Rick Savage
CORINTH – Rick Savage Jr., 58, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born March 27, 1954, in Marietta, Ga. His “day job” was a salesman for Albright’s Supply Company Inc. Words cannot express the joy and laughter he brought to so many. His greatest joy was his daughter and grandson. He was a self-taught musician with an amazing talent who brought life and passion to the music. His other interest includes his love for the outdoors and especially the water. If there’s a rock-and-roll heaven, they just acquired an amazing lead guitar player.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Corinth. The eulogy was delivered by his family and close friends. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Summer Holcomb (Sonny) of Corinth; his grandson, Kellen Kash Holcomb of Corinth; sisters, Vicki Savage Meadows (John) of Marietta, Ga., Sherry Savage Barrett (Wayne) of Iuka, Angie Davis (Cheryl Broughton) of Palestine, Texas; his former wife, Melissa Savage; several nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, George R. Savage Sr., and his mother, Carol Conway Davis.

Bessie Harmon
MADISON – Bessie Will Porter Harmon, 77, died in her Madison home with her family at her side Feb. 12, 2013.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 16, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A private burial service will follow immediately at Parkway Memorial Cemetery. Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland is handling the funeral arrangements.
Bessie or, “Granny” as she enjoyed being called by all the young people in her life, was born in Tupelo on March 8, 1935. She later attended and graduated from Central High School in Memphis, Tenn. She was immediately accepted into the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957. She married George Marion Harmon on Dec. 27, 1959, and together they traveled, relocated and had four children throughout the United States until finally settling in the Jackson area in 1977. Throughout her life until into her late 60’s Bessie enjoyed being a nurse in many sub-specialties including surgery, labor and delivery, trauma and geriatrics. She was a voracious reader and did beautiful needlework but most enjoyed spending time being a granny to 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and in particular traveling with her husband with a grandchild or two in tow.
Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, William Curtis Porter and Bessie Will Catledge Porter; a brother, Samuel Curtis Porter; her beloved husband of 50 years, George Marion Harmon, in 2009; a daughter, Nancy Ruth Harmon, in 1976; and also a grandson, Patrick Andrew Beatty.
Bessie is survived by Mary Katherine Harmon Beatty and her husband, Andrew Ross Beatty, as well as five children, Erin Julia Beatty Wakefield, husband Ben Wakefield, and great-grandson, Theodore “Ted” George Roy Wakefield; Claire Elizabeth, Madeline Edity, Christian George Harold and Juliet Grace Beatty, all of Sydney, Australia; Elizabeth “Beth” Harmon and her three children, MaryCarol Catherine Davison, Turner Catledge Davison and Becca Lee Elizabeth Harmon of Ridgeland; and a son, George Marion Harmon IIl and his wife, Meridith Ann Harmon, and their two children, George “Max” Harmon and Halle Elisabeth Harmon.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Elementary School or St. Joseph High School Band Department Harmon Memorial Fund.

Johnnie Mae Ford
HOLLY SPRINGS – Johnnie Mae Ford, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Trinity Mission in Holly Springs. She was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Benton County. She was a homemaker and a member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Feathers and Bro. Barry Littlefield officiating. Burial will be in Rice Chapel Cemetery at Lamar.
Survivors include her children, Ann Bumpas (Kent) and Mary Skelton (James) of Holly Springs, Deborah Breedlove (Michael) of Michigan City, and Robert Harold Ford, Geraldine Walker, Stella Walker and Betty Sue Yeager, all of Collierville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, General Lester Gray and Martha Edna Hunsucker Gray; a son, James Sydney Bumpas; and a daughter, Linda Carol Campbell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mildred Burns
BALDWYN – Mildred Philpot Burns, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Countrywood Plantation in Mantachie after an extended illness. She was a retired beautician and a member of the First Christian Church of Baldwyn. She enjoyed flower gardening and painting.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Caraway and Bro. Mike Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one son, Rod Burns (Cindy) of Baldwyn; one daughter, Harriett Riley of Baldwyn; grandchildren, Charles N. Riley Jr., Janeau Davis, Tim Riley, Kim Eldridge, Cadley Burns and Bentley Burns; and great-grandchildren, Maggie Davis, Cassidy Davis, MacKenzie Riley, Jake Eldridge, Jordan Eldridge, Rienzi Riley, Michael Gore, Danielle Gore, Dana Adams, Tyler Gore, Mercedes Tigner, Weston Poole, Brittnay Davis Poole, Gage Latham and Daniel Arnold.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Watson and Jennie Lou Philpot; her husband, Harold Burns; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Allen Davis, Gabrella Elaine Gore and Marlie Elizabeth Gore; a son-in-law, Chuck Riley; and brothers, Herman Philpot and Edward Philpot.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Rutledge, Mike Farley, Cadley Burns, Bentley Burns, Tim Riley, Chick Riley, Jake Eldridge, Jordan Eldridge and Michael Gore.

