Linda Miller

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Linda Faye Naylor Miller, 63, formerly of Waterford, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be noon Tuesday, July 9, at New Dimension Salt and Light Ministries in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Abbeville. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

The remains will lie in repose from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The remains will lie in state from 11 to 11:55 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Timmy Elrod

BOONEVILLE – Timmy “Tim” Elrod, 55, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville as a result of an automobile accident. He was disabled. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and making people laugh. He loved his family.

Services will be 3 p.m. today, July 8, at Church of God Ten Acre Field in Red Bay with Bro. Marshall Green officating. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, T.J. Elrod (Michelle) and Dustin Elrod, both of Anniston, Ala.; two grandsons, Hunter and Brodie Elrod; three sisters, Judy Credille (Ray) of Belmont, Linda Atkinson (Jesse) of Guntown, and Shelia Barrett (Dorce) of Booneville; one brother, David Elrod of Red Bay; the mother of his children, Kay Hagler; special friends, Brandon, Gregory, Stephen, and Debbie Barrett; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Waymon Elrod and Grace Fortner.

Pallbearers are Stephen Floyd, Chuck Scott, Dough Hammock, Ken Elrod, and Randy and Jamie Credille.

Honorary pallbearers are Ray Credille, Jesse Atkinson, Dorce Ray Barrett.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.

Charlotte Baker

HICKORY FLAT – Charlotte Ann Baker, 75, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center’s Hospice Unit in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 15, 1937, in Union County to George Dewey Chunn and Vera Goode Chunn. She was a retired employee of the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in the dietary department. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eugene Stockstill officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Rheta Hamlet (Danny) of New Albany and Pam Hale (Tommy) of Hickory Flat; a son, Charles Baker (Virginia) of Dumas; a sister, Oneita Riggs of Holly Springs; two grandchildren, Alisha Roque and Christopher Hamlet; three step grandchildren, Tabitha Arnold, Lee Hale, and Rachel Bennett; a great-grandchild, Ava Kate Hamlet; and three step great-grandchildren, Trenton Arnold, John Thomas Arnold, and Ella Arnold.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eutoyce Gregory; a brother, C.W. Chunn; and two granddaughters, Danna Hamlet and Jessica Baker.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Dora Carr

VERONA – Dora Carr, 93, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Darlington Oaks Hospice. She was born in Lee County on Dec. 19, 1919, to Elbert Curtis and Mattie Sue Deason. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plantersville and the Verona Lioness Club. She traveled extensively with her husband and family during his military career. She enjoyed gardening and watching and feeding her birds. She was an avid bowler, bowling with Ladies Monday Night League.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, with Bro. Jesse Betts and Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Lora Carr of Verona; one grandson, Matthew Carr of Mooreville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester C. Carr; one son, Jack Craig Carr; and her siblings, Donna York, Evie Mallard, Louise Gillentine, Elbert Deason, and Frances Conwill.

HOUSTON – Virginia Joann Higginbotham Howell, 65, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Chickasaw County to John D. Higginbotham and Murtice Woodall Higginbotham. She was a retired truck driver. She attended Macedonia Methodist Church in Houston.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Lampkin officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Lowell Don Howell of Houston; one daughter, Jennifer Carter of Dyer, Ark.; one son, Thomas Howell (Leigh Ann) of Houston; two sisters, Linda Brabant (Warren) of Plato, Mo., and Mary J. Nabors (J.D.)of Houston; and three grandsons, Ethan Hardin of Fort Campbell, Ky., Dalton Carter of Pontotoc, and Garrison Howell of Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill Higginbotham; and her two sisters, Lucy Trent and Kay Trent.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Hardin, Dalton Carter, Garrison Howell, Kevin Moore, Billy Moore, and Paul Trent.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of her truck driving family.

Claude H. Owen

PONTOTOC – Claude Harris Owen, 81, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born Jan. 24, 1932, to Henry Clay and Mary Barlow Owen. He attended Algoma High School, and he married his high school sweetheart, Lovie Floyd on Dec. 22, 1951. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, and he retired from Pontotoc Butane after 32 years. He was an alderman of Pontotoc for 24 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was a Mason and Shriner, receiving his 50-year pin this year. He was very giving person and always out to help a friend. He enjoyed life and loved his family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with the Rev. Tom Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Jernigan Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lovie Floyd Owen; daughter, Janie Ruth Owens (Jackie); daughter-in-law, Donna Owen Butler; grandchildren, Carmen Owen, Nick Owens (Suzanne), and Nathan Owens; and great-grandchildren, Cotton Owens and Dawson Ruth.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lynn Keith Owen; parents, Henry Clay and Mary Owen; and brother, Billy Clay Owen.

Pallbearers are Terry Keith Weeks, Rex Mooney, Harry Corder, Dennis Corder, D.R. Simmons, and Pat Montgomery.

BALDWYN – Deborah Rose Hill, 59, died July 6, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident. She worked for Blue Bell Garment MFG for 22 years in Baldwyn and Booneville. For the last 16 years, she has been a homemaker and has kept her grandchildren until they were school age. Deborah loved shopping, especially with her daughters and granddaughters, swimming in her pool, and taking care of her two chihuahua’s, Bella Grace and Jackson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Robert McCoy, Bro. Bill Adams, and Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in Prentice Memorial Gardens. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, John (Bubba) Hill of Baldwyn; four daughters, Amy Michael and Jeff, Jennifer Roberts and Jody, Shanna Martin and Jake, and Morgan Wilson and Jason; eight grandchildren, Jon Mark Dugger, Jakob Elijah Roberts, Reid Michael, Katelyn Rose Dugger, Ross Michael, Savanna Martin, Blaine Martin and Kinzleigh Wilson; one sister, Margaret Allen; and three brothers, David Palmer and Judy, Jimmy Palmer, and Eddie Palmer.

BALDWYN – Montana Rose Roberts, 11, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, as the result of a automobile accident. She was born Nov. 16, 2001, and attended Mantachie Elementary School, where she played basketball and softball. Montana loved to sing, and she was a cheerleader for CIA (Cheer Intensity Athletics) and Mantachie Mustangs pee-wee football. Montana also enjoyed shopping with her Nona, Deborah Hill.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Robert McCoy, Bro. Bill Adams and Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in East Mt. Zion cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anita Bledsoe BOONEVILLE – Anita June “Martin” Bledsoe, 58, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at her home. She was born on June 23, 1955, to Billy Sr. and Mary Nell Martin. She was a member of First Apostolic Church of Booneville.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Nell Martin; two daughters, Gina (Jason) Stover of Dyersburg, Tenn. and Beth (Joey) McConnell of Walnut; two sons, Jason (Misty) Grimes of Corinth and John William (Lisa) Grimes of Elletsville, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Annette Martin and Carol Walker, both of Bloomington, Ind.; one brother, Billy Jr. (Christy) Martin of Bloomington, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; and one grandson, Henry Isiah Stover.
