Mae White
EUPORA – Mae White, 92, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eupora First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the West Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Elmer Butler
BALDWYN – Elmer R. Butler, 93, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Rutledge
OLIVE BRANCH – Robert G. Rutledge died Monday, July 27, 2009, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 21, 1946, to Plez Garfield and Maggie Lou Rutledge of the Pinedale community of Union County. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Olive Branch. He was retired from A.S. Barbaro and Sons of Memphis. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, old movies and spending time with family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Funeral Service in New Albany. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinedale.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Tonya (Terry) Langley; a son, Brian (Kimberly) Rutledge; a stepdaughter, Rebecca (Philip) Morgan; four grandchildren, Cheyenne, Brandon, Kaira and Jordan; two sisters, Shirley Killough of Blue Springs and Mable (Terry) Jurjevich of Atlanta; two brothers, Roy (Terah) Rutledge of Winona and Jerry Rutledge of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Rutledge, on July 27, 1999.
Pallbearers will be Eddie and Terry Killough, Philip Morgan, and other members of Robert’s faith community.
Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Alice Montgomery
PHEBA – Alice L. Montgomery, 58, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Heart to Heart Hospice. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Belle Memorial Funeral Home.
Gary Whitaker
HOLLY SPRINGS – Gary Lynn Whitaker, 42, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 1, 1967, in Memphis to Claude Whitaker Jr. and Lottie Gill Whitaker. He was a groundskeeper for Kirkwood Golf Course. He was a Baptist.
No services are set at this time. Holly Springs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Carlisle Whitaker of Holly Springs; his mother, Lottie Whitaker of Holly Springs; one son, Bubba Sullivan of Cherry Valley, Ark.; two daughters, Amber Whitaker and Chassity Whitaker, both of Holly Springs; one brother, Paul Whitaker of Lake Cormorant; and two sisters, Darlene Bland of Collinsville, Ill., and Nina Kellon of Horn Lake.

Myra Hancock
HOUSTON – Myra Etta Rhodes Hancock died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Floy Dyer Manor after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1925, to Charles Lee Rhodes and Lola Estelle Evans Rhodes in Houston. She was the widow of James Edwin Hancock. She was retired from Houston Ceramic Tile and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston and a former member of the Trace Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Heeringa officiating. Burial will be at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston.
Survivors include three sons, Edwin Hancock and his wife, Wanda, of Woodland, Jake Hancock of Pickwick, Tenn., and Bob Hancock and his wife, Divinia, of Houston; seven grandchildren, Gary Hancock and his wife, Missy, of Houston, Cindy Cockell and her husband, John Paul, of Houston, Suzanne Moore and her husband, Dewitt, of Houlka, Allyson Moore and her husband, Darrell, of Tupelo, Mark Hancock and his wife, Nikki, of Houlka, and Anthony Hancock and his wife, Mallory, of Houston; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Burgess of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Edwin Hancock, on Feb. 13, 1981; her daughter, Linda Ann Hollingsworth, on Feb. 24, 1987; her grandson, John Hancock, on March 1, 1991; her brothers, Bethard McKibben, Charles Rhodes, Johnny Rhodes, Cecil Rhodes and James Ed Rhodes; and her sisters, Esta Clark and Martha McKibben.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Harmon, Rick Huffman, John Fred Lancaster, Kirkham Dendy, Michael James and Rodney Griggs.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home in Houston.
Rev. Joe Royalty
PETAL – The Rev. Joe H. Burkett Royalty, 87, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Bedford Care Center. He was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Wiggins. He grew up in Bassfield, where he played basketball and graduated from Bassfield High School. He was also a graduate of Mississippi College. For 64 years he served in pastorates in both Mississippi and South Carolina. He also served as assistant to E.J. Daniels’ Christ for the World Evangelist Association. His evangelistic crusades carried him to South Africa, India, Brazil and Guatemala. His civic activities earned him many awards including: Star Teacher of the year at McClure Academy (1982-1983), Outstanding CASA Worker for Forrest County Youth Court (1995-1996), Volunteer of the Year for Forrest General Hospital and the 2000 Mississippi Ageless Heroes Award for community involvement in Petal.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg. Burial will follow in Prentiss City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Polk Royalty of Petal; a daughter, Sharron Post Royalty of Petal; a granddaughter, Stephanie Harrison of England; and a great-granddaughter, Emi Harrison of Petal.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar H. Royalty, and stepmother, Natalie Royalty; and his mother, Mattie Burkett, and stepfather, Guy Burkett.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.

NASHVILLE – Willard M. Snipes, 93, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the Bethany Center in Nashville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service of New Albany.
L.T. Gathings Sr.
WEST POINT – L.T. Gathings Sr. died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Services will be at noon Friday at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Prairie. Burial will follow in the Gathings Family Cemetery in Prairie. Carter Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Anthony Hadley
TUPELO – Anthony F. Hadley, 46, died in Tupelo.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at All Saints Episcopal Church in Tupelo. N.L. Jones and Son Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Christine Betts
TUPELO – Mary Christine Betts, 66, of the Indian Hills community, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church.

Hubert Barker Sr.
MYRTLE – Hubert “Sonny” Barker Sr., 78, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Graceland Health Care Center. He retired from J.I. Case Company in Racine, Wis., after 35 years and returned to Mississippi. He was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Charles Keys officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Beasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Hubert “Tootie” Barker Jr. (Linda) of New Albany, Brenda Joyce Barker of Racine, Wis., Diane Barker of Woodbridges, Va., Nathan Barker of Denver, Colo., Terry Barker (Diane) of Minneapolis, Minn., Roger Barker of Leeburg, Va., Gwen Pattillo (Tony) of Dale City, Va., Vernon “Bud” Barker (Shauna) of Racine, Wis., Patricia Barker of Chantilly, Va., and Jerry Barker of Chicago; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Friday.

VARDAMAN – Dorothy Ree Chandler died Friday, July 24, 2009, at her home in Vardaman.
Services will be Saturday at Midway M.B. Church in Vardaman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Carter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Wright
FALKNER – Walter Wilson “Jr.” Wright, 91, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his home in Falkner. He was a retired T.V. and appliance repairman with 48 years of service. He was a member of Falkner Baptist Church. He was a member of Falkner Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Stanley Huddleston and Bro. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will be in Falkner Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Graves Wright of Falkner; four daughters, Onita Wright, Nancy Wright and Beverly Wright, all of Falkner, and Nina Wright Yates (Matthew) of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Walter Ray Wright of Arlington, Va.; and one sister, Ruth Beeson of Germantown, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. and Erin L. Pearce Wright; two sisters, Annalee Pegram and Elizabeth Ouitt; and two brothers, Robert “Jack” Wright and William Wright.
