Jimmy Denton
TUPELO – Jimmy Doyle Denton, 78, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at his residence in Tupelo. A New Albany native, he was born April 24, 1935, to James Curry and Loudale Garrison Denton. He was in the trucking industry all his life. He enjoyed his horses. He loved his family and cherished time spent with them. He attended Open Door Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Scotty Crawson officiating and Ken Shaw assisting. Burial will be in Vista Cemetery in New Albany.
Survivors include his special companion, Bonnie Berry of Tupelo; two sons, Evan Denton (Balinda) of Myrtle and Todd Jordan (Christy) of Tupelo; five daughters, Beverly Reans (Mike) of Grenada, Laurie Norman (Pat) of New Albany, Mary Beth Vinson (Steve) of Tupelo, Cindy Hughes (Greg) of Saltillo and Beth Smithey (Tracy) of Pontotoc; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fannie Furnise of Rena Lara, Linda Murrah Patterson of New Albany and Jamie Tate of Ecru; and two brothers, Robert and Billy Wayne Denton of Ecru.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie Denton; and his stepmother, Opal Denton.
Pallbearers will be Peyton, Will and Glenn Denton, Caleb Yates, Todd Jordan and Hunter Hughes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Felisidad Ibarra-Mendoza
OKOLONA – Felisidad Ibarra-Mendoza, 78, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Shearer-Richardson Memorial Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born in Weslaco, Texas, on Nov. 20, 1934, to Pedro and Santos Marroquin Ibarra. She worked for Motorola Inc. in quality control. She was a volunteer at One of A Kind Thrift Store, and enjoyed making quilts and sewing for her family. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Alice Chavez (Rito) of Okolona and Melissa Annette Gonzalez of Saginaw, Texas; one sister, Ramona Rios (Juan) of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in law, Corina Ybarra of Katy, Texas, and Panchita Ybarra of Holland, Mich.; four grandchildren, Sam Garcia, Lupe Carrillo Chavez, Mariah Kurtz and Miranda Hummer; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Santos Ybarra; four brothers, Trinidad Ybarra, Juan Ybarra, Guadalupe Ybarra and Noe Ybarra; and one sister, Maria Silva.

KOSSUTH – Margaret Louise Mincey, 83, died Friday, July 12, 2013, in Kossuth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, July 14, at Lone Oak Baptist Church. Private burial will be Monday at Corinth National Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of arrangements.

ECRU – Jimmy Thad “Pap” Davis, 66, died Friday, July 12, 2013, in Texas. He was born July 27, 1946, in Pontotoc to Mattie Elizabeth Stubblefield Davis and the late Samuel Dwight Davis. He was a truck driver.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Martin Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Russell, Bro. Andy Russell and Bro. Lannie Burchfield officiating. Burial will be in Ecru City Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Davis; a daughter, Kim Chism (Danny), and a son, Jimmy Lane Davis (Sandy), both of Ecru; a sister, Carolyn Simmons (Dwight) of Chesterville; six grandchildren, Tiffany Chism Raines (John), Samantha Chism Potts (Jay), Brooklyn Conlee, Taylor Lane “Cotton” Davis (Amber), Preston Jack Davis and Elizabeth Claire Davis; and five great-grandchildren, Mattie Beth, Jack Davis, Raylee Ann “Fat Baby,” Maggie Mae and Mason Layne.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Billy Thad Davis.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hall, Purvis Medcafe, Scott Brownlee, Clayboy Warren, Gene Greer, Preston Davis, Taylor Davis and Dewayne Crump. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mississippi Pony Pullers and members of Owner/Operators Independent Drivers Association.

Jeffrey Franks
SALTILLO – Jeffrey Allen “Jeff” Franks, 46, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at his residence. A native of Zion, Ill., he was born June 26, 1967, to Aruthur V. and Barbara Funderburk Franks. He lived most of his life in Saltillo. He loved to tinker, do woodworking and carpentry work.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Caleb Franks and Caden Allen Franks, both of Okolona; the mother of his children, Cindy Lamb of Okolona; three sisters, Margie Franks Pennington (David) of Saltillo, Rita Franks Chamblee (Tommy) of Fulton and Nina Franks Johnson (Mitch) of Lutz, Fla.; one brother, Aruthur Eugene “Gene” Franks of Peppertown; his mother, Barbara Franks Morton of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aruthur V. Franks; his stepfather, Quin Morton; one brother, Lonnie Keith Franks; and one brother-in-law, David Tucker.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Kent, Tommy Chamblee, Mitch Johnson and his nephews, Zac Tucker, Neal Tucker, Chris Underwood and Brian Johnson.

MANTACHIE – Priscilla Marie Steele, 37, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013. She was born Nov. 21, 1975, to Eddie Steele and Pam Moore Thornton.

She is survived by her sons, Ty Steele and Devin Buchanan of Mantachie; her mother, Pam (Troy) Thornton of Mantachie; her father, Eddie Steele of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Jessica (Chris) Foster and Taylor Thornton of Mantachie, and Lacy Steele of St. Petersburg; brother, Chase Steele of St. Petersburg; grandmothers, Shirley Moore (Lawson) Brown and Ann Thornton, both of Mantachie; and nephews, Payton Bryant and Ethan Foster of Mantachie.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Ancil Moore, Roger Thornton, Faye Steele and Earl Steele.

BRUCE – Myrl Poynor Barfield, 87, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville. She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Banner. She was a homemaker, a factory worker and a restaurant owner. She was a member of Lantrip Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, July 14, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. The Rev. Robert Earl Alexander will officiate, and the Rev. Rex Wilburn will assist. Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery.
She is survived by four children, Tommy Barfield (Olga) of LaGrange, Ga., Wayne Barfield (Dianne) of Gainesville, Fla., Danny Barfield (Deborah) of Cleveland and Carolyn Nettles (Bill) of Dry Prong, La.;one sister, Bobbie Rooker of Okolona; two brothers, Bedford “Pete” Poynor and Charles Poynor, both of Bruce; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Knox Barfield; her parents, Nathaniel Davis Poynor and Lila Pearl Harrison Poynor; three sisters, Lois Crutchfield, Shirley Stone and Reba Barefield; and three brothers, Ula Poynor, Laburn Poynor and Carl Poynor.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Barfield, Kyle Barfield, Dobbie Poynor, Bill Wilburn, Bradley Wilburn and Kent Wilburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Johnson, and Johnny Weeks.
