Joyce Brown
AMORY – Joyce Pennington Brown, 89, died on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Oak Tree Plantation, Amory. Born on July 2, 1923, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Emit R. and Vedda Tubb Pennington.
Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1941. On Jan. 10, 1942, she married Maither Brown. Mrs. Brown was co-owner of Jo-Mil Pastry Shoppe in Amory from 1968-1984, where cake decorating was her specialty. Cherishing her church, she and her husband were charter members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. A loving and sweet lady who cared for everyone, Mrs. Brown’s favorite things in life were her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and pets, especially her Boston terrier, Katie Bell. A wonderful cook, she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, particularly during the holidays. Very competitive when playing cards, Mrs. Brown loved Canasta and was a member of the same Canasta Club for over 50 years. She was an avid Bridge player, competing and winning many tournaments in North Mississippi.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn McKenzie (Wayne), Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Dorinda Miller (Lee), Amory; grandchildren, Warren McKenzie (Jamie) and Melanie McKenzie Webster (Scott); great-grandchildren, Blaine and Callie Joyce McKenzie; and Wilson, Wyatt and Wade Webster; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, John David McKenzie; and brothers, Erie, Clyde, Okla, Candler, Jessie and Stanley Pennington.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Sisk and the Rev. Glyn Wiygul officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Thompson, Doyle Harris, Skip Miles, Thomas Griffith, Blaine McKenzie, Wyatt Webster, Doug Pennington and Wade Webster. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Brown, Carol and Jerry Williams, Hal Rogers, Wanda and Larry Rorie, Otis Cowan and James Burrow.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leon Berry
PONTOTOC – Leon “Bone” Berry, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson after a lengthy illness. A native of Pontotoc, he was the son of the late Arthur Berry and Rosie Lee Berry. He was a friend to everyone. He loved fishing, hunting and working on cars.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home. The Rev. Conway Goree will officiate. Burial will be in Golden Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ophelia Scott Berry; one daughter, Angelese Berry of Pontotoc; three sons, Randy (Yvonne) Berry, Rodney (Patsy) Berry and Channey Berry, all of Pontotoc; three sisters, Zelda Ford, Rebecca Berry and Shirley Berry, all of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nine brothers, Willie Berry, Lambert Berry, Herman Berry and Mitchell Berry, all of Grand Rapids, Mich., Samuelk Berry, Robert Berry, Herbert Berry, Arzell Berry and Jeffrey Berry, all of Pontotoc; stepmother, Sallie Berry of Grand Rapids, Mich.; mother-in-law, Zona Scott of Pontotoc; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two special friends, William “Sonny” Scott and Wanda Berry.
He was preceded in death by one son, Leon Jr.; four brothers, Mae Arthur Berry, Jimmy Berry, Rickey Berry and Calvin Splunge; and one sister, Ethel Mae Pegues.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dannie Little
VICKSBURG – Dannie Little, 91, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Vicksburg. She was a lifelong resident of the Zion community and a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Nina Tomlinson (Bill) of Vicksburg; one granddaughter, Jessie Humble (Billy) of Dallas, Texas; and a grandson, Will Tomlinson (Katy) of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Susie McGregor; her husband, Edward A. Little; a son, Charles M. Little; and 10 siblings.

Franklin Turner
MANTACHIE – Franklin D. Turner, 76, formerly of Mantachie, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at his home in Fulton. He was born Nov. 6, 1936, to Marvin Leonard Turner and Mary Belle Roberts Turner. He was a member of Tombigbee Baptist Church and attended Zion Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was retired from Day-Brite Lighting, where he worked for 36 years. He enjoyed fishing.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with the Rev. Royce Hawkins officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandi Turner of Oxford and Chrissy Anderson (Jeff) of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two sons, Frankie Dale Turner and Jon Turner, both of Fulton ; one brother, William “Bill” Turner (Joyce) of the Eggville community; three sisters, Marvinell Buse (Fred) of Guntown, Frances Smothers (Charles) and Robbie Lynn Brazil, both of Mantachie; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany Collum (Seth), Bethany Wilemon (Matt), Alexx Neal, Mitch Turner (Amanda), Tyler Turner, Megan Turner, Abbigayle Anderson, Alyssa Anderson, Brantley-Claire Anderson and Taylor Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Tyson Neal, Gunner Collum, Liza Neal and Dallon Turner; and a special friend, Bobbie Nell Jamerson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Brooks Turner; four brothers, Leonard, Paul, Gilbert and Larry Wade Turner; and his parents.

