Archie Majors
AMORY – Archie Lee Majors, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Golden Living Center. He was born on Sept. 10, 1929, in Bethlehem, he was a son of Artimus Timmy and Elsie Tubb Majors. He attended Monroe County Schools. He worked for Glenn Manufacturing as a presser and retired in 1998. He was of the Baptist faith. A hardworking man, he was dedicated to his wife. Inventive, he could make anything out of wood. He enjoyed quail hunting, listening to classic country music, and going out to eat and taking vacations with his friends. Having a love for animals, especially dogs, he was close to his dog, Willa.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Masonic Cemetery with Bro. H.V. Brown officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl and Tommy Swan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Faye Culver Majors of Amory; a daughter, Rebecca JoAnn Majors Dill (Ralph) of Amory; a son, Danny Majors of Amory; sisters, Arvella Cox and Mary Jean Hurley (Drexel) of Amory; grandchildren, Kevin Dill (Brandy) of Amory and Carrie Ligon (Tony) of Smithville; and great-grandchildren, Rebecca Catherine and Caroline Aubrey Dill and Triston, Tyler and Blake Ligon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Deason; twin brother, Ernest Majors; a son, Tommy Majors; and close friend, Roland Ausborn.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Everyone is asked to meet at 10:40 a.m. today at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Mack Hankins
MOOREVILLE – Mack Elbert Hankins, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at his residence in Mooreville after a sudden illness. An Itawamba County native, he was born June 5, 1941, to Hezie Chy and Mildred Beatrice Towery Hankins. He was an inspector with Elger Plumbing retiring after 42 years of service. His life was devoted to his family, and friends and caring for his Black Lab “Chloe.” He enjoyed working on his farm and keeping his lawn and garden. He attended Tupelo Baptist Church with his family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Mike Drewery officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Mantachie.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Saundra “Sue” Hankins of Mooreville; his son Timothy Mack Hankins of Mooreville; four sisters, Elizabeth Joan Case (Larry) of Hernando, Evelyn Rogers of Saltillo, Patsy Gray (Jimmy) of Mooreville, and Cathie Miller (Gary) of Tupelo; his special aunt, Elizabeth McCollum of Nettleton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Larry David Hankins who died in 1965.
Pallbearers will be Van Peters, Rexel Peters, Ricky Harris, Clarence Thurman, Brian Gray and Dennis Nolan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at W.E. Pegues on Jefferson Street.

IUKA – Rayma L. Biggs, 95, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at her residence.
Services are at 3 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Tommy Morrison
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Ca. – Thomas Graddy “Tommy” Morrison, 59, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc. He was a Baptist and a CPA and a Controller for the Kearney Company in California. He enoyed traveling, music and arts and appeared on the Jeopardy show.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Stubblefield officiating; burial will follow in the Ecru Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Lyna Graddy Morrison of Ecru and his brother, James Morrison and Min of Plano, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Madison Morrison.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Glatis Holcomb
SALTILLO – Glatis “Bud” Holcomb, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen.
Sue Bowie
TUPELO – Marjorie Sue Hamm Bowie, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at the Franks House on the campus of Traceway Retirement Community after an extended illness. She was born in Prentiss County on Aug. 8, 1924, to Samuel Magus Hamm and Patti Lou Simmons Hamm. She graduated from Booneville High School and Mississippi State College for Women. Her career include positions with GMamp&O Railroad, and she was especially proud to be secretary to hospital administrators at Baptist Memorial in Memphis, Tenn. and Alexandria, La. She was instrumental in fundraising for LeBonheur Children’s Hospital as she served as secretary to the administrator. She was a faithful member of United Methodist Churches in her communities. She was very involved in Keenagers and Stuckenschneider Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, North MS Emmaus community and locally was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church. She volunteered at Trinity Nursing Home and will be remembered for her famous cheesecakes. Her favoriate pastimes included bridge games and travel. She and her husband played bridge and enjoyed trips in different parts of the world with special friends. She was a much beloved wife and a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Glen Wiygul, the Rev. Claire Dobbs and the Rev. Rick Brooks officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday only. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Hamm/Bowie family plot in the Booneville City Cemetery in Booneville. Holland-Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with all arrangements.
Survivors include her beloved and devoted husband, William Scott (Billy) Bowie; sister-in-law Ruby Bowie of Holly Springs; and special nieces and nephews, Patsy Gregory (Bob) of Okolona, Buddy Stubbs (Mary) of Tupelo, Carolyn Greene Herting (Dave) of Mandeville, La., Betty Burch (Manny) of Holly Springs and Vicky Griffith (Scott) of Hernando; she leaves many great-nieces and nephews, Trisha Gregory, Caroline Gregory, Susannah Gregory Whitehead (Woodson) all of New York, N.Y., Erin Stubbs of Tupelo, Vandy Stubbs of West Point, Matthew Greene (Tara) and Michael Greene (Laura) of Madisonville, La., Jonathan Burch of Holly Springs, Jason (Ainsley) Burch of Southaven, Chris Griffith of Hernando, many great-great nieces and nephews and her special friends at the Franks Green House.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gordon Robertson
RIPLEY – Robert Gordon Robertson, 69, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born May 17, 1942, to G.P. and Ozella Walker Robertson. He was a Senior Insurance Auditor for Overland Solutions and was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Ripley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Peoples Cemetery.
He is survived by three brothers, W. Vance Robertson (Ida) of Collierville, Tenn, Charles Robertson (Peggy) of Terry and Donald Robertson (Judy) of Falkner; three nieces, Honey Mearns (Duawn), Jennifer Polomo (Martin), and Susan Robertson; three nephews, Brad Robertson (Jennifer), Adam Robertson (Amber) and Seth Robertson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Drewery, Butch Robertson, David Heath, Randy Robertson, Robert Henry and Allan Ray Robertson. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Eugene Gaters and Shirley Wayne Brock.