Nancy Williams
HOUSTON – Nancy Davis Williams, 86, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Care Center of Aberdeen. She was born May 26, 1926, in Chickasaw County to Thomas J. Franks and Sarah Irene McGee Franks. She was a retired clerical worker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with Dr. Glen Savell officiating. Burial will follow at Ellzey Cemetery in Vardaman. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda and Glen Savell of Houston; her granddaughter, Kristy and Sam Skelton of Houston; her grandson, Kelly and Debbie Harrell of Houston; and her great-granddaughter, Prysilla Skelton of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Franks and Sarah Irene McGee Smith; her husbands, Raymond Clark Davis and Daniel A. Williams; and her brothers, Reed Franks and J.D. Franks.

Gossie Jones
AMORY – Gossie Lee Jones, 80, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born April 5, 1932, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Liza and Robert Lee Jones. He was a member of Rose of Sharon Church. He attended school in both Prairie and Amory. He was formerly employed by the following companies: Gilmore Puckett Lumber Company, Cramco, Inc., True Temper, Knight’s Drive Inn and Firestone before going into business for himself with The Dock of the Bay Café. He loved and enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite TV shows, and enjoyed sports which included wrestling, golf and tennis. His greatest hobby and relaxation period was when he was working and restoring old cars and lawn mowers. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, eating home cooked meals and spending time with family.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rose of Sharon Church in Amory with Supt. Jessie L. Hutton officiating. Burial will follow in the United Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include, eight children, Gossie Jones Jr. of Amory, Diane (Van) Wilson of Amory, Kathy (John) Williams of Jasper, Ala., Patricia “Patty” Jones of Amory, Mary “Jackie” Jones of Amory, LeAndrew “Jr.” (Stephanie) Morgan of Chicago, Bettron “Bert” Jones of Stone Mountain, Ga., Shelia Hogan of Amory; two nephews, Keith Ramsey of Amory and Michael Ramsey of Texas; one niece, Sarah Jane Jennings of Chicago; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Clee; one son, Allen Jones; his parents, Robert Jones and Liza Daniels; one brother, Willard Ramsey; two sisters, Charleen Daniels and Bessie Lou Fultez; three grandchildren, Alfonzo and Alonzo Jones of Okolona, and Phillip Collins of Amory; and one great-grandchild, Jada Ball of Stone Mountain, Ga.
Pallbearers will be the American Legions of Post 239.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today with the family hour from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services on Sunday.

Ben Childs
RIPLEY – Ben H. Childs, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1942, to Shafter Houser Sr. and Lela Smith Childs in Tippah County. He was retired from the Public Service Commission and from farming. He was born, raised and passed away on the home place, the farm, which he worked his whole life for the opportunity of passing it on to his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Peoples Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. In the last three years, he was devoted to the care of his wife of 43 years, Frances Wall Childs, who passed away Feb. 6, 2013, eight days before his own death.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Randy Isbell officiating. Burial will be in Lowry Methodist Church Cemetery in Ripley. McBride Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Heath Childs (Amanda) of Tupelo and Todd Childs of Birmingham; two grandsons, Cooper and Carter Childs of Tupelo; and one sister, Billie Sue Rowell of Ripley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Louise Wall Childs; his parents; two brothers, H.B. Childs and S.H. Childs Jr.; and five sisters, Vernon Bullock, Virgnia Wooley, Laezona Childs, Leona Richardson and Peggy Lockhart.
Pallbearers will be Stan Childs, Chad Newby, Craig Rowell, Cole Childs, Larry Charles Richardson and Beau Childs.

Jannie Fenton
WEST POINT – Jannie M. Fenton, 73, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Jackson University Hospital in Jackson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Union Star M.B. Church in West Point. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Columbus. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Howard Headings
BALDWYN – Howard Headings, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Veterans Home in Oxford after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Willow Springs, Mo., to Charles F. Headings and Della Jane Howard. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served on the USS Massachusetts for 14 months in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, where he served a area chaplain, adjutant of the local post, area vice commander, district commander, state chaplain and on a number of committees. He also served on the National Security Commission. He retired from the ministry in 1991 after pastoring at the Highway Christian Church. He was a Mason and a member of the VFW.
Services with military honors will be at 3 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Carraway officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Headings and Phillip Headings (Mattie), both of Tupelo; one daughter, Jill Pieczyk (Bob) of Jackson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one stepson, Petey Hopkins of Guntown; and one stepdaughter, Janice Williams of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hopkins Headings; his parents; two sisters, Georgia Bray and Naomi Spurgeon; and a brother, Dennis Hill.
Pallbearers will be the military.