Anthony Sykes
TUPELO – Anthony Earl Sykes, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was the son of Earlene Bowdry and the late Mickey Sykes. He was a member of Whitehill M.B. Church in Tupelo. He graduated from Saltillo High School and attended Mississippi State University in Starkville for three years. He was employed by Acco in Booneville for eight years.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitehill M.B. Church in Tupelo with the Rev. Jeffrey Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the Porter Memorial Garden in Tupelo. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his mother, Earlene Bowdry Gardner of Guntown; one sister, Loura Ann Bowdry of Guntown; two brothers, Johnny W. Bowdry of Guntown and Keith (LaKeisha) Bowdry of Tupelo; a special friend, Deszama D. Hampton of Tupelo; three uncles, Earvin (Mary) Bowdry, Booker Bowdry, and J.C. (MaeDell) Bowdry; four aunts, Ester (Benny) Brown, Ada Mae Bowdry, Earsie (William) Agnew and Dorothy Bowdry; and a host nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Earvin and Mollie Bowdry.

LOUISVILLE – Wade Fuller Heath, 82, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville.

ECRU – Larry Scott Treadaway, 48, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Lafayette County. He was born March 31, 1964, in Memphis to Larry Treadaway and Linda Treadaway. He was a furniture worker before becoming disabled. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with the Rev. Jonathan Baker and the Rev. Johnny Rakestraw officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Treadaway of Ecru; his parents, Larry and Linda Treadaway of Blue Springs; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Holcomb of Thaxton; two sons, Craig Treadaway (Katherine) of Blue Springs and Joe Treadaway (Paige) of New Albany; a stepson, Chad Holcomb (Sarah) of Thaxton; two brothers, Dan Treadaway (Angie) of Pontotoc and Jason Treadaway of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Presley McMillen, Coltan Flores, Aubrey Holcomb, Emma Flores, Braden Treadaway, Jude Holcomb, Kathryn Grace Treadaway and Sawyer Treadaway; and his paternal grandmother, Grace Martin.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Cary Treadaway, and his maternal grandparents, Murry and Annie Benefield.

Robert F. Cockrell
CEDAR BLUFF – Robert Franklin Cockrell, 87, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. He was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Clay County to Fannie Turnage and Frank Cockrell. He retired from Weyerhaeuser of Jackson in 1986. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as a hospital corpsman during World War II. He married Bonnie Tisdale Cockrell on Sept. 10, 1948, in Starkville.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Bro. Lee Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Cairo Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Tisdale Cockrell of Cedar Bluff; two sons, Allen C. Cockrell of Orange, Texas, and Roger K. Cockrell (Anna Lisa Jabour) of Falls Church, Va.; one granddaughter, Melissa Maree Cockrell of Falls Church, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Larry Cockrell; four sisters, Catherine C. Fitzgerald, Sara C. Hardin, Mary Frances Cockrell and Ruby C. McGee; and his parents.

ECRU – Ginger Chism Fryar, 34, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. She was born May 6, 1978. She graduated from North Pontotoc High School and attended Ecru Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and wonderful daughter, and she loved her horses.

BALDWYN – Margaret Gray, 86, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at her residence. She was a longtime member of East Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturiing. She enjoyed working puzzle books and spending time with her family, all her grandchildren and her church family.

ATLANTA – Lawrence Shamley, 24, formerly of Holly Springs, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in Atlanta.

