Susan McDonald
TUPELO – Susan Rogers Newton McDonald died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Seminary to Willie Lea and George Alexander Newton, who preceded her in death. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi with a major in journalism and a minor in history. Susan married Tom McDonald on Sept. 1, 1957. They moved to the Mantachie community, where Tom began his medical career. Susan was a vital member of that community as well as a founding member of the Mantachie Pilot Club. After several years of service in Mantachie, Susan and Tom moved to Jackson to allow Tom to specialize in neurosurgery. While in Jackson, Susan continued her community service while raising their five children. In 1977 they moved to Tupelo where she resided until her death.
Susan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder, Sunday school teacher, member of the Chancel Choir, Bible School teacher and for many years presented the Children’s Sermon. In 2012 Susan was awarded Lifetime Membership in the Presbyterian Women’s organization, where she served in many capacities including Moderator. One of her many gifts was creative writing and she graciously composed the Presbyterian Women’s Monthly Devotional as well as daily devotionals during Stewardship season.
Susan was a lifetime member of Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo, which she continued to support through the years as a sponsor of the annual Charity Ball. Susan was a charter member of the Hernando Desoto Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was a longtime member of Tupelo Garden Club, where she served as President. Susan was a member and avid supporter of the Forthian Club; Fortnightly Musicale Club; Mary Stuart Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; Medical Alliance; Tupelo Ballet; and Tupelo Symphony League.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Richardson and the Rev. Dr. Tom Groome officiating. Interment will be at First Presbyterian Columbarium. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years Tom McDonald, and five children, Bess Robbins (Grayson) of Tupelo, Jay McDonald (Louann) of Booneville, Aimee Burrow (Chris) of Jackson, Margaret McDonald of Tupelo and Alice Stine (William) of Olive Branch; six grandchildren, Alix, Mary Kate and Larkin Robbins of Tupelo, Walker and Nicholas Burrow of Jackson, and Trae Stine of Olive Branch; one brother George Newton (Willie) of Marietta, Ga.; special friend and caregiver, Tressa Walker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are members of her Friday Luncheon Group, “The Friday Girls”: Emily Barber, Judy Billups, the late Judy Hodges, Laura Lackey, Claudia Neelly and Mary Elizabeth Williams.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday in McFadden Hall at First Presbyterian Church.

Laverne Hooker
THAXTON – Laverne Hooker, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona. She was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church and retired from Action-Lane Industries. She enjoyed shopping, sewing and growing flowers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with the Rev. Billy Ray Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Thaxton Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her five daughters, Debra Hicks (Chipper) of Oxford, Kathy Biffle (Tommy) of Thaxton, Judy Crane (Cecil) of Pontotoc, Lisa Bost (Jimmy) of Amory and Janet Hanna (Carl) of Pontotoc; four sisters, Delores Pass of Bartlett, Tenn., Louise Williams of Tupelo, Betty Bost of Tupelo and Diane Cox of Pontotoc; one brother: Malvin Turnage of Thaxton; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stoney Clinton Turnage and Eula Gardner Turnage; her husband, Wendell Hooker; a grandson, Jeremy Clinton Crane; and a great-granddaughter, Rylie Leath.
Pallbearers will be Seth Crane, Zac Cannon, Trae Biffle, Jacob Crane, Ty Bost, Chet Hicks, Wesley Bost and Clif Hanna.
Visitation will continue 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Samuel Henderson
TUPELO – Samuel Felix Henderson, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1921, to Isaac Perry Henderson and Lucy Wynona Richardson Henderson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a technical sergeant in the 726th combat infantry during World War II. He was twice wounded and earned two Purple Hearts.
He retired from Billups Western Petroleum Co. after 35 years, and later worked for Richey Manufacturing. He was a Christian. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, reading his Bible, generously giving to his family, friends and neighbors, and he loved his pet cats. He was fondly called “Red” by everyone.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Henderson; two daughters, Ann Fullilove (Ken) of Houston and Jane Riley; four grandchildren, Nick Moreland, and Donnie, Sam and Heather Henderson; and great-grandson, Trey Matthew Riley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Donald Lee Henderson; his grandson, Matthew Kyle Riley; his brother, Isaac; and his sister, Eleanor.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Lee Memorial Park.

Boyce Nanney
TUPELO – Boyce Oneal Nanney, 74, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He retired from American Motors after 15 years and he had worked for Coats America. He was a Baptist.
Private service will be held today. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Willie Laverne Wilson Nanney of Tupelo; three sons, Bobby Nanney of Saltillo, David Nanney of Jasper, Tenn., and Danny Nanney of Ringo, Ga.; four grandchildren, Madison Nanney, Amanda Nanney, Tabatha Nanney and Andrew Nanney.

Roy Grissom
RIPLEY – Roy Woodrow Grissom, 55, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. He was born April 2, 1957, to Amos Grissom and the late Opal Marie Zeman Grissom. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He was a security guard with Crossroads Security in Corinth.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Hall officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Methodist Cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Marie Smith of Ripley; two sons, David Roy Grissom of Ripley and Christopher Wayne Grissom of Walnut; his father, Amos Grissom (Vicky) of Decatur, Ala.; two sisters, Douglas Ann McGriss (Roger) of Vinemont, Ala., and Brenda Janet Jaeger of Decatur, Ala.; one brother, Amos Matthew Grissom (Tammy) of Oakridge, Ala.; four grandchildren, Monika R. Grissom, Celia Michelle Blasingame, Dawson Dewayne Price and Johnny Lee Smith Jr.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Marie Zeman Grissom; one sister, Dorothy Marie Pannell; two brothers, John Wayne Greenhaw and Chucky Zeman; and two grandchildren.

