TUPELO – Shelia Daniel Cobb, 56, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at her home. She was born May 24, 1955, in Lee County to John and Angie Bell Miller Daniel.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Red Hill M.B. Church in Blue Springs. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Norris Cobb; two daughters, Dana Cobb and Tangra Cobb, both of Tupelo; her siblings, James (Joyce) Daniel, Arvern (Leon) Fondren and Elizabeth Daniel, all of Racine, Wis., Robert Daniel, Lennell Daniel and Annie Dykes of Tupelo, Gloria Collins and Cornell Gillespie of sEattle, Wash.; three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hue Thomas Daniel.

TUPELO – Sue Parker Thompson died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, in Birmingham, Ala., after a brief illness. She was a resident of the Mitchell Center in Tupelo and a former resident of Guntersville, Ala. She was born July 3, 1929, in Anniston, Ala. She was a graduate of Anniston High School and Jacksonville State University. She was married to Ara “Tom” Thompson Sr. of Troy, Ala.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Birmingham, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. The Rev. Joseph P. Warren will officiate. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, Ala., with Spring Hill Baptist Church officiating.
Sue is survived by her sons, Ara W. Thompson Jr. (Marie) of Tupelo and Benjamin Bush Thompson (Staci House Thompson) of Mountain Brook, Ala.; grandchildren, Frank House Thompson and Nicholas Carl Thompson of Mountain Brook, Ala., Sara Thompson Alfred (Jeremy) of Bryan, Texas, Cecilia Thompson of Tupelo, Larie Steed Garrett (Nick) of Roswell, N,M., and Bryan Steed (Claudia) of Ossing, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Neely Stacks of Tupelo, Haley, Emmy, Nicky and Drew Garrett of Roswell, N.M., and Michael Steed of Ossing, N.Y.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard H. and Alric Agnes Bush Parker; one brother, Richard Parker Jr.; and her husband, Ara Washington Thompson Sr.
IUKA – Michael “Mike” Leatherwood, 64, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Poplar Springs Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.

ECRU – Jerry Graham Sneed, 65, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and talking about hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and a special pet, Skooter “Doody Rudy.”
Services were Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Apostolic Church with Bro. Jimmy Russell and Bro. Benny Randolph officiating. Burial was in the Sneed Family Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Linda Sneed of Ecru; daughters, Sandy Sneed Walker of Ecru, Gina Gale Griffin (fiancé, Joe Sugarbaker) of Ecru, Carol Strickland (Jimmy) of Blue Mountain; and Katie Staser (Shenan) of Pontotoc; sons, Garry Jordan (Trisha) of Tupelo and Sonny Snider (Christina) of Ecru; sister, Jenny Canipe of Counce, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clive Brooks Sneed; his mother, Lella Launa Sneed; brothers, B.J., Cecil, Robert, A.Q. and L.K. Sneed; sisters, Ila Mae Cooper, Shelby Gene Hantz, Vivian Swords and an infant sister; and a grandson, Jerry Bobby Mansfield.
Pallbearers were Gary Sneed, Jamie Mahan, Barry Sneed, Dusty Sneed, Nathan Swords and Jason Swords. Honorary pallbearers were Hugh Fooshee, Doc Williams, Bob Swords and Dale swords.

BELMONT – Brenda J. Allred, 64, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.

HATLEY – Elvin Ausbon “Jack” Franks, 82, died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at his home. Born on March 21, 1929, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Alford Elvin and Luna E. Christian Franks. He married Nellie M. Law on June 27, 1948. Hardworking, he had worked various construction jobs before retiring as a foreman with Monroe County Electric Power after 33 years of service. Professing Christ as his Savior on July 16, 1962, he was a member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. A loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a great sense of humor, many of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Sidney McLeod and Bro. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nellie M. Law Franks of Hatley; children, Jerry Franks (Dogama) of Nettleton, Cheryl Irwin (Jerry) of Grand Rapids, Mich., Brenda Turner of Hatley and Rickey Franks (Carol) of Hatley; sisters, Ernie M. Dill, Joyce Jackson and Loyce Holcomb, all of Fulton, and Linda Thompson (Oneal) of Aberdeen; mother-in-law, Evie Law, Hatley; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Faye Brown, Lavee Dill, Laverne Vess and Dathel McComb; a brother, Orville Franks; granddaughter, Kim Irwin; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Franks; great-great-grandson, Bentley Franks; great-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Watson; and father-in-law, Edward Law.

BRIGHTON, Tenn. – Arthur Curtis Sides, 65, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at his home in Brighton, Tenn. He was born March 19, 1946, to LeRoy Sides and Mary Ollie Sides Green. He worked at Matthew’s Blow Pipe Company for 36 years. He was jack-of-all-trades.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Warrner and Bro. H.B. Gray officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Paulette Decanter Sides of Brighton; one daughter, Mallisa Gail Ordonez of Covington; one son, Gerry Richard Sides of Covington; three grandchildren, Krystian Lynn (Woodward) Kamerzink, Erik Landon Ordonez Sides and Edgar Brandon Ordonez, all of Covington; one great-grandson, Zane Hayden Kamerzink of Covington; two sisters, Molly Fay Baker and Mary Elizabeth Tole; and two brothers, William Henry Sides and Jimmy D. NEW ALBANY – William Manuel Crossen, 74, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born in Tippah county on March 31, 1937, to Randolph Crossen and Louvenia Little Crossen. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Union County. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He loved having a garden and telling tales with his coffee drinking buddies.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Larry Bain and Bro. Terry Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by four daughters, Regina Wright and Renee Maddox, both of New Albany, and Kim Hall and Alison Maddox, both of Pontotoc; one sister, Julia McIntosh (Bob) of Aurora, Ill.; five brothers, Billy Crossen of New Albany, Wayne Crossen of Aurora, Ill., Tommy Lee Crossen (Dorothy) of Aurora, Ill., Jerry Crossen (Janet) of Portland, Ore., and Jimmy Crossen (Gail) of Wheaton, Ill.; his in-laws, Helen Shelton (Tommy), Rickey Thomas (Mary) and Lula Jordan; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife. Alma Von Crossen; two brothers, Ronnie Bruce Crossen and Charles Norman Crossen; one sister, Mary Alice Clemmons, one brother-in-law, Ray Thomas; one sister-in-law, Sharon Crossen; and his mother-in-law, Dessie Fortune.

WEST POINT – Gertrude Hurst Norris, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. She was born June 4, 1924, in Clay County to Laura Stringfellow and George Barnett Hurst. She was a homemaker and a member of West End Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, West Point Martha Chapter 53. She married Thomas Avery Norris Sr. on April 12, 1942, in Mantee. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2002. She loved her dog, Tiger.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Minister John Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara N. Bryan (Tommy) of West Point and Melba N. Hollingsworth (Randy) of Caledonia; two sons, Samuel T. Norris (Brenda) of Tupelo and Tommy Norris Jr. (Ann Williams) of West Point; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Hurst Weems of West Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lucille Norris; and six brothers, Cleveland Hurst, Jimmy Hurst, Wade Hurst, Pete Hurst, George Hurst and Hamp Hurst.
