Doug LaPrade
TUPELO – Raymond Douglas LaPrade, 86, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Tupelo Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo, where he had briefly resided. A native of the Longview community of Pontotoc County, he was born on June 25, 1926, to John Cleveland and Verna Bell Crane LaPrade. He attended Longview Schools for 11 years and graduated from Pontotoc High School. He married Sarah Frances Ashcraft in Columbus on Dec. 22, 1957. They made their home in Jackson from 1958 – 2008 when they moved to Tupelo. He was a valued and loyal employee of Mississippi Industries for the Blind for over 30 years, retiring in 1986 as shipping clerk. Being visually impaired himself, he was active most of his life advocating for the blind and visually impaired around Mississippi and the Mid-South particularly through his association with Mississippi Council for the Blind. He was a longtime member of the Jackson Metropolitan Lion’s Club and the Tupelo Evening Lion’s, having assisted in the charter of both. His hobbies included bowling and word search puzzles. He was a longtime member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Jackson and in Tupelo was active in Wildwood Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Lewis Bridges and Bro. Thomas Littlejohn officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time only on Wednesday. A graveside committal service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Natchez Trace Memorial Gardens in Madison with Bro. Ty Pigott and Bro. Glen Shows officiating. Holland Funeral Directors is assisting the family.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Ashcraft LaPrade, and their son, Brian LaPrade, both of Tupelo; three sisters, Eva Littlejohn of Pontotoc, Frances Barlow (Harold) of Hazelhurst and Peggy Maddox of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Robbie LaPrade of Pontotoc.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne LaPrade.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Wildwood Baptist Church.

Eva Foster
NEW ALBANY – Eva Jourdan Foster, 97, formerly of Memphis, passed away Sunday, July 8, 201, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. She was born in Iuka and was a retiree of Sears, Roebuck and Co. Mrs. Foster had a gentle, loving spirit and enjoyed life to its fullest. She will be missed, was loved and respected by many who would acknowledge that their life was blessed to have known her as their friend. Her love and concern for her friends made each one feel they were very special. Mrs. Foster was known for her scrumptious fried chicken, vegetable dishes, homemade rolls and wonderful cakes and pies. She was instrumental in organizing the Sears Retiree Club where she was an officer for many years and was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; two brothers, Lyman and Dayton Jourdan; one sister, Reba Mott; and a nephew, Jerry Jourdan.
She is survived by one nephew, Steve Jourdan; and her caregivers, Bill and Joan Hix.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Memorial Park Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Parker
MATHISTON – James Howard Parker, 75, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Aug. 4, 1936, in Calhoun County. He was a retired supervisor for Southwire in Starkville and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Mathiston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. Eddie Brock and the Rev. Steve Griffin officiating. Burial will be in New Gauley Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hallum Parker of Mathiston; daughters, Brenda (Richard) Narmore of Byhalia and Patricia Thomas of Maben; son, Keith (Teresa) Parker of Mathiston; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Parker and Gladys Allred Parker.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tay Elliott
NEW ALBANY – Tainarien Mykale “Tay” Elliott, 24, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at Panama City Beach, Fla. He was born Oct. 21, 1987, to Leroy Waldrop and Mia Elliott in New Albany. He was employed at Fusion Furniture in Ecru. He graduated from New Albany High School, Class of 2006, where he enjoyed several successful football seasons. He attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he played football for one season.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Albany High School with the Rev. Patrick Washington and Bishop Albert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Leroy (Stephanie) Waldrop and Mia Elliott of New Albany; one brother, Kalen Elliott of Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Fla.; a half brother, Joshua Spears; two stepbrothers, Devon and Zechariah Eades; his grandparents, Levonia Elliott, Lanell (Homer) Ferrell, Amos (Alice) Williams; one son, Kylen Elliott; a very special friend, Shuna Westmoreland, all of New Albany; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eddie Elliott, and a brother, Kieran Garner.

Terry Russell
COLUMBUS – Roger Terry Russell, 59, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. He was born June 23, 1953, in Pontotoc to Mamie Ruth Alred Russell of Pontotoc and the late Graham Rodger Russell. He was a resident of Lowndes County for 45 years. He attended Point of Grace Church of Columbus, Miss., and was of the Baptist faith. Before retiring in 2010 he was self-employed with Russell Distributing in route sales.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus with Bro. Shane Cruse officiating. Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy Sullivan Russell of Columbus; a daughter, Leslie Russell (Jeremy) West of Hamilton; a son, John Tyler Russell of Columbus; a sister, Kay Russell (Gary) McDonald of Pontotoc; brothers, Jackie Neal (Kathie) Russell and Graham Rodger “Butch” Russell, both of Pontotoc; two grandchildren, Katelyn Brooke and Kenley Claire West of Hamilton.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Carol Russell.
Pallbearers will be Russ McDonald, Drew McDonald, Trent Russell, Kevin Taggert, Eric Ingle and Drew Whitten.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elisabeth Frost
BALDWYN – Elisabeth “Libby” Frost, 70, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born April 22, 1942, to Leonard and Lillian Macgruda. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Guntown and a retired clerk for R.L. Estes in Tupelo. She enjoyed cross stitching, reading and extending birthday greetings to family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Robbins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Billy Frost of Baldwyn; one daughter, Melanie Frost of Amory; one son, Robert Frost of Baldwyn; a sister, Lillian Ann Johnson (Mark) of North Carolina; a brother, Jube Macgruda of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Brandon Frost (Brittney), Misty Chapman (Corey) and Blake Frost; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tanner, Tucker and Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lou Owen; and a brother, Nathan White.