Antonia Brown

Linda Droke
CORINTH – Linda Lee Mauldin Droke died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at her home. She was born Sept. 1, 1945, to Dr. Irvin and Elise Catron Mauldin. She was a graduate of Corinth High School and Mississippi University for Women and did graduate work at University of Mississippi. She was a former teacher in the Corinth School District and McNairy County Schools. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and on the missions committee, and as an officer of the United Methodist Women. She was a Girl Scout leader, active in parent/teacher organizations and a life member of Corinth Junior Auxiliary.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Prentiss Gordon officiating. Burial will be in the Henry Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Clint Droke of Corinth; daughters, Christy Droke White (Roderick) of Birmingham, Ala., Claire Droke Windsor (John) of Corinth; sister, Jacqueline Elise Mauldin of Corinth; and grandchildren, Caroline Elise White, Mary Clayton White and Grace Catron Windsor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Christine Droke.
Pallbearers will be Donny Kitchens, Johnny C. Spencer, Dr. Spencer Lee, Richard Parker, Russell Gibbs, Dr. Bill Jackson and Bill Dalton.

WALNUT – Bro. Glenn Autry Hudspeth, 57, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was born Dec. 18, 1955, to Joe Leslie and Cornell Autry Hudspeth in New Albany. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State University and a minister of music degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an IT manager at TCI Automotives in Ashland and a member of Tiplersville Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Baptist Church with Bro. Thomas Magers and Dr. Gerald Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Simpson
TUPELO – Mary Jeanette Copeland Simpson, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Baldwyn to Sam and Sally Mae Nichols Copeland. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, she served her country during World War II from 1944-1945. Following the war, she lived in Memphis for many years, working for the Veterans Administration Hospital as a medical secretary. She lived in the Lee County area for more than 30 years and was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Henry Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Michael Edward Simpson (Terri) of Griffin, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Christian and Elizabeth Lindley, both of Shannon; one brother, Robert Copeland of Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Patrick Simpson (Kimberly) of Ashland, Joan Kuykendall (Kenneth) of Thaxton and Kathleen Simpson of Atlanta.

VERONA – William Timothy “Tim” Wells, 50, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his home in Carr Acres. He was born Dec. 15, 1962, to Chalmus Ray Wells and Rosa Lee Holloway Wells. He worked for Hancock Fabrics as warehouse supervisor. He was a member of Lee Acres Church of Christ. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his nieces and nephews.

VARDAMAN – Bro. Dale Easley, 66, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. He was born May 22, 1946, in Calhoun County. He was a graduate of Calhoun City High School, Mississippi College and New Orleans Theological Seminary. He was blessed by God with a special gift of shepherding and he always knew the right thing to say. He enjoyed quail hunting and woodworking. Always thrifty, he handcrafted cedar cribs for his grandchildren and biodiesel to fuel his vehicles. He was devoted to his family, his grandchildren, his community and his ministry.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vardaman High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Jeff Gilder and the Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in the Old Bethany Cemetery next to New Hope Church in Webster County. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Douglas Mallory Easley of Vardaman; his daughters, Joan Hughes, Janice (Jeff) Sandoval and Johanna (Eric) Van Iderstine; his grandchildren, Kelson and Bryce Hughes, Dawn, Andrew, Reagan, James and Nathan Dal Van Iderstine; two brothers, Larry (Barbara) Easley of Jackson and Lee (Dorothy) Easley of Calhoun City; one sister, Yvonne Easley Vance of Water Valley; and a sister-in-law, Diane Easley of Calhoun City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Lee Easley Sr. and Frances Vernon Chandler Easley, and a brother, Jessie Price Easley.
Pallbearers will be Robert Easley, Ronnie Easley, Melvin R. “Pork Chop” Falkner, Jimmy Mawk, Joe Smith, Billy Paul Spencer and Tony Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons; John Jasper Adams, Danny Bailey, Jim Blue, James M. Casey, Hubert Gann, Pete Gibson, Rodney Gillespie, Bill Gore, Jeff Hamilton, Jim Fred Hamilton, Jerry Hamilton, Brent Harrell, Bob Hollingsworth, Charles Hollis, Franklin Hollis, M.B. Martin, Jimmy Don McGreger, Mike Mitchell, Ray Sutherland, Kenny Tallent, DeWyane Winter and Randle Wright.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the Vardaman First Baptist Church in Vardaman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the children and youth programs at Vardaman First Baptist Church.
