Odeel Chapman
TUPELO – Odeel Mitcham Chapman, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born in Bernice, La. on June 6, 1917, the daughter of Zollie and Macy Mitcham. She lived in Louisiana and Arkansas before moving to Tupelo with her husband, Alvin Rue Chapman who preceded her in death on July 29, 2003. She taught school for a number of years, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family and being actively involved in her Church, Calvary Baptist Church.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at the Lee Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bob McCustion officiating. Entombment will be in the Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include her daughter, Patty Chrestman and husband, Jim, of Saltillo; three grandchildren, Angie Sigl and husband, Don, of Durham, N.C., Steve Chrestman of Atlanta, Ga., and Amy Smith and husband, Josh, of Saltillo; and three great- grandchildren, Ella Carrie Smith, Reid Chapman Smith, and Sophie Arsema Sigl.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alvin Rue Chapman; her parents; and two brothers, Max Mitcham and her twin brother, Odele Mitcham.
Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church.

OXFORD – Robert Grisham “Bob” Bennett Sr., 77, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home in Oxford.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories at Coleman Funeral Home.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Coleman Funeral Home.

Timothy Shumpert
FULTON – Timothy Shumpert, 42, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. He was born on Sept. 13,1970, in Tupelo to Leon Westbrook and Fannie Shumpert Turner. He confessed a hope in Christ at early age and joined Pine Grove M.B. Church in Fulton where he remained a member. He was a 1989 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School. He was employed by Bahaus and KI for a number of years.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Dorsey Attendance Center Gymnasium in Fulton with the Rev. Greg Pegues officiating. Interment is at Pine Grove Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pearline Shumpert; his mother, Fannie Turner of Fulton; the children that he raised, Anna Marion (Kendell) and Kevin Senter (Jacqueline), both of Plantersville, Joseph Senter (Christy) of Dorsey and Denise Riley (Donnell) of Shannon; and brothers and sisters, Terry Holland of Detroit, Mich., April Westbrook, Kenny Westbrook (Catrina) and Samantha Robinson (Anthony), all of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Westbrook.
The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service time at the church.

CORINTH – William C. Smith, 63, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Magnolia Regional.

Sammye Baker
OXFORD – Sammye Carter Baker, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born on April 16, 1929, in Pittsboro to Lula Cooner Carter and J.P. Carter. She worked at Calhoun Garment Company, Freeman Truck Line and Graceland Care Center. She was a member of Taylor United Methodist Church. She loved to cook, sew and cross-stitch.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Dabbs, the Rev. Annette Ford and Matthew Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery.
Visitation is 3:30 to 6 p.m. today at Waller Funeral Home.
Survivors include her three daughters, Jane Bryan of Taylor, Jean Pinion (Rusty) of Tula and Kathye Thweatt (Jerry) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shaw Baker; son, Kenneth Shaw Baker; sister, Mary Jane Lowery; and brother, Jim Porter Carter Jr.

Joseph Jennings
HOUSTON – Joseph Jennings, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born to Vernon Jennings and Eva Lamb Jennings in Sparta. He worked over 30 years at Franklin Corp. He was a member of Amity Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Brotherhood.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Amity Baptist Church with Brother Scott Griffin officiating. Interment is at Amity Baptist Church Cemetery. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Porter Jennings of Houston; one son, David Jospeh Jennings of Houston; four sisters, Mary Alice Lancaster (Jimmy) of Van Vleet, Geraldine Griffin (Gerald) of Houston, Erin Porter (Charlie) of Houston and Brenda Jenkins (Larry) of Pontocola; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Jennings Sr.; and two sisters, Betty Jo Nabors and Melba Reed.
Pallbearers are Tommy Kilgore, Jimmy Brand, Linn Hughes, Steven Porter, Wesley Bass, Mike Bennett and John Lancaster.

EUPORA – William Givhan Waugh, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.

Laverne Rossell
MYRTLE – Vivian Laverne Rossell, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Community Hospice in Verona. She was born May 7, 1924, in Blue Mountain to Grover Cleve Jerrigan and Myrtle Lee Martin Jerrigan. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Butler officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Gullick (Rodney) of Vilonia, Ark.; two sons Bob Rossell (Cindy) of Bauxite, Ark., and Jim Rossell (Linda) of Grandville, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William L. Rossell; two daughters, Betty Frances Derryberry and Peggy Sue Rossell; and a son, Dwayne Russell.

Nadine Thompson
MT. PLEASANT – Nadine Smith Thompson, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Baptist Hospital in Collierville. She was born March 15, 1925, to Brady Smith and Mary Lou Garner Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gerald Hodges, Bro. Gary Adams and Bro. Barry Littlefield officiating. Interment is at Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by sons, Ralph Thompson (Geraldine) of Slayden, Moody Thompson (Dot) of Mt. Pleasant and Jimmy Thompson (Beverly) of Collierville; daughter, Myra Bailey (Wayne) of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Ferrell Thompson and Bobbie Gaines, both of Collierville; brother, William Grant Smith of Collierville; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph Thompson; her parents; brother, Walkins Smith; and granddaughter, Tammy Skelton.

