Yancy Armstrong
RIPLEY – Yancy Y.C. Armstrong, 73, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Tippah County Hospital. Y.C. Armstrong Jr. was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Bruce to Y.C. and Lillian Miller Armstrong.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Faulkner. Burial will be in Ruckersville Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ammie Jean Armstrong of Ripley; his children, Lisa Peterson of Verona, Glenda Williams and Chanelle Peterson, both of Blue Mountain, Larry Peterson of New Albany, Lamar Peterson of Ripley, Issac Armstrong of Atlanta, Verlynda (Blair) Ivory, Hattie Jean Armstrong, Dorothy Kidwell, Larry Armstrong, Sherman Armstrong, Curtis (Vernell) Peterson, Connie Peterson, Glenda (Joseph) Lovett and Jackie Austin, all of Milwaukee; a sister, Mary Pelly; 36 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in New Albany.

MYRTLE – William G. “Bill” Gaskins, 84, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his home in Myrtle. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service of New Albany.

BOONEVILLE – Willa Dean “Sam” Horn, 69, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Walden Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
‘W.C.’ Bailey
SMITHVILLE – Oscar Leroy “W.C.” Bailey, 78, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Darden amp& Sons Funeral Home of Amory.
Willard Sandberg
NEW ALBANY – Willard T. Sandberg, 80, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after an extended illness. A Chicago native, he was born Sept. 1, 1930, to Willard E. and Margaret B. Trevor Sandberg. For the past 30 years, he owned and operated W.T. Enterprise Trucking Company of New Albany. He was a very caring uncle to his nieces and nephews.
No local service. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sisters, Nannette T. Sandberg and Mary Ellen Tente (Authur), both of Addison Ill.; and one brother, John E. Sandberg (Ann) of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

Hubert York
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Hubert Edwin York, 75, formerly of Bruce, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Bruce. He was a member of East Acres Baptist Church of Memphis and a retired trucker.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Witherington officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Thomas and husband James of Bartlett, Tenn.; one son, James “Eddie” York and wife Sandra of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles York of Memphis, Tenn. and Alton York of Millington, Tenn.; one sister, Thelma Davis of Oakland; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.H. and Ruth Jones York; one brother, Jack York; and one sister, Alene Smith.
Pallbearers will be Byron Luckey, Jim Thomas, Mandi Thomas, Raymond Thomas, Daniel York and James “Eddie” York.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

WEST POINT – Hubert Franklin Swords, 58, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Dugan Memorial Home. He was born Jan. 17, 1953, in Union County to Alice Nix and Luther Clark Swords. He was an artist and a member of the Columbus Arts Council. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Towery officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc County. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his parents, Luther and Cotton Swords of West Point; sons, Trey Swords of West Point and J.T. Swords of Carriere; sister, Sandra Donour (Garry) of West Point; aunts and uncles, Burt Nix, Peggy Jumper, Kathy Breland, Willowdean Swords Montanez, Lila Swords Hiten, Serene Swords Thweatte and Roy Swords; and great-aunt, Lannie Robbins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burton and Inez Nix and Hubert and Lois Swords.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Swindol, Jaimy Towery, Carl Shirley, Josh Coleman, Danny Ivey and Gene Merkle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

VINA, Ala. – Johnny Ray “John Dog” Davis, 52, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his home. He was an employee of Tiffin Motor Homes.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Davis of Vina; four sons, Corey Davis (Kristen) of Dennis, Wesley Childers, Evan Childers (Susan) and Eddie Dees, all of Vina; two daughters, Brittany Davis of Red Bay and LaDava Davis of Vina; two grandchildren, Bryson Davis and Skyler Childers; three brothers, Jerry Lee Davis and Jeffery Davis, both of Tupelo and Michael Davis (Cindy) of Fulton; three sisters, Anita Cantrell (Earl) of Hodges, Mary Jo Stockton (Johnny) of Golden and Jennifer Trulove of Tupelo; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Vela Rae Presley Davis.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home in Red Bay.
