Mary Bean Herndon
PONTOTOC – Mary Bean Herndon, 68, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013. She was born May 8, 1945.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Second Baptist Church in Pontotoc. Burial will be in Pontotoc Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by three brothers, Charlie Wade Jr. of Pontotoc, James Wade of Tupelo and Leroy Wade of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Melvin Miles of Rosedale, Kelvin Miles of Pontotoc and Henry Miles (Brittney) of Germany; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, followed by public visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday.

CORINTH – Michael Hayden Jones, 65, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in Farmington Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Johnnie McNeal Davis
NEW ALBANY – Johnnie McNeal Davis, 80, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born March 3, 1933, in Union County to Wilford Duncan Hudson and Marjorie Fowler Hudson. She retired from Benchcraft. She was a member of the Beulah Homemakers Club and Beulah Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Beulah Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Hamilton and Bro. Marty Merritt officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Willie T. Davis; a daughter, Sandy Wimberley (Jackie); three sons, Dave McNeal (Vickie), Eddie McNeal (Charlotte) and Ronnie McNeal (Jean); two sisters, Patsy Dunahue and Darlene Thomas; four brothers, Kenneth, Gene, Travis and Don Hudson; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Amos McNeal; three sisters, Captola Davis, Mary Linda Cook and Willie Mae Rakestraw Allred; and two brothers, Carl and Danny Hudson.

Pallbearers will be David Meeks, Edwin Dees, Joe Bagwell, Thomas Bagwell, Roger Rakestraw, Randy Whiteside, Kevin Randall and Stephen Cook.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

John Allen Sr.
WREN – John Sherrod Allen Sr., 85, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his residence. He was born May 16, 1928, in Monroe County to Johnny B. Allen and Ella Lee Gentry Allen. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a farmer and drove an L.P. gas truck for 40 years. He was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church, and he was a Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Janie Brewer Allen of Wren; three sons, John Allen Jr. (Cheryl) of Aberdeen, Brent Allen (Patty) of Grayson, Ga., and Jeff Allen (Pam) of Wren; his grandchildren, Michele Houston, John Allen III, Kelsey Womack, Justin Allen, Jenna Walker and William Allen; and his great-grandchildren, Joshua Rezek, Zayden Davis and Brewer Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Julius Walden
ABERDEEN – Julian Alvis Walden, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born Sept. 21, 1943, to Alvis Edward Walden and Magdalene Stanford Walden of Aberdeen. He lived most of his life in Monroe County. He earned a B.S. degree in industrial engineering at Mississippi State University. After graduating from MSU, he worked for Union Carbide in New Orleans and Brown & Root in Houston, Texas, before returning home to Aberdeen to work with his father in the family business, Walden Hardware. After that, he worked for Glenn Manufacturing and Lowe’s before retiring. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop, carving, engraving and metal detecting. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen.

A private graveside service will be today, Aug. 13, at Lewis Easter Cemetery in Greenwood Springs with Chris Thomas officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Louise Walden of Aberdeen; two daughters, Kimberly Walden Walters (Claude) of Greenwood Springs and Tiffany Walden Dean (Derrick) of Aberdeen; one stepson, Dr. Buddy Creech (Amy) of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Donald Edward Walden (Mary Beth) of Columbus; two sisters, Anita Jean Bowen (Mike) of Aberdeen and Gwyneva Elizabeth Smith (Mike) of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Collin and Caleb Walters of Greenwood Springs, Madeline and McKinley Dean of Aberdeen, and Lauren, Seth and Margaret Creech of Nashville; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

June Narmour
MATHISTON – June Narmour, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at her residence in Mathiston. She was a nurse and a member of First Baptist Church in Mathiston.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora. Bro. Bubba Bland will officiate. Burial will be in Sapa Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (Melinda) Narmour of Guntown and Casey Narmour of Mathiston; a brother, Guy McKee of Starkville; and five grandchildren, Olivia, Cannon and Tanner Narmour of Guntown, and Matthew and Kinsey Narmour of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Narmour; her parents, Buddy and Ruby McKee; and a sister, Polly Davis.

Pallbearers will be Matthew, Cannon and Tanner Narmour, Pee Wee Davis, Max and Steve McKee and Jerry Harrison. Honorary pallbearer will be Raymond Cooper.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Don Melton
MOOREVILLE – Don “Mr. Z Man” Melton, 55, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1958, in Tupelo. He was a longtime resident of Mooreville. On March 28, 1987, he married his wife of 26 years, Betty Tackett Melton. A very loving husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed camping, fishing, truck driving and racing of any kind. He was a member of Skyline Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Caster Buse officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Tackett Melton of Mooreville; two sons, Allen Melton and Justin Melton (Danielle), all of Mooreville; three grandchildren, Jordan, Lulu and Ben Melton; two brothers, Riley Melton (Faye) of the Ratliff community and Jimmy Dale Melton of Florida; one sister-in-law, Diane Helms (Rex) of Tupelo; one brother-in-law, Bobby Tackett (Beverly) of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Laverne Johnson
HOUSTON – Elizabeth Laverne Brown Johnson, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, the day before her birthday, at her home in Houston. She was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Houlka to Curtis Leroy Brown and Verona Elizabeth Lancaster Brown. She was a retired secretary for the U.S. Forestry Service and a member of Houston First Baptist Church, where she served as organist and Training Union teacher. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club and a member of the Eastern Star, the Jaycettes and the Twentieth Century Club.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 13, at Houston Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her nieces, nephews, cousins and her caregivers, Sabrina Mays and Gail Mays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Johnson, on June 13, 2004; her parents; and her brothers, Willie Curt Brown and Herbert Brown.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Norman Jr., Leland B. Norman Jr., Jim Blue, Jimmy Smith, Kevin Smith and Rex Sanderson.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time today at Houston Funeral Home.