Margie Hatfield
BOONEVILLE – Margie T. “Meme” Hatfield, 80, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Dec, 16, 1931, in Cherokee, Ala. She was a member of Osborne Creek Baptist Church. She retired from General Electric in Chicago, and then worked at Red Kap Industries in West Point. She worked at the Grace Shop in Booneville in recent years. She enjoyed shopping, flowers, and most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jack Ezell officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Memorial Garden.
She is survived by a son, Jim Hatfield of Booneville; two daughters, Martha George (Danny) of Booneville and Wanda Sanford (Robert) of Guntown; three brothers, Larry Trulove (Phyllis) of West Point, Junior Trulove (Okema) of Tupelo and Gary Trulove of Wyoming; two sisters, Runelle Davis of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Carolyn Gwathney (Wayne) of West Point; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Hatfield, on April 2, 2011; her parents, Cortez and Aretha Maxcy Trulove; and two sisters, Shirley Johnston and Kathleen Wagner.
Pallbearers are Jason Hatfield, Richie Sansone, Johnny George, Brad Jones, Vincent Vymola and Mike Coats.

Belinda Lewis
NEW SITE – Belinda Lewis, 62, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

Survivors are her husband of 44 years, Jimmy Lewis of New Site; two sons, David Shane Lewis (Ashley) and Danny Joe Lewis (Rhonda Smith), all of New Site; two brothers, Richard Aaron Haney and Tommy Lloyd Haney, both of Fairview; and seven grandchildren, Justin Corey Lewis, Dustin Joe Lewis, JoLiegh Brooke Lewis, Malachi Aaron Brandon, Hunter Shane Lewis, Eli Dawson Lewis and Blaine Stevie Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Armstead Gracie Haney and Altie Dees Haney; one brother, Bobby Earl Haney; and one sister, Patricia Fay Haney Pardue.

RIPLEY – Larry Daniel “L.B.” Bridges, 63, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Ripley. He was born Jan. 11, 1949, the 13th of 14 children born to Willis Phillip and Willie Mae Smith Bridges in Arkansas. He was owner and operator of Sardis Auto Service, retiring with 30 years of service. He was a Baptist.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Randy Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Ripley.
Survivors include one daughter, April Bridges, and two sons, Rodney Bridges and Tyler Bridges, all of Memphis; two brothers, Mack Bridges of Murphreesboro, Tenn., and Henry Bridges (Beverly) of Ripley; two sisters, Ruth Williams of Dickson, Tenn., and Inez Roberson of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lester, Palmer, Alton and James Bridges; five sisters, Mary Lee Bridges, Ruby Hocutt, Mildred Tipton, Ermie Crum and Beatrice Johnson.

Bobby Smith
RIPLEY – Robert Dalton “Bobby” Smith, 77, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Ripley. He was born Feb. 4, 1935, to Dalton Milton and Ruth Lee Smith in Ripley. He retired as owner and operator of Green Old Field Restaurant, a farmer and a logger. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with 13 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Bro. James Wells and Bro. Stacy McKee will officiate, and Crystal Graves will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Tippah Memorial Gardens in Ripley.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sanders Smith of Ripley; two daughters, Margaret Ann Smith and Myra Palmer (David), both of Ripley; four sons, Robert Keith Smith (Maritza) of Lintchicum, Md., Thomas Calvin Smith (Deborah) of Ripley, Lonnie Dale Smith (Liz) of Ripley and William Lee “Billy” Smith (Terri) of Baldwyn; 15 grandchildren, Sara and Tarl Escudero, Jerrica Smith, Josh Palmer, Crystal Graves (Scott), Anna Palmer, Heather Bolton (Caleb), Hope Smith, Rob Smith, Steve Smith, Alex Smith, Callie Smith, Dalton Smith, Austin Smith, Jordan Lee Smith; two great-grandchildren, Coby Escudero and Jenna Graves; one sister, Leola Smith Lang of Ripley.

IUKA – Ruby E. Robinson, 77, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at her residence. She was a native of Tishomingo County. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ at Dennis.

Survivors are a son, Mike Ables (Joyce) of Belmont; a granddaughter, Candace Martin (Justin) of Belmont; two great-granddaughters, Kinsley Martin and Kylee Martin; two sisters, Lalla Ryan and Lucille Sparks, both of Belmont; and two brothers, Roy “Buck” Garrett of San Antonio, Texas, and Don Garrett of Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larres Robinson; her parents, Curtis Mansell Garrett and Annie Wilson Garrett; and two brothers, Kenneth Garrett and Coy “Tom” Garrett.

FORREST CITY, Ark. – Helin Imogene Cowley-Miller, 80, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Crittenden Regional Hospital in West Memphis, Ark. She was born April 15, 1932, in Itawamba County, the daughter of Jim and Alveretta Cowley. She lived most of her life in St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Forrest City, Ark.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Evergreen. Burial will be in Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her sister and caregiver, Laura Love of Forrest City, Ark.; a sister, Helen Chatman, and a brother, Allen Cowley, of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Miller, and her parents.
