Catherine Lequia

AMORY – Catherine Beatrice Badini Lequia, 88, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born June 24, 1924, in Iron Mountain, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Giuseppe (Joseph) Badini and Mary Calcaterra Badini. She married Leo Lequia.

Mrs. Lequia captured the very essence of a strong Italian woman. Her robust and sturdy stature made way for her warm and compassionate heart, allowing her love to not only be seen miles away, but felt through some of life’s toughest struggles. Surpassing the barrier of four generations, her love gave meaning to the word family. In addition to her own relatives, she took upon herself the role of caretaker to numerous families in nearby neighborhoods. She loved the Lord and worshipping him throughout all phases of her life. She was a longtime member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ. Much of her spare time was spent enjoying the company of her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, commonly reading the Bible and rehashing stories of old.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. David Highland officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Shirley Gross of Janesville, Wis., Denna Abbott (Michail) of Amory, Scot Hurley (Jill) of Amory, Dewayne Hurley (Lori) of Nettleton, George Johnson (Tanya) of Amory, John Johnson (Jana) of Fulton, Fran Coleman (Brent) of Fulton and Kenny Johnson (Mary Ann) of Nettleton; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Antoinette Kozlowitz, Theresa Hurley and Mary Lequia.