Charld Allen
BOONEVILLE – Charld H. Allen, 59, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 13, 1953, to Willie B. Allen and Minnie O. Allen. He worked at Booper Tires and retired from Booneville school system. He was a member of Faith Harvest Church.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at TV 53 broadcasting station in Booneville with Pastor Lee A. Miller officiating. Interment is at Beckley Chapel Memorial Garden.
He is survived by wife, Martha Pannell-Allen; children, Jason Allen of Winona, Nina Allen of Booneville and Degratious Jenkins (Anna) of Silver Spring, Md.; sisters, Irma Allen, Marvelene (Roosevelt) Spencer, both of Booneville and Mary Francis (Marshall) Allen; brothers, John N. Allen, Thomas D. Allen, Norman T. Allen and Bobby Shinault; and grandchildren, Tyler (Deanna) Allen, Jasmine Allen, Jalen Warren, Jaymen Allen, Maria Jenkins, Sara Grace Hatch and Zara Faith Pittman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Trillion and Hattie Crump and Ernest and Georgia Allen; and siblings, Lee Ernest Allen and Bobby Neal Allen.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon at TV 53.
Linda Sellers
MOOREVILLE – Linda Sellers, 65, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born March 7, 1947, in Baldwyn to Burrel and Skitty Lou Wood Sullins. She worked as an inspector in the garment industry for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Eggville Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing solitaire and working with her computer and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her dog, Little Lady.
Service is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jesse Strider officiating. Interment is at Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, George Sellers; one daughter, Brenda Johnson (Eddie) of Peppertown; three sons, Timothy Sellers (Jamie) of Mooreville, George David Sellers (Frances) of Mooreville and Terry Sellers (Robin) of Shannon; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Diane Harbin of Little Rock, Ark.; and one brother, Bobby Dale Sullins of Middleton, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers are James Holloway, Michael Holloway, David Gray, Eddie Johnson, John Guyton and Wayne Tackett. Honorary pallbearer is Todd Palmer.
Visitation is noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

SALTILLO – Jerry F. Taylor, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

Marzelle Gardner
WEST POINT – Marzelle M. “Sis” Gardner, 90, passed away Sunday, Dec 30, 2012, at Brandon Court in Brandon. She was born on Aug. 28, 1922, to Bart H. and Myrtle M. Murrah in Eupora. She was a bookkeeper for Seitz Lumber Company in West Point. She was a member of North Brandon Church of Christ. She was an avid reader and enjoyed arts and crafts.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.
She is survived by her sons, John F. Gardner Jr. (Linda) of Brandon and Thomas David Gardner (Connie) of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Julie Miller, Laura Adcock, Brad Gardner, Angela McIntire and Mary Gardner; nine great-grandchildren; and niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Gardner Sr.; a brother, Thomas B. Murrah; and her parents.
Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sara Ishee
PONTOTOC – Sara Dallas Ishee, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born on Dec. 28, 1935, in the Troy community and attended Troy Elementary School, Pontotoc High School and Itawamba Junior College.
For a number of years, she lived in Grenada and was employed at McQuay Industries. After retiring, she spent many years traveling around the state with her husband, Hollis, District Forester with the Mississippi Forestry Commission. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grenada, and after a move to Pontotoc, faithfully attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Friends and family will remember her love of gardening and the outdoors, sharing her faith in Christ and spending time with many friends who were considered “family”. She was never far from her beloved dogs, Prissy and Bear, and adopted and loved many animals in her life. She enjoyed cooking and visiting with friends, neighbors and her fellow church members. Although she had no children of her own, she was thought of as a “Mother” by many. Her quick wit and infectious laugh brought comfort to family and friends alike.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Sims and the Rev. Larry Windham officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, DeVan Dallas (Ellouise) of Pontotoc and Paul Dallas of Tupelo; four nieces, Diane Sauers (Jack), Pam Dallas, Sandy Dallas and Paula Dallas; two nephews, Tony Dallas and Mark Dallas; her great nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Faye Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Lorene Dallas; her husband, Hollis Ishee; and an infant brother, J.M. Dallas.
Pallbearers will be Jack Sauers, Gene Dallas, Bob Piazza, Sam Marter, Ramon Pierce and Tommy Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald and Sammie Waldrop, Maurice and Chris Ferguson, Donald and Billie Jo Bell, Jerry and Ann Morgan, Melvin Noland, Tommy Dykes, Lester Snell, Billy Belk, Terry Foster, Steve Morgan and her classmates of Pontotoc High School.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlie Gilley
TUPELO – Charlie McKinley Gilley, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born in Prentiss County on May 30, 1926, to Baxter and Myrtle Richey Gilley. He lived much of his life in Prentiss County where he was owner/operator of Gilley’s Barber Shop in Booneville for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo and the Senior Adult Sunday School class. He was a U.S. Army veteran with service during World War II.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Rick Brooks officiating. Private burial will be in the Booneville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Peggy Brewer Gilley, to whom he married Dec. 14, 1945; children, Richard Gilley and Wanda Gilley Armstrong, both of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Carrie Killebrew Coggins (John), Jennifer Gilley Cole (Michael) and Scotta Gilley Allen (Paul); five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Shurden (Mandolyn), Lennon Cole, Chandler Coggins, McKinly Cole and Elliot Allen; and one great-great-grandchild, Kinsley Shurden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class at St. Luke.
Visitation is noon until service time today at the Tupelo Chapel.