Tula Vance
BRUCE – Tula Mae Doss Reid Vance, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Bruce Community Living Center. She was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Houlka. She was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church and attended Reid School. She was employed by the garment plant for 19 years and cooked for restaurants for 25 years.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell Logan and Dr. Daniel Hathorne officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Vardaman.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Carol Reid Burgess of Houlka; two sons, Andy Reid and wife Amy of Bruce, Tommy Reid and wife Jeannie of Coffeeville; four sisters, Geneva McCafferty of Starkville, Minnie Franklin of Pittsboro, Barbara Morris of Randolph, and Sarah Nickels of Maben; two brothers, Raymond Doss of Danville, Va. and Steve Doss of Grenada; five grandchildren, Jason Reid, Kristi Reid Turner, Beverly Ruth, Daphne Burgess Paden and Larry (Bubba) Burgess, Jr.; three step children, Alice Spencer and husband Gray, Johnnie Gillespie and husband Norman and Ray Vance and wife Shirley; three step grandchildren, John, Van and Amy; 12 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Jackson (Jack) Doss and Essie Lula McDowell Doss; her husbands, Wayne Gaylon Reid and J. T. Vance; a daughter, Brenda Kathleen Reid Ruth, sisters, Jimmie Pendergrass and Ethleen Thomas; and brother: Pete Doss.
Pallbearers will be Larry (Bubba) Burgess, Jr., Heath Franklin, Jamie Gables, Jerry Gables, Timmy Morris, Jason Reid, Arthur Thomas, and Johnny Walls.
Honorary Pallbearers are Gayle Bullard, Davy Doss, Earnie Doss, Glen Doss, Jimmy Franklin and John Morris.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gennie Springer
SALTILLO – Gennie Mae Switcher Springer, 83, formerly of Corinth, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
She was a former employee of the Alcorn County School System at Kossuth School and was of the Baptist Faith.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McPeters Funeral Directors Chapel with visitation at 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Corinth National Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Lansdell (Mike) of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Tina Springer, Johnny Springer (Jennifer), Jennifer Sheeks (Bryan) and Shannon Pumphrey (Scott); daughter-in-law, Carol Springer of Saltillo and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Springer; a son, Jimmy Springer; her parents, Rudy and Effie Switcher and six siblings.
Memorial may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House of Tupelo.
Hubert Smithey
BALDWYN – Hubert Smithey, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at the Sunshine Inn Nursing Facility in Myrtle after an extended illiness.
Arrangements were incomplete and will be announced later by Waters Funeral Home of Baldwyn.
Charles Bates
FULTON – Charles E. Bates, 64, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home. He was born November 9, 1947, to Hubert and Della Steele Bates. He worked for 43 years as an electrician for Jesco maintenance at Cooper Tire. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid golfer and Ole Miss fan who loved guns and spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Bill Thomas officiating. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Thomas Bates, of Fulton; two daughters, Shaundi Little (Jimmy) of Saltillo and Brooklyn Roberts (Sam) of New Albany; a stepdaughter, Cassie Rogers (Timmy) of Fulton; one brother, Kenny Bates (Dee Dee) of Fulton; four grandchildren, Weston Little, Aidan Little, Ford Roberts, who was born on Charles’s birthday, and Ace Rogers; two nephews, Nathan Bates and Zachary Bates; two brother-in-laws, Ken Thomas (Terry) of Ocala, Fla., and Wade Thomas (Gail) of Fulton; several uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Sam Roberts, Jimmy Little, Ken Thomas, Johnny Riley, David Morman, and Ronnie Warren.
Honorary pallbearers are the D Crew at Cooper Tire and his four grandsons.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Tony Logan
VARDAMAN – Tony Ray Logan, 51, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his residence. He was born Oct. 15, 1960. He was an employee of American Furniture in Ecru.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, with Bro. James Taylor officiating assisted by Bro. Benny Hill. Burial to follow in Rocky Mount Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Edria Mooneyham Logan of Vardaman; a daughter, Christy Lashae Logan of Vicksburg; three sons, Allen Trent Logan, Eric Scott Logan, Evan Ray Logan all of Bruce; three sisters, Mary Jane (Homer) Moore of Vardaman, Kathy Gail Logan of Vardaman, Paula Kay Duke of Pontotoc; a brother, Steven Wayne Logan of Vardaman; five grandchildren, Gracie Lagrone, Parker Logan, Brooklyn Logan, Avery Logan and Colt Logan; niece, Ashley Skelton; nephews, Christopher Duke, Cody Duke, John Moore.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Ray Logan and a daughter, Heather Elizabeth Logan.