WEST POINT – Faye Moore Pearson, 76, passed away, on Tuesday. Dec. 11, 2012, at her home in West Point. She was born May 7, 1936, in Montpelier to Maggie Lou Pate Moore and Charles Andrew Moore. She was a homemaker and had worked at Knickerbocker and Big Yank Manufacturing. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and an active member of the Columbus Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 53. She married Thomas Eugene “Pappy” Pearson on Nov. 19, 1955, at the First Baptist Church Parsonage.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery at Montpelier. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. “Pappy” Pearson, and one daughter, Judy Pearson Ray (Wayne), all of West Point; two grandchildren, Leslie Ray Hood (James) and Susan Ray Fulgham (Greg); five great-grandchildren; Emily, Lena Kate, Jake, Sarah Grace and Joseph: one sister, Glenda Clardy (Stennis) of West Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Martha Lou Moseley and Virginia Hosmer; and brother, Hugh Milton Moore.

MANTACHIE – Mattie Terry Hill, 100, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at The Courtyards Community Living Center in Fulton. She was born May 31, 1912, to John Morgan and Ella Boren Terry. She married William Marlis Hill on Oct. 4, 1936. She was a Baptist and active in her church’s activities until health problems prohibited participation. She was honored for her 100th birthday on May 31, 2012, by the residents and staff of The Courtyards.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Booker and Bro. Royce Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Fawn Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include one sister, Grace Marlin of Mantachie; seven nieces, Elizabeth Wood (A.D.), Martha McKeever and Eleanor Hale, all of Texas, Laura Johnson (Prentiss) of Saltillo, Jo Ann Rathbun and Ima Beam of Mantachie, Linda Sanders (William) of Picayune; two nephews, T.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1982; her parents; three brothers, John D. Terry, Milford Terry and Sam Terry; three sisters, Luna Moon, Vera Comer and Christine Nichols; and two nephews, Lawrence Terry and Gene Nichols.

BLUE MOUNTAIN – Edward Ather “Toddy” Hill, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1935, to Hubert Hill and Nina Mae Knox Hill.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Antioch M.B. Church in Blue Mountain. Burial will be in Antioch-Academy Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Hill of Tupelo and Tammie HIll of New Albany; a brother, Clauzell (Marjorie) Hill of Myrtle; a sister, Naomi Hill of Blue Mountain; two grandchildren, Kendra and Tyler; children he cared for, Mary (Dwight)( Cummings, Linda Ann (Jeff) Thompson; a special caregiver, Shunta M. Hill; a nephew, Clay Hill of the home; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a child under his care, Hazel Wade; and brothers, Hugh Thomas “H.B.” Hill, Joe Paul Hill and Leroy Hill.

POPE – John Mark Pickett, 52, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his home in Pope.

Will Allen Jr.
STARKVILLE – Will Allen Jr., 91, passed away on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his residence in Starkville. He served in C Army 10th Mountain Division 616 Field Artillery during World War II. He was a 1940 graduate of Mooreville High School in Mooreville. He was a sales supervisor with Dairymen Inc. and later was receiving clerk for Oktibbeha County. He was a member of Artesia United Methodist Church; a member and former commander of American Legion Post 13; and a lifetime member of VFW.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn Ann Allen and William David Allen, both of Starkville; grandchildren, Paul Allen of Decatur, Ill., Carolee Allen of Fort Myers, Fla., Jennifer Allen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mike Allen (Amber) of Decatur, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Megan Allen and Ethan Allen of Decatur, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Anderson Allen and Mittie Lou Priddy Allen; his wife, Lucille Estes Allen; and his siblings, Faye Burgess, Joe Allen, Clyde Allen and Ruby Brooks.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville. The Rev. Sandra Brown will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.

Susan Gray
AMORY – Susan Juanice Gray, 58, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Medical Center. She was born Aug. 16, 1954, in Amory, to Max Earl Gosa and Betty Sue Howell Parham. She married Roger Dale Gray on June 3, 1972. She was a graduate of Hatley High School Class of 1972. She attended East Amory Baptist Church. She was a department manager at Walmart with 24 years of service. Possessing a contagious smile, she was a very kind-hearted lady, who cherished time spent with her family, especially her husband, sons and granddaughter. With the help of her husband, she kept a beautiful yard and flower gardens. She enjoyed oldies and gospel music.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by her sons, Chris Gray of Amory and Cory Gray of New Albany; sister, Leigh Chaney Smith of Smithville; Brother, Les Turman of the Parham Community; granddaughter, Karli Eugenia Gray; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Chaney.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy, Charles and Rickey Moreland, Wayne Howell, Mike Riley and Mike Kuykendall. Honorary pallbearers will be her fellow employees of Walmart.

Terry E. Dalton
MERIDIAN – Terry E. Dalton, 51, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born April 25, 1961, in Boston, Mass., to Charles and Patricia Dalton. He was self employed and owner of Dalton Auto Sales in Meridian. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Presidential Guard for President Jimmy Carter. He loved life and enjoyed every moment of it. His life was filled with laughter, funny stories and jokes and he most enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. He loved each one of his children and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Culpepper, the Rev. Ervin Mooney and the Rev. Doug Goodman officiating. Family and friends are invited to share remembrances during the service. Burial will be in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RED BAY, Ala. – Mary H. Hall, 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Generations of Red Bay.