Donald Tatum
RIPLEY – Donald C. Tatum, 69, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He was born Oct. 19, 1943, to Malachi Franklin “Chy” and Lela Beatrice Thrasher Tatum. He was the owner of Tatum Wood Products and a Baptist.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Jim Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Ripley. McBride Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Marie Harmon Tatum of Ripley; two daughters, Bobbie Tatum (Carlos Gray) of Walnut and Debbie Tatum Burns (Richard) of Ripley; three sons, Donnie Tatum of Walnut, Ronnie Tatum of Sterling, Va., and Freddie Tatum of Ripley; two sisters, Rippel Rasmussen of Booneville and Hazel “Duddy” Hertsch (Jerry) of Ripley; eight grandchildren, Ashley Pawlowski, Bryan Tatum, Teddy Burns, Amanda Zellner, Samantha Tatum, Morgan Dove, William Donald Burns and Justin Estes; four great-grandchildren, Aybree Tatum, Collin Pawlowski, Bryan Pawlowski and Levi David Rogers; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Leola Barber and Evon Drewery; and one brother, Aaron Tatum.

Wardie Jones
RIPLEY – Wardie L. Donie Shelton Jones, 100, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. She was born Jan. 27, 1913, to William Daniel and Mary Louisa Jobe Shelton. She was a member of Ashland Primitive Baptist Church. She was a factory worker and homemaker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Baker officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Wardie Louisa Mitchell Jones of Ripley; a host of nieces, nephews and their families; and a special great-niece, Wanda Carr (Cotton) and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolphus Mitchell Jones; one son, William Wade Jones; two sisters, Mary Thompson and Sadie Beibers; and four brothers, Dewey, Hermon, Earl and Austin Shelton.

Kenneth Johnson
NETTLETON – Kenneth Johnson, 57, died on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born Dec. 13, 1955, in Amory, he was a son of the late Jessie Void and Ilena Marie Waddle Johnson. A graduate of Nettleton High School, he served as a medic in the National Guard. A man of faith, he was a devoted member of the Limestone Baptist Church in Nettleton. He had worked as a carpenter for Kustom Cabinets in Maryville, Tenn., and was most recently employed at the NMMC in facility operations. Passionate about bluegrass music, he was a member of the Kneedeep Bluegrass Band. He enjoyed playing music, spending time with his family, his grandchildren, hunting and fishing.
A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Limestone Baptist Church in Nettleton with Bro. Cory Hall and Bro. Randy Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in Itawamba County. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Waldrip Dodson Johnson of Nettleton; two daughters, Alanna Y. Teeple (Keith) of Tupelo and Amanda M. Magers (Thomas II) of Tiplersville; one stepdaughter, Heather D. Wood (Robert) of Saltillo; one stepson, Will F. Dodson (Heather) of Pontotoc; one sister, Sandra J. Sally Lindsey
FULTON – Sally Lindsey, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at her residence. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and she was friendly to everyone. She retired as a seamstress from Lucky Star and she enjoyed cooking. She was a member of the Church of God.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Marvin Henry officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Gayle Scott of Fulton and Sharon Holland of Baldwyn; one son, Carl Jason Lindsey of Baldwyn; three sisters, Ruth Engleman of Florida, Thelma Lambert of Texas and Velma Blaine of Mississippi; three brothers, Bill Henry of Evergreen Bro. Marvin Henry of Baldwyn and Robert Henry of Louisville; grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas, Ricky Hodge, Veronica Brown, Carrie Crook, Lori Crook, Matthew Crook, Jessica Gray, Brienna Scott, Andrea Scott, Michael Gray, Stephanie Roberts; a number of great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lindsey; daughters, Lola Sue Brown and Carrie Lynn Potts; sons, William Crook and Michael Crook; granddaughter, Miranda Scott; daughter-in-law, Renea Crook; her parents, Newton and Eunice Berryhill Lindsey; and two brothers and six sisters.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Brenda Jones
BURNSVILLE – Brenda Lee Jones, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Glen. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Hill
BECKER – Kenneth Dumont Hill, 88, died on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Oaktree Plantation in Amory. Born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Quincy, he was a son of the late Kirby Dumont and Winona Mae Dabbs Hill. A 1942 graduate of Becker High School, he attended Mississippi State University where he majored in engineering. While a student at MSU, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Serving in the U.S. Army, he also was in the Army Air Corps in Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, Prague and Northern Africa. He married Margaret O’Nita “Nita” Evans on Aug. 5, 1943. Following the war, he returned to Mississippi State and later taught mathematics at Becker High School and coached girls’ basketball. He also farmed with his father and was a supervisor at Walker Manufacturing. A dedicated member of the Becker Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was later honored as Deacon Emeritus. A family man and dedicated Christian, he enjoyed his family, friends and gospel music.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Randy Spencer, Bro. Henry Ward and Bro. Christopher Waddell officiating. Burial will be in the Haughton Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret O’Nita “Nita” Hill of Becker; two daughters, Gayle Hill Ward (Henry) of Locust, N.C., and Janet Hill Gullett (Bill) of Starkville; six grandchildren, Jennifer Waddell, Scott Ward (Lauren), Kathy Ward Barnhardt, Michele Quinn (Michael), Foster Gullett (Laura) and Elizabeth Gullett; son-in-law, Hershel Sandlin (Juanita) of Becker; and eight great-grandchildren, Matthew Waddell, Christopher Waddell, Jessica Gruesbeck, Chas Gruesbeck, Shelby Munson, Graham Ward, Kirby Quinn and Abbey Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby and Winona Hill; brother, Edsel Lamon Hill; daughter, Kay Hill Sandlin; and grandchildren, Hershel W. Sandlin and Jamie Lann.
Pallbearers will be Bill Gullett, Hershel Sandlin, Scott Ward, Foster Gullett, Matthew Waddell and Bobby Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be the Becker Baptist Church deacon and men’s Sunday school class.

