TUPELO – Richard Eugene “Gene” Hood, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Tupelo to Richard Henry Hood and Effie Rogers Hood. He was a patriotic man, serving in the Mississippi National Guard. He worked in the furniture industry his entire adult life. He attended Union Grove Church of God in Mooreville. He enjoyed cars, listening to gospel music and working in his garden.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris Hardin Hood of Tupelo; one son, Richard Alan Hood (Nita) of Grenada; three daughters, Vickie Purser Smith of Jackson, Susan Renee Hood (Stan Head) of Copwell, Ala., and Denice Enis (Larry) of Shannon; one brother, Wayne Hood of Tupelo; three sisters, Radar Keith of Mooreville, Odell Franks of Verona and Lorene Montgomery of Mooreville; five grandchildren, Chris Purser, Alan Hood (Stephanie), Kyle Hood, Brandi Russell and Brandy Head; and four great-grandchildren, Damien Hampton, Brandon Scales, Kevin Scales and Aubre Scales.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn child, Rickie Hood; a brother, Haskell Hood; and sisters, Olene Bell and Rupel Grimes.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Billy Adams and Bro. Curtis Sutton officiating. Private burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

BOONEVILLE – Bric Thomas Turner, 26, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1986, to Tommy and Dr. Anita Turner. He was a 2005 graduate of Booneville High School and attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and the University of Mississippi. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and playing pool. He also loved to spend time with friends and family, and listen to music. His greatest dream was to someday have his own family which was fulfilled through his generous love and sacrificial giving to many.
Services were Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Gaston Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Prather, the Rev. Trey Lambert, the Rev. Kenneth Harrison and the Rev. Matt Brown officiating. Burial was in the Oak Lawn Memorial Park. McMillan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors are his parents; two sisters, Mariah Lucille and Angel Renee Tuner; other family, Loretta Polanco and Destiny Crunk; and his grandparents, Tom Turner of Booneville and Bobbie Jean Williams of Milton, Fla.
He was preceded in death by, his grandparents, the Rev. Clifford and Ruby Smart; and his great-grandparents Albert and Clara Turner.
Pallbearers were Jamie Davis, Jay Davis, Jake DeVaughn, J.D. Hawkins, Blake Jones, Warren Jumper, Chad Moore, Briley Morgan, Hunter Nanney, Rickey Nanney and Jeff Prentiss. Honorary pallbearers were Collin Turner, Timothy Turner, Justin Perrigo, Coy Perrigo, Brett Prather, Charlie Smart, Lonnie Smart, Bart Prather and the BHS Class of 2005.

Mae Brice Griffis
TUPELO – Mae Brice Griffis, 107, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 9, 1904, in Tupelo, the daughter of Horace and Ora Lee Collier. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Church of God In Christ, where she was active until her health failed. The namesake of the Griffis Green House at Traceway Retirement Community, she would regularly roll her wheelchair around, preach the gospel and sing her favorite song, “Amazing Grace,” to anyone who would listen. She worked in domestic service until she started her own business of making crocheted doilies.
A celebration of life service was held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at J.W. Porter Chapel at Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary in Tupelo. Elder Jeremiah Penro officiated. Burial was in Porter’s Memorial Park.
She is survived by her cousin and guardian, Lillie Faye Adams of Tupelo; and other cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.B. Griffis; and her brother, Horace Collier Jr.

Ruby J. Russell
PONTOTOC – Ruby J. Russell, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 10, 1934, to Robert and Willie Tuneberg Ferguson in the Robbs community. She married Everette Russell and they shared many wonderful years raising four sons and a daughter. She loved her family. She was a Baptist.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Zane Parker officiating. Graveside service will follow in the City of Pontotoc Memorial Park. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Russell (Angela) of Jacksonville, Ark., Jerry Russell (Linda) of Pontotoc, Bobby Russell (Kim) of Ripley and Steve Null (Lori Gay) of Walnut; one daughter, Patty Blaylock (Jimmy) of Tupelo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Ferguson of Plantersville and Haskell Ferguson of Reno, Nev.; a special niece, Barbara Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
TUPELO – Caysen Keith Wright Franks, newborn, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. He was born Dec. 3, 2012, to Derrick Franks and Emily Reich Wright in Mississippi.

ALPINE – Mary Louise Lee “Liza” Davis, 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She also attended Jericho Baptist Church. She enjoyed yard sales and antiques. She loved reading her Bible.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Davis Pettigo of Alpine and Debbie Davis Stephens (Mike) of Pratt community; one son, Danny B. Lee of Alpine; two brothers, Lonnie Hampton of Baldwyn and Sylvester Hampton (Gayla) of Illinois; five grandchildren, Mattie Pettigo, Jennifer Carpenter (Paul), Daniel Lee (Tracy), Kimberly Powell (Matt) and Chris Pannell (Natasha ); seven great-grandchildren, Haley Carpenter, Katie Carpenter, Triton Lee, Tinley Lee, Kylee Hatcher, Coner Pannell and Tyler Pannell; and special relative, Jr. Scott.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Auris Lee Jr.; her second husband, Virgil “Tip” Davis; her third husband, Damon Herring; son, David Lee; and her parents, Colus and Edna Patterson Hampton.

Sharon W. Moon
AMORY – Sharon W. Moon, 62, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Gilmore Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Conroe, Texas, on June 26, 1950, to Harris G. and Barbara Hayes Wood. She grew up in and attended school in Louisville. She was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church, where she was active in the Ladies Community Bible Study. Living the Christian life to the best of her ability, she studied the Bible extensively and always sought to help others. She was very active in community outreach programs. She loved her family very much and enjoyed cooking the Cajun way, reading, watching TV, traveling, especially to Rome and Israel, and keeping up with family and friends on Facebook.
She is survived by her parents; her husband, John Moon of Amory; son, Paul W. “Rusty” Singleton (Stacey) of Tennessee Colony, Texas; stepsons, Gavin J. Moon (Rebecca) of Covington, Ga., and Darrell Moon (Ronda) of Corinth; brothers, Danny Metzinger of Arizona, Sam Wood of Jackson and Patrik Wood of Memphis; grandchildren, Michael White, Christopher Singleton, Julie Fogarty (John), Theresa Moon, J.P. Moon and Caitlin Moon (Scott); and great-grandchildren, McKason Singleton, Lilli Caite Burcham and Andrew Strickland.
