Joe Caldiero

WEST POINT – Joe Caldiero, 65, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at his home, in West Point. He was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Jeffersonville, N.Y., to Vita Millici and Fortunato Caldiero. He was a retired senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with 25 years of service. He loved traveling and playing golf. He was a member of the Catholic faith.

Services will be at noon Friday, July 5, at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Air Force Chaplain James E. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point with full military honors. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his five daughters, Cindy Collins of Tupelo, Sherry Baddley (Harper) of Nesbit, Jasmine Caldiero of Melbourne, Fla., Megan Gandy (Chris) of Tupelo and Bryanna Caldiero of Griffin, Ga.; five sons, Joseph Caldiero of Minneapolis, Minn., Anthony Caldiero (Cachel) of Maben, Nicholas Caldiero of Tupelo, Andrew Caldiero of West Point and Tarmarcus Caldiero of Griffin, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Debora, Emily, Trevor, Riley, Anastasia, Cameron and Amara; and the mother of his children, Gail Caldiero of Griffin, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Caldiero, Joseph Caldiero, Nicholas Caldiero, Anthony Caldiero, Harper Baddley and Chris Gandy.

SMITHVILLE – Donna Lee Bowen, 61, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born June 30, 1952, in Crawfordsville, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Jack and Elsie Mae Stonebreaker Boehm. She married Daniel Bowen on Oct. 22, 1971. She grew up in and attended school in Sauk Village, Ill. Always smiling and living her life to help others, she was a nanny for many years before moving to Smithville, working the last four years at the Salvation Army in Amory. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved being with her family and making them happy. An animal lover, she enjoyed taking care of her pets and rescuing other animals; painting, drawing, and doing craft work.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 42 years, Daniel Bowen; son, Eric Bowen of Smithville; sisters, Jeannie Williams of Florida, Mary Leonard (Earnest) of Stuart, Fla., Wanda Janssen and Mildred Clatterbuck (Herbert), all of Watseka, Ill.; brothers, Ricky Boehm of Phoenix, Ariz., Kim Boehm (Lori) of Rockaway Beach, Mo.; grandson, Lucas Bowen (Mistie) of Woodland; great-granddaughter, Ashlynne Renee Bowen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family memorial service will be held as her wishes are carried out, having her remains scattered in the Gulf of Mexico at Gulf Shores, Ala. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, of Amory is in care of arrangements.

OXFORD – Elizabeth Ann “Pumpkin” Lewis, 55, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. A native of Oxford, she was the daughter of Timothy and Mary Alice Lewis. She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the kitchen committee. She worked for Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority House at the University of Mississippi. She loved fishing, cooking, gardening and her grandkids.

A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford. The Rev. Willie G. Ervin will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela Lewis and Angelica Lewis, both of Oxford; her mother, Mary Alice Lewis of Oxford; three sisters, Verlean Carothers, Emma Grace Lewis and Mary Lois Miller, all of Oxford; seven brothers, B.C. Lewis, Robert Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Timothy Lewis Jr., Matthew Lewis, Willie Lewis and Eric Lewis, all of Oxford; five grandchildren; and one aunt, Letherine Jones of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Timothy Lewis Sr., and a brother, Joe L. Lewis.

IUKA – Grady Corbin Hinton, 87, formerly of Memphis, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Burial will follow in Holly Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jake Garrett

WEST POINT – Jacob Melvin Garrett, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. He was born June 23, 1921, in Texas to Hattie McCleskey and Leslie Garrett. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He moved to Arizona in 1938 and worked for Phelps Dodge Copper Co. for 35 years. He moved to Mississippi in 1981 and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Doran Henry officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Garrett of West Point; brother, Sidney Garrett of Pearce, Ariz.; and sisters, Opal Speck and Helen Sines, both of Clyde, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alyce Garrett, and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Rush Robinson, Alex Robinson, Mark Stafford, Gabe Stafford, Bobby Brand and Claude Cartee. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Siloam Baptist Church.

SHANNON – C.W. Ethridge, 30, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Pontotoc County.

DENNIS – Clifton H. Orick, 80, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a native of Mississippi and a television technician for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Tishomingo City Cemetery at Tishomingo. Burial will follow. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters, Ginger and Christopher Barritt of Saltillo, and Michelle and Ken Kay of Tupelo; grandchildren, Shaun and Lisa Duncan of Tucson, Ariz., Charlie and Angela Tharp of Saltillo, Christopher and Angela Duncan of Tupelo, and Wendy Kay of Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Alex Duncan, Shaun Michael Duncan, Zoie Tharp, William Duncan, Chaz Tharp and Anthony Duncan; one sister, Myra Sue Osborn of Boaz, Ala.; two nieces, Mitzi McLaurine and Rebecca Kinney; and one nephew, Tony Osborn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebaston and Essie Orick; his brother, Charles Orick; and a daughter, Penny Ann Orick.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Barritt, Charlie Tharp, Christopher Duncan, Steve Johnson, Kenney Wooldridge and Brad Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Johnson and Conroy Johnson.

