. He was an Army veteran. He was a retired foreman at Pep Industries, was previously a foreman at Ripley Shoe Products, and was also retired from Tippah County Hospital in Security and Maintenance.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Johnson and Bro. Larry Dollar officiating. Burial will be in Jacobs Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Edwina Sparks Hurt of Ripley; one daughter, Rhonda Hopper (Lannie) of Ripley; one son, Jimmy Hurt (Janet) of Ripley; two granddaughters, Amber Hopper and Kristin Hurt; twin grandsons, Andrew Hopper and Austin Hopper, all of Ripley; one step-granddaughter, Kim Bullock of Falkner; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe.
Pallbearers will be James Smith, Phil Sparks, Perry Dale Sparks, Jimmy Hatcher, W.M. Hatcher and Bill New. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Grisham, Ronnie Dunnam, Wayne Goolsby, Melvin Hill, Harvey Childers and Charles “Tig” Grisham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

BOONEVILLE – Edwin White “Ed” Jenkins, 60, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Avonlea Assisted Living in Tupelo. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Ronald Michael officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.

OXFORD – Anthony McClure Wilson, 57, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Methodist University Hospital. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford.

H.Q. Lovelace
OXFORD – Harold “H.Q.” Quitman Lovelace, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II where he served as a Torpedoman’s Mate third class, submarine service. Born in Chickasaw County, he was a member of South Oxford Church of Christ and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was the former owner of H.Q. Lovelace Air Condition and Refrigeration,
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pine Bluff Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Lovelace of Oxford; two sons, Mike A. Lovelace of Grenada and Keith Lovelace and his wife, Genia, of Oxford; one brother, Elbert R. Lovelace and his wife, Alean, of Carrolton, Texas; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

PONTOTOC – Ralph Beasley, 83, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Pontotoc Extended Care. He was a mechanic and a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church. He loved gospel singing and to deer hunt.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Wesley Stephens and Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Gary Beasley (Lisa); a brother, John Ray; a granddaughter, Sherry Stout; a grandson, Mitch Edge; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lois Beasley; a son, Dennis Beasley; a daughter, Lillie Irene Beasley; a brother, Willie Beasley; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Allen Simmons, Dwight Simmons, Andy Simmons, Zack Beasley, Casey Beasley, Chris Holley and Chad Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be Jr. Acres and Shane Smith.

Floyd L. McKinzie
NEW ALBANY – Floyd L. McKinzie, 74, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Beasley Funeral Home.
Willie Maude Cox
HOUSTON – Willie Maude Baird Cox, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. She was born March 15, 1915, in Houston to Osma Everett Baird and Lizzie Jane Breland Baird. She began her career as a registered nurse in 1936 and retired in 1984. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Houston. She loved her family dearly and felt very lucky to have them with her.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Center in Houston with Father Timothy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Penney Nichols (Larry) of Houston; her daughter-in-law, Linda Cox of Baton Rouge, La.; her grandchildren, Kathy Ritter, Cammy Laughlin, Courtney Galloway, Paul Gerard Cox III and Suzanne McCain; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Gerard Cox Sr., on Oct. 21, 1993; and her son, Paul Gerard “Gerry” Cox Jr., on Dec. 7, 2001.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brody Collums, Gerard Cox, Dalton Collums, Bobby Boydston, Dennis Laughlin and Taylor McCain.

Gene Hitchcock
PONTOTOC – Robert Gene “Mule” Hitchcock, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was a retired furniture wholesaler and a member of Pontotoc Apostolic Church. He loved to hear his beagles run and to spend time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Pontotoc Apostolic Church with Bro. Benny Randolph and Bro. Max Brasfield officiating. Burial will be in Judah Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Brenda Hitchcock; two daughters, Kathy Hodge (Tommy) and Alesa Clark; one grandson, Cody Lamar Hodge (Cassie); one great-granddaughter, Emma Camille Christian; and a special friend, Jackie Robbins (Janet).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabree Alice Hitchcock; his father, Robert Dewey Hitchcock; and two grandsons, Jody Owen Clark and Robert Kyle Clark.
Pallbearers will be Glen Hunter, Joey Onsby, Ronald Brady, Mark Tucker, Bobby Walker, Scotty Pannell, Chris Eldridge and Mitchell Tatum. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pontotoc Apostolic Church.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mary Elliot Bolt
BENTON, Ill. – Mary Elliot Bolt, 87, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Stonebridge Senior Living Center in Benton, Ill. She was born on June 5, 1922, in Poplar Springs, Miss., the daughter of Langston Whitten and Jesse Mae Potter Whitten. She married Wilbur Alex Bolt and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1996. A former resident of Green Forest, Ark., she was a housewife and a former member of the United Methodist Church in Green Forest.
Survivors include four children, Marilyn Dohr of Benton, Charles Holcomb of Harrison, Ark., Donald Holcomb of Green Forest and Jimmy Holcomb of Thompson Station, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Linda Persman of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Julie Holcomb of Hermitage, Tenn., Tracy Holcomb of Antioch, Tenn., Jody Holcomb of Granby, Mo., Robert Holcomb of Harrison, Dane Holcomb of Green Forest, Shannon Holcomb of Kansas City, Mo., and Meghan Mathis of Fayetteville, Ark.; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Gillespie, Florence Whitten and Dora Rice, all of Tupelo, and Linda Vincent of Jackson, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Thomas Holcomb; and four brothers, Wood, June, William and Joseph Whitten.
Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Klassen officiating. Burial will be in the Hale Cemetery in Green Forest.

POTTS CAMP – Mary Josephine McCallum, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at her residence. She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Robert Earnest and Lena Burke Earnest. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Bynum officiating. Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Myrtle.
Survivors include a son, Earl McCallum Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; four daughters, Ruby Slade of Mesquite, Texas, Cheryl Campbell of Potts Camp, Pam Sanders of Potts Camp, and Earlene Ray of Lake Charles, La.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Vleet McCallum.
Visitation will be from 5-9 tonight at the funeral home.
