Travis Brock
AMORY – Travis Odell “Hubcap” Brock, 63, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at his home. Born Dec. 12, 1949, in Amory, he was a son of Evelyn Majors Brock and the late Earl Brock. He attended Amory schools and was a member of Cason Baptist Church. Before his retirement, he worked in the garment plant and for Days Security. Guided by his faith in God, much of his time was spent with family and friends. He enjoyed dealing in old cars and buying and selling hubcaps.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Terry Paul Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Brock of Amory; one sister, Diane Tidwell (Bobby) of Amory; one brother, Curtis Brock of Amory; nephews, Bobby Joe Tidwell, Brad Tidwell (Emily) and Scott Tidwell (Nikki); great-nephews, Stacy Patterson, Bailey Doolittle, Isaiah Tidwell, Parker Tidwell and Holden Patterson; and special friends, Larry and Roberta Thornsberry, and Robert and Sharon Odom.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Pallbearers will be Charles Plunkett, Kenny Gilmore, Bobby Joe Tidwell, Brad Tidwell, Scott Tidwell and Stacy Patterson.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today and will continue until service time Tuesday.

Johnnie Hale
SOUTHAVEN – Johnnie K. Hale, 80, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. He was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Hurricane. He was a retired truck driver, an Army veteran, a former school bus driver for DeSoto County Schools and a former baseball coach.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lonnie Hale of Southaven; two sons, Donnie Hale and Ronnie Hale (Dolly Cox), all of Southaven; two daughters, Debbie Edwards (Bert) of Franklin, Tenn., and Renee Harrison (Dwayne) of Southaven; two brothers, James Hale (Peggy) of Southaven and Lance Hale (Sue) of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Daura Faye Hale of Hurricane; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Jason), Nikki (John), Ashley, Brandi (Brian), Brittany, Anthony, Brandon and Robbie (Allyssa); and 10 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Bryce, Braydon, Makenzie, Christopher, Ashlan, Rianna, Katie, Jayden and Nicholas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.O. and Ila Pearl Hale; one brother, Duane Hale; and one sister, Annie Laura Hale.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Oakdale Baptist Church at Hurricane. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Twin Oaks Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from noon to service time Wednesday at the church.

The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Eva Ivy
NEW ALBANY – Eva Dean Ivy, 90, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley. She was born May 23, 1923, in Benton County to Brian S. Potts and Annie Kate Vernor Potts. She was a retired cafeteria worker for Union County General Hospital and West Union School. When younger, she enjoyed cooking and lately, watching television and listening to music.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at United Funeral Service in New Albany with the Rev. Thomas Chandler and the Rev. Joe Epting officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.

She is survived by a son, Robert Sterling Lee (Jackie) of Coffeeville; one grandson, Robert Sterling Lee Jr. (Ashley) of Oxford; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Lee of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Thomas Ivy; and two brothers, Kyle Potts and Fred Potts.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Frankie Keeton
TREMONT – Frankie E. Keeton, 65, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. He was born July 12, 1948, in Tremont to Archie E. and Helen Robison Keeton. He was a heavy equipment operator for R&S Gravel. He previously served as alderman for the town of Tremont. He enjoyed antique cars, riding motorcycles, going to car shows and doing mechanical work.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today, July 15, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his sister, Juda McKinney, of Rienzi; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Keeton, on Sept. 7, 2010; two sisters, Linda Akers and Traci Keeton; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Barry McKinney, Jerry Grady, Joe Robison, Donald Yielding, Claude Keeton and Craig McKinney.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Johnny Beavers
RIPLEY – John Graylon “Doley” Beavers, 63, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at his residence in Ripley. He was born Jan. 27, 1950, to Robert Joseph and Arizona Idell Bryant Beavers. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He was a retired roofer and a member of the Roofers Union.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, July 15, at Unity Baptist Church with Bro. Ronnie Barefield officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim Chambers of Chicago and Misty Beavers of Ripley; five sisters, Ruby Bridges, Martha Smith (Randy), Tina Brady and Judy Jones, all of Ripley, and Louise Kelly of Falkner; one brother, Willie “Bill” Beavers (Peggy) of Lebanon, Tenn.; one grandchild, Logan Chambers of Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Grace Beavers and Helen Ruth Beavers, both of Ripley; one brother-in-law, John L. Clemmer of Falkner; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Vermillion Beavers; his parents; one sister, Peggy Clemmer; and three brothers, Harmon Beavers, Dennis Beavers and James Bob Beavers.
Pallbearers will be Charles Beavers, Randle Beavers, Howell Brady, Kerry Johnson, Russell Clemmer, Roger Wood and Jeffery Beavers. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Beavers, Gene Carter, J.D. Richardson, L.C. Windham, Robert Dunavant, William Henry Bates, Phillip Bates and Bo Bates.

Val Christensen
SMITHVILLE – Val Richard Christensen, 63, died on Friday, July 12, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born Jan. 21, 1950, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Val D. and Dorothy Louise Smoke Christensen. He married Renee Mathews. Before his retirement, he worked as an iron worker and then later helping his son with Scott’s Lawn Care. A family man, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles. He attended First Pentecostal Church in Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; and second father, Jack Thomas Stanford.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Chism (Nell) of Saltillo; her grandchildren, Stephanie Turner (Tim) of Saltillo, Stephen Chism (Misty) of Wheeler; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Conway of Saltillo, Kevin Conway (Amy) of Saltillo; great-grandchildren, Brandy Byrd Young (Brandon), Brandon Byrd, Haylee Hughes and Hayden Chism; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sue Chism of Guntown; and several nieces and nephews.

OXFORD – Milton Lavert Musick, 88, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley. Born in Denmark, Miss., he was a sergeant in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1943. He worked hard his entire life but looked forward to spending his free time outdoors, often hunting and fishing. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, he enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted husband and father.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ard officiating. Burial will follow in Cambridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Tabor Musick of Oxford; two daughters, Linda Allgood (Jimmy) of Oxford and Brenda Kilgore (Leonard) of Water Valley; one sister, Laverne Dillard of Oxford; one brother, Everett Musick of Batesville; and three grandchildren, Angie Rankin, Lauren Kilgore and Georgia Kilgore.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathon Kilgore, and his parents, Emmett and Ethel Mae Welch Musick.