Shirley Killough
BLUE SPRINGS – Shirley Ann Killough, 77, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born in the Pinedale community on Nov. 20, 1935, the daughter of Garfield and Maggie Lou Childers Rutledge. She was a Baptist and a homemaker, and she loved tending her rose garden.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with Bro. Raymond Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Cemetery at Pinedale. Glenfield Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Killough and Terry Killough, both of Blue Springs; brothers, Roy Rutledge of Tyler Texas, and Jerry Rutledge of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Mabel Jurjevich of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Myra Killough of Tupelo; two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Killough; and two great-granddaughters, Jessica and Karlei Killough.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Hayes Killough; and her brother, Robert Rutledge.

Winston Quarles
RANDOLPH – Winston Glenn “Blue” Quarles, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Inpatient Hospice in Tupelo. He was a retired auto/tractor parts manager. He was a deacon and member of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, but attended Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in recent years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving stateside. An avid gardener, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Elder Larry Wise will officiate. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Modean Steward Quarles; son, Ronald Quarles (Alecia) of Pontotoc; daughters, Cathy Quarles of Randolph, Sandra Wise (Larry) of Randolph and Debra Clayton (Lewis) of Blue Springs; grandchildren, Sgt. Jacob Quarles FOB Fenty, Afghanistan, Elizabeth Quarles, Jonathan Wise (Paige), David Wise, Joseph Wise and Allison Clayton; one great-grandchild, Connor Quarles; brothers-Gene Quarles (Nell) and L.D. Quarles (Elaine); sisters, Jewell Holley (Dean) and Dorothy Maxey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillian Glen Quarles, and two brothers, Billy Wayne Quarles and J.C. Quarles.
Pallbearers will be Tim Quarles, Randy Quarles, William Holcomb, David Wise, Joseph Wise and Mark Holley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

William Galyean
CORINTH – William Galyean, 47, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was a Baptist and a 1983 graduate of Kossuth High School. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth with Bro. Randy Latch and Bro. Timothy Latch officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim Staten and Beryl A. Galyean, and Dewey Dewitt and Velma Lee Crum; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his son, Jordan Reese Galyean; his mother, Mary Ruth Crum; his father and stepmother, Jimmy W. and Joan Galyean; brother, David Galyean (Sallie); sister, Sheila Settlemires (Keith); nephews, Christopher Galyean and Demetrius Johnson; nieces, Krystle Binion (Kyle) and Brittany Rencher; great-nephew, Nolan Binion; great-niece, Natalie Binion; aunts, Mae Mattox, Emma Jo Latch, Liz Crum and Lena Crum; and uncles, Preston Latch, Leroy Crum and Jerry Wayne Crum.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
