Elsie S. Holcomb
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Elsie S. Holcomb, 82, died Monday, July 6, 2009. She was born Oct. 7, 1926.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Fred Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc. Laughlin Service Funeral Home of Huntsville is assisting the family with local arrangements there.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Driver (Duane) of Huntsville; one sister, Louise Howell of Durant; and grandchildren, Preston and Brandon Driver of Huntsville.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Wednesday at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 117A Longwood Dr., SE, Huntsville, AL 35801.

James Mayo
BLUE SPRINGS – James Troy Mayo, 94, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Burial will be in Martintown Cemetery.
Barry Sims
SMITHVILLE – Barry Dale “Bigfoot” Sims, 40, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, in Marshall County as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 28, 1969, in Amory to Larry Dale Sims and Beverly Newton Kemp. He worked in maintenance at MTD in Verona and he was a graduate of Smithville High School. He was a member of the Dream Riders Motorcycle Club, Southern Cruisers, and a crew member of Blown Money Racing. He was Baptist. He enjoyed playing music and being around his family and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Wes White, Bro. Ryan Musgrove and Bro. Phil Frye officiating. Burial will be in the Young Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his father, Larry Sims (TC) of Smithville; his mother, Beverly Kemp (Melvin) of Columbus; one brother, Dusty Sims (Kristy) of Smithville; a nephew, Preston Lane Sims; and his grandparents, Una Ione Newton, Albert Kemp and Bessie Kemp.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kevin D. Sims; and grandparents, Glados and Naomi Sims, William “Bill” Newton, and Alvis and Maggie Coleman.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pierce, John Wax, Mark Clingan, Jeff Wideman, Mick Blaylock, Chris McCreary and Johnny Gann Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dream Riders Bike Club.
Visitation will be 5 until 9 p.m. today and will continue until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

OXFORD – William Eugene “Billy” Tidwell, 50, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his home in Oxford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will be in Yellow Leaf Cemetery near Oxford.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

GLEN – Freemon Bascomb, 81, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to service time Thursday.

TYLERTOWN – Willie Larry Beard, 49, formerly of Holly Springs, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs.

BELLEFONTAINE – James Paul Hitt, 64, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wise Funeral Home in Eupora. Burial will be in Embry Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Cynthia Haynes
PONTOTOC – Cynthia Louise Haynes, 23, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a loving mother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Gordon Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Buckhorn Cemetery.
Survivors include her grandmother, Aliee Garrision; her grandfather, Richard E. Roser; her father, Larry Haynes; her sister, Crystal Harrington; her adoptive mother, Shelia Cone; her son, Anthony Blayze Haynes; her daughters, Callionna G. Haynes, Aleigh Nevaeh Hopkins and Catalena G. Hopkins; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lola B. Nash; her grandfather, Bill Haynes; and her mother, Cathy Haynes.
Pallbearers will be Jason D. Hopkins, Richard T. Johnson, Joshua L. Adams, Damian Tutor, Derek Tutor and Duane Tutor.
Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time today.

Annie L. Huddleston
TUPELO – Annie L. Huddleston, 57, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona.

Jackie Bennett
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jackie Wayne Bennett, 58, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Southaven. He was born July 30, 1950, in Itawamba County to Roy Clifford and Ruby Tallant Bennett. He was a 1968 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton. He earned a degree in industrial engineering at Mississippi State University. He was an employee of Benchmark Electronics in Huntsville and a member of the Eagles Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Mike Yielding officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Aonya White of Aynor, S.C.; three granddaughters, Brooklyn, Breanna and Kaitlyn; three brothers, Roy J. (Johnnie) Bennett of Smithville, Roy C. (Patricia) Bennett Jr. of Starkville and Jerry Bennett of Huntsville; four sisters, Lillie (Mack) Frederick of Huntsville, Nellie (Jim) Gault of Saltillo, Etoyl (Jerry) Alred of Beaumont, Texas, and Pattie (Jim) Armstrong of Shannon; one brother-in-law, James Brown of Fulton; 22 nieces and nephews; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine Brown; and a brother, Jimmy Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Jamie brown, Jeb Brown, Steve Frederick, Mike Frederick, Riley Frederick, Evan Gault, Cliff Bennett, Brian Bennett and Jack Meaut.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Virga C. Gillespie
OKOLONA – Virga C. Gillespie, 90, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 26, 1918. She graduated from Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs and taught for more than 40 years in several different school systems. She was a licensed insurance agent for several years for Westbrooks Funeral Home/American Burial Association. She was a member of Zion Springs M.B. Church. She was the widow of O.Q. Gillespie.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Springs M.B. Church with Minister Nollen Elzie Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Raymond (Glenda) Gillespie; a brother, Warren G. (Zora) Cousin Sr.; three grandchildren, Chris Gillespie, Nikkie Gillespie and Megan Gillespie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.

