John Haynie
ABBEVILLE – John Cecil Haynie, 82, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at The Med in Memphis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Maudie Hamlin
TUSCUMBIA, Ala. – Maudie Hamlin, 101, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Keller Landing Care in Tuscumbia, Ala.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corinthian Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Corinthian Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
Shelby Burges
CEDAR BLUFF – Shelby Jean Burges, 73, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Shelby Jean Burges was born March 15, 1938, in Pine Bluff to Maudie Marie Vaughn and Raymond Forrester. She was a homemaker, and she was of the Baptist faith. Shelby Jean Burges was married to Hubert Eugene Burges, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1986.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.R. Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery in Montpelier. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, James William Thompson (Beverly) of Cedar Bluff and Thomas Daniel Thompson (Wanda) of Citronelle, Ala.; a stepson, Rusty Burges (Joey) of Houston; and a stepdaughter, Myra Turner (Rayford) of Columbus, Texas; six grandchildren; Natalie Carol Thompson, Tyler Taylor, Adam Burges, John Burges, Jorden Burges and Greg Turner; three great-grandchildren, Josh Thompson, Mike Thompson and David Nicholson Jr.; her children’s father, John Quitman Thompson of Citronelle, Ala.; one sister, Una Pearl Scoggins of Starkville; one brother, George Linroy Forrester of Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Carroll Thompson on Aug. 31, 1984; her twin brother, Eugene Forrester; and a special friend, Fred Turner.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Forrester, T.J. Bell, Joesph Bell, Jonathan Shurden, John Douglas and William Adam Burges.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Lee Douglas, Gary Scoggins, Michael McFalls and Randal Forrester.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Liddell
MYRTLE – Mary Velma Liddell, 92, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at Sunshine Inn in Myrtle. She was born Oct. 10, 1918, to Henry Cole and Mary Etta Swain Spencer.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. David Greer officiating. Additional services will be handled by Memphis Funeral Home. There will be no local visitation.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Catherine Skapura and Jean Liddell; three grandchildren, Tyler Jenkins (Rebecca), Tamara Quick (Scott) and Neal Skapura (Valerie Fong); seven great-grandchildren, Mary Alison Jenkins, Ellen Elizabeth Jenkins, Kennedy Jenkins Quick, Katherine Jane Quick, Lucas Scott Quick, Olivia Brooke Quick and Brennan Nicole Quick; and one sister-in-law, Henrietta Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Stewart Liddell; one daughter, Betty Ruth Droke; one grandson, John Robert Skapura; and four brothers, Henry Lewis Spencer, Ed Wells Spencer, Ben Gray Spencer and Newt Moss Spencer.

James Brantley
WEST POINT – James D. “Jay” Brantley, 65, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. James David Brantley was born June 10, 1946, in Kosciusko to Cora Faye Cupit and J.B. Brantley. He was a truck driver for Bryan Foods for 37 years and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. James D. “Jay” Brantley married Beth Elaine Millsaps Brantley on July 23, 1967, at Calvary Baptist Church in West Point. He had attended Mississippi State University and Holmes Junior College.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the the Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff Cumberand Presbyterian Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Beth Millsaps Brantley of West Point; two daughters, D’Juana Cummings (Mike) of New Hope and Stacey Dengler (Chuck) of Hattiesburg; two sons, Ray Brantley (Cobe) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Lawrence Brantley of West Point; seven grandchildren, Aaron Cummings, Beth Ann Cummings, McKinzie Cummings, Charles Dengler, Kadin Dengler, Maddox Brantley and Lynn Dengler; and one sister, Beverly Shields (John) of West Point.
Pallbearers will be Ed McDonald, Tom Jack Williams, Ray Brantley, Lawrence Brantley, Aaron Cummings and Chuck Dingler.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Pearson, A.R. Parks, Elbert Smith, Willie Hightower, George Bailey, Trenton Stockton, Buck Harmon, Jack Danovosky, Cleophous Witherspoon, the staff of West Point Ambulance Service and the staff at University of Alabama Medical Center.

PONTOTOC – Paul Almond Swanson, 58, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of Pontotoc Church of Christ. He loved spending time with family, eating and talking about the Lord. He also loved his chickens and his two dogs, Pete and JoJo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Gordon Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Pine Bluff Church of Christ Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lila Faye Turner Swanson; daughters, Lila Denise Swanson Webb (Scott), Marcy Dawn Swanson Brown (Rodney) and Paula Ann Swanson Bland (Jon); mother, Jewel Swanson; brothers, W.A. McCormick, Dan McCormick, David Swanson, Robert Swanson, John Swanson, Nathan Swanson, Ladell Swanson and Eugene Swanson; sisters, Nancy Swanson, Wandoleen Dotson, Powelette Swanson and Maxine Canerdy; and eight grandchildren, Katelyn Webb, Gavin Webb, Dalton Webb, Carson Webb, Emily Brown, Sara Beth Brown, Connor Bland and Alivia Bland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Powell Swanson.
Pallbearers will be Todd McCormick, Robbie Swanson, Josh Swanson, Wayne Houston, Bo Goodwin and Bart Ratliff.

Billy McNutt
NETTLETON – Billy Wayne McNutt, 57, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1954, in Lambert to Arles Wayne McNutt and Girtha Maybell McIntire Sandifer. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton, a disabled mechanic and a Veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He enjoyed going fishing, doing woodworking and being with his family.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tidale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Nettleton with the Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Jena JoAnn McNutt Brown (Gary C.) of Nettleton and Jessica Weynette McNutt Westmoreland (Earnest Sr.) of Tupelo; two sisters, Martha Elaine McNutt Guess and Frances Christine Sandifer Davis, both of Nettleton; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Wallace Elbert Sandifer; one sister, Beverly McNutt; and one brother, Elmer Sandifer.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.

W.C. Hinton
OKOLONA – W.C. Hinton, 92, longtime Okolona resident and recent resident of the Panama City, Fla., area, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Sims Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Springfield, Fla., after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Gladys Hinton and father of Pat Hinton Commander and the late Alice Faye Hinton Flynn.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Okolona, with military honors. Rev. H.B. Miller and Rev. Bill Harrison will officiate. Private burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