Winnel Gholston
ABERDEEN – Winnel C. Gholston, also known as “Redbone” died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011. He was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Aberdeen. He was married to Ruby Spearmon.
Services are at 1 p.m. today at Jackson Mortuary Chapel. Viewing is at 10 a.m. today until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is Odd Fellows Rest in Aberdeen.
Survivors include a son, Clifton (Minnesota) Gholston, a sister, Joyce Gholston Vasser, a brother, Robert Gholston, two nephews, Roderick Vasser and Kenneth Campbell, three nieces, Bernetta Stephenson, Bernice Jackson (Drake) and Patrice Coleman (Mitch); brother-in-law, Jacquel Griffin (Lula), a host of other relatives and lifetime friend, Casey Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Spearmon who died in 1977.

OXFORD – Wallace Keith Oakes, 39, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at The Med in Memphis, Tenn.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford with funeral services following at 2 p.m. in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Abbeville Cemetery in Abbeville.

Keith Sumrall
AMORY – Keith Sumrall, 58, died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at his residence. Born on May 17, 1953, in Cleveland. He was a son of Mary Ann Sumrall and Delbert H. Sumrall.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Blount officiating.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Sumrall of Amory; a daughter, Jessi Sumrall of Calhoun City; sisters, Debe Blount (Bill) of Amory and Pam Dale (Steve), of Vancouver, Wash.; nephews and niece, Ben and Justin Wright of Amory and Katy Alexander of Vancouver, Wash.; and several cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a niece, Emily Wright Horne.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

KIRKVILLE – Eddie Charles Pounds, 55, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home. He was retired and was a baptist. He loved spending time with his grandaughters. He loved sports and was an avid Ole Miss fan. He enjoyed playing dominoes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.
Survivors include his son, Brett Pounds and Tifffany of Fulton; two sisters, Brenda Roberts and Terry of Baldwyn and Judy Barnes of Kirkville; one brother, Larry Pounds of Kirkville; two grandaughters, Haley Pounds and Savannah Pounds.
He was preceded in death by this parents, Gene and Betty Malone Pounds; and a brother, Rickey Pounds.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Roberts, Michael Roberts, Tracy Barnes, Scotty Pounds, Brian Beasley and Mike Wilburn.

OKOLONA – Linda Ann Walls Hood, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with burial in Andrews Chapel Cemetery south of Mooreville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until service time Wednesday all at the Okolona Chapel.