Mable Miller
VERONA – Mable Trice Miller, 69, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was the daughter of the late Robert Trice Jr. and Cleo Lumpkins Trice of Lee County. She was a member of Poplar Springs CME Church and a member of the senior choir, Usher Board and Missionary Society. She loved attending the North Mississippi annual conference and preparing for the birthday tea. She worked many years at NMMC and also was seamstress for the public.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Poplar Springs CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Clementine Mays officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Miller of Verona; two sons, Elmer Shay (Beatrice) Miller and Eric Miller, both of Verona; one daughter, Kathesa LeShun Miller of Verona; three sisters, Clytee Chalmes (Johnny) of Memphis, Juanita Patton of Flint, Mich., and Sarah Hafford (Alan) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one aunt, Melissa Rainey of Tupelo; two uncles, Rev. J.Y. Trice of Rosedale and Verdell (Mattie) Trice of Chicago; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. and family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. today. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. Family and friends may sign the guest registry at www.agnewandsons.com.

CORINTH – Ralph Donald “Little Ralph” Lancaster, 75, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center.
Services with military honors will be at noon Wednesday at the Chapel of Memories at Magnolia Funeral Home in Corinth. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday.

Nelda Newcomb
BURNSVILLE – Nelda Newcomb died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Burnsville Tabernacle. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5 today at the church. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of arrangements.
Jean Poss
WEST POINT – Dora Jeanan “Jean” Poss, 71, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at her residence in West Point. She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Monroe County to Hulon and Lena Knight. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Point and a member of the Relief Society of the church. She was a tax examiner for the IRS.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Doug Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Monroe County. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one son, David Dewayne Poss (Priscilla) of West Point; three daughters, Lainie Adams (Richard) of Pleasantview, Utah, Donna Colburn (Roger) of Aberdeen and Deborah Myers (Darrell) of Cedar Bluff; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; a granddaughter; and four brothers, Billy Charles Morris Knight, Johnny Clinton Knight, Norman Ray Knight and Harold Kenneth Knight.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Myers, Roger Colburn, Frankie Puckett, Randy Colburn, Lee Keenum and Robbie Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Dodd, David Berryhill and Whitt Foster.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Travis R. Harlow
PONTOTOC – Travis R. Harlow, 71, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born April 16, 1938, in Pontotoc to A.B. and Ruby Walls Harlow. He was a carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and the Military Order of Kooties. He was the current commander of the VFW Post 4057 in Tupelo and a former state VFW commander. He was a Mason and a Shriner.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mortimer Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Robert Kingsley and Bro. Paul Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Harlow of Pontotoc; five daughters, Kathy Kramer, Regina Huey and Sandra Anderson (Scott), all of Pontotoc, Karen Suto (Ryan) of Memphis and Becky Newell (David) of Mooreville; one son, Joseph Lombas of Canton, Texas; one brother, Clifton Harlow (Wanda) of Pontotoc; 11 grandchildren, Denise Prust (Mike), Jessica Washington, Matt Guin, PV2 Anthony Huey, Amanda Dunaway, Lindsey Rose Anderson, Madison Rea Anderson, Travis Martinelli, Malanda Anderson, Andrew Anderson and Dana Newell; four great-grandchildren, Avery Prust, Jada Washington, Rody Washington and Kalie Byrd; and his caregivers, Kathy Kramer, Debbie Clifford and Sandra Anderson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Moorman and Beatrice Sellers; one brother, Rudolph Harlow; one granddaughter, Melissa Martinelli; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Terry Carlock, Paul Gibbs, John Wayne White, Glover “Bud” Powell, James “Flip” Baumgardner and Ray Toy. Jerry Chandler will be an honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

CORINTH – Charles E. Pollard, 66, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Ripley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Little Zion M.B. Church. Burial will be in Corinth National Cemetery. Grayson Funeral Services of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Lewellen
RIPLEY – Billy Thomas Lewellen, 82, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his home in Ripley. He was a retired supervisor for American Biltrite Corp. with 31 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a faithful member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin and the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery at Ripley.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Shelton Lewellen of Ripley; two brothers, Nelbert Lewellen of Ripley and Curtis Lewellen (Mary Carolyn) of Amory; and four nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard M. and Lona Barkley Lewellen; and one sister, Nyleen Lewellen McElwain.
Pallbearers will be Rodney McBryde, Tony McBryde, Jeff Shelton, Jeff Kennedy, Michael McElwain and Jim Crumpton. Honorary pallbearers will be Durell Calvery, Bobby Fay McBryde, Billy Hugh McBryde, Phil Peeler, David Johnston, Gene Garner, Larry Lewellen, Bon Garner and Bobby Grisham.