Verna Grimes

NEW ALBANY – Verna C. Grimes, 88, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at her home. She was a member of Zion Chapel M.B. Church, where she was in charge of the benevolent fund and helped with Vacation Bible School for several years.

She is survived by Mavis Johnson; her stepson, Martin David Grimes of Tacoma, Wash.; her stepdaughters, Mary Grimes of Georgia and Elizabeth Grimes of Indianapolis, Ind; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Friday, July 5, at Zion Chapel M.B. Church with the Rev. Colbert Graham officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Beasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RIPLEY – Wanda Lee Lewellen Goolsby, 74, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on July 2, 1939, to Samuel Howard and Ruby Mae Dees Lewellen in Ripley. She was a retired supervisor in the furniture industry and a member of Turners Chapel Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Bro. Bill Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Tippah Memorial Garden in Ripley.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Goolsby (Jim Jones) of Ripley and Tina Morton (Don) of Mohawk, Tenn.; two sons, Jerry Michael Goolsby (Vicky) of Brandon and Howard Goolsby (Christy) of Dumas; three sisters, Betty Crawford (Victor) and Teresa Farrell, both of Ripley, and Liz Wilbanks (Dwight) of Southaven; three brothers, Jerrell Lewellen and Rick Lewellen (Rose), both of Ripley, and James Lewellen (Loren) of Collierville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Kelly Smith (James), Robbie Ford (Mandy), Trey Morton (Jeanie), Adam Morton, Taylor and Ryan Goolsby, Candace Mauney (Mannel), Leslie Holloway (Blake) and Zachary Goolsby (Annah); and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Jerry Dee Goolsby; and two brothers, Terry Lewellen and Darrell Lewellen.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robbie Ford, Trey Morton, Adam Morton, Taylor Goolsby, Ryan Goolsby, Zachary Goolsby and James Smith.

CALEDONIA – A.V. White, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at his home.

Evolene Eaton

WOODLAND – Evolene Robertson Eaton, 95, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at her residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Woodland to John W. Robertson and Jenny Hill Robertson. She was a member of Amity Baptist Church. She enjoyed piecing quilts and quilting them. She also enjoyed working in her yard, keeping up her flowers and raking leaves. She loved her family and church family dearly.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Amity Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Brady (Doug) of Woodland; 14 grandchildren, Kadee Griggs of Alabama, Pam Ladner and Guy Eaton of Tennessee, Rhonda Berry of Hazelhurst, Robbie Peden of Houlka, Angie Eaton Abrams of Woodland, Shell Robinson of West Point, Mitch and John Caples of Houston, Jessie Caples of Mooreville, D. Brady of Bruce, Joe Brady of Woodland, Pam Brady of Woodland and Drew Brady of Woodland; 37 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gladys Summer, Nora Balock and Dora Harris, all of Tennessee, and Thelma Weems of Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Jeanine Eaton of Pearl, Dorothy Eaton of Woodland and Norma Eaton of Tennessee; and a brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Eaton.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, B.L. Eaton; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. “Buddy” Eaton and Susie Doss Eaton; three daughters, Shirley Peden, Lavon and Jim Spann, and Virginia Eaton; three sisters, Lavon Renfro , Vera Criddle and Lorean Hall; and three brothers, Wilford Robertson, John W. Robertson Jr. and Leon Robertson.

Her grandsons will be pallbearers.

MANTEE – Victor Arnold Duncan, 90, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at V.A. Hospital in Jackson. He was born on Jan. 18, 1923, in Houston to Ruben Gaston Duncan and Vannie Jane Griffin Duncan. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Russ Butler and an owner and partner of D&J Service Station. He loved mechanic work. He was a member of Mantee Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Mantee Baptist Church in Mantee with the Rev. William Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mantee. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnson Duncan of Mantee; his daughter, Mary Ann Duncan of Mantee; and his brother, Ruble Duncan of Mantee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

BALDWYN – Alma Eloise Ashby Adams, 83,died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at her residence. She was born April 21, 1940, to Myrtle Wood Ashby and William Ashby. She was raised by her mother, Myrtle, and stepfather, Homer Justice. She and her husband were co-owners and operators of Auto Liquor Store & Adams Auto Sales. She had been a registered cosmetologist since 1963.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Caraway officiating. Burial will be in the Prentiss Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include daughters, Vicki Adams (J.D. Pannell) and Chris Adams, both Baldwyn; one grandson, Zach Adams of Tupelo; stepson, Guy Michael Adams (Ann) of Plano, Texas; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Adams and Cade Adams (Kerry); three stepgreat-grandchildren, Jackson, Caroline and Lila Grace of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Ricky Wren (Sherry), Larry Wren; great-nieces, Kim Holley and Jennifer Pannell; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Adams of Baldwyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Guy Adams; and a sister, Bobbie Wren and husband, Jimmy.
