Billy Cook
LAGRANGE, N.C. – Billy Wayne Cook, 58, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. A native of Pontotoc County, he was the son of Milton and Velma King Cook. He was a member of New Salem M.B. Church in Pontotoc.
After moving to North Carolina, he united with Springfield Baptist Church.
He was a retired United States Marine veteran with the rank of gunnery sergeant. He had a quiet spirit but loved his family, reading the Bible, his antique truck, mentoring youth, and offering counseling to those who asked him. He was a former employee of Cooper Tire Company of Tupelo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at noon Saturday, June 15, at New Salem M.B. Church in Pontotoc. The Rev. Carl Shack Sr. will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Angela Edwards-Cook of LaGrange, N.C.; two daughters, Kimber-Ann M. Cook of Charlotte, N.C., and Damaya Tenelle Cook of Beaufort, S.C.; one son, Justin Leif Cook of Whitesville, N.C.; his mother, Velma Cook of Pontotoc; two sisters, Mary Cook (Robert) and Teresa Cook, both of Tupelo; two brothers, Robert Karl Cook of Tupelo and Jerry Cook of Nashville, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Zionna Cook-Singleton of Beaufort, S.C.; and his father-in-law, Jasper Eugene Edwards of LaGrange, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Salaetheo J. Cook; a grandson, Zion Christopher Cook; a brother, James Milton Cook; and a niece, Sherry Lester.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Jeff Justice
FURRS – Jeffrey Wayne Justice, 47, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his workplace at Hickory Springs Mfg. Co. in Verona. He was born in Tupelo on April 8, 1966, to Wayne and Betty Richey Justice. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1984 and spent the last 25 years working as a crane operator for Hickory Springs. A member of the Anchor Holds Non-Denominational Church in Guntown, he was an avid storyteller and practical jokester. He loved his children and his nieces and nephew and pulling pranks on them; Southern gospel music; and watching TV, especially the Food Channel, Home Network and “The Voice.” Commonly known as “Jeffro Bodine” among family and friends, he loved life, living and laughter.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 14, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Mike Sanders and Bro. Jack Ezell officiating. Private burial will follow in the Justice Family Plot at Belden Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to service time today. Holland-Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Jon Justice and Anna Justice of Fulton and Furrs: his parents, Wayne and Betty Justice of Furrs; his sisters, Beth Sanders (Ricky) of Guntown and Dana Mason (Josh) of Booneville; four nieces and three nephews, Marleigh, Jaxon, Harper, Lavender, Patrick, Braleigh, Rickey (Hope), Josh (Amber) and Denise; the mother of his children, Stephanie Lemons (Bud) of Fulton; a special aunt, Liz Woods of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; special uncles, David Justice and Donnie Richey; godchild, Stephen Henry.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Jean Justice, and his grandparents, Bob and Myrtle Richey, and Luvercie “Pat” and O.D. Justice.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Sanders, Josh Mason, Ronnie Hathcock, Billy Shane Richey, Michael Cantrell, Josh Sanders, Rodger Sanders and Zan Dorris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaxon, Marleigh and Harper Sanders, Braleigh Mason and Rylee Cantrell.

Amber Parker
MOOREVILLE – Amber Michelle Parker, 20, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at her home. She was born March 5, 1993. She attended Mooreville schools and obtained her G.E.D. She was a homemaker. She loved swimming, camping and being around her family.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Lee and Bro. Danny Robinson officiating. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Destiny L. Tucker and Tyler Nathaniel Tucker; her mother, Shawnitta Dye (fiance, Tony Smith), all of Mooreville; her father, Jack White; her fiance, Alex Witcher; one sister, April Livingston; two brothers, Daniel White and Joel Thornton; her grandmother, Patricia Jackson; three special cousins, Kim Franks, Keith Reynolds and Matt Reynolds; and a host of other family members.

Roy Nails
TUPELO – Roy Monroe Nails passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Tupelo to Nathaniel and Minrose Forbes Nails. He was a lifelong member of Lane Chapel CME Church. He attended George Washington Carver High School, where he played on the Blue Devil football team, earning the nickname “The Shark” because of his toughness. He pursued a career in the United States Navy, serving for 20 years and retiring in 1972. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening.
A service celebrating his life will be at noon Saturday, June 15, at Lane Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Penson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Porter’s Memorial Park. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his nephews, Michael (Ruth) Harris of Gulfport, Malcohm (Shelia) Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Kelvin (Shelia) Nails of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Stephanie Nails of Brooklyn, N.Y., niece and primary caregiver, Sylvia Ferguson of Tupelo; cousins, Monrobie Jennings, J.C. Middlebrooks, Johnnie Middlebrooks and Pam (Terry) Ezell, all of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Nails Smith; and a brother, Frank Nails.
Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the J.W. Porter’s Chapel. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Gene Pruitt
GOLDEN – Gene “Deacon” Pruitt, 74, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Aug. 5, 1938, to Leo and Erma Worthy Pruitt. He was a member of Life Unlimited Church for more than 40 years. He logged most all his life and enjoyed farming, gardening and raising cattle.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today, June 14, at Life Unlimited Church with Bro. Rex Leitner and Bro. David Kelley officiating. Burial will be in the Hodge Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Terry Pruitt (Linda); one daughter, Sherry Tate (Bobby); one daughter-in-law, Judy Pruitt; four brothers, Ruble Pruitt (Cora), Jerry Pruitt (Nellie), Jimmy Pruitt and Johnny Pruitt (Debbie); one sister, Elaine Ashley, all of Golden; a special friend, Betty Stults of Tupelo; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Pruitt, in 2007; one son, Robert Wayne Pruitt, in 2012; one daughter, Teresa Ann Pruitt, in 1967; one brother, Bill Pruitt; two sisters, Ruby Pounders and Nellie Hargett; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ashley, Brandon Colburn, Leonard Prien, Cory Pruitt, Junior Smith and Troy Underwood.
Visitation will continue until service time today at Life Unlimited Church on Jericho Road near Golden.

MICHIGAN CITY – Carolyn Goddard, 82, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today, June 14, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar, Tenn. Burial will be in Saulsbury Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time today.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin Goddard; two daughters, Judy Goddard of Olive Branch and Sandra Hobson (Bobby) of Ashland; brother, Thomas Doyle of Ashland; granddaughter, Candice Nutt (Chris) of Ashland; great-granddaughter, Sydney Marie Nutt; and sister-in-law, Jane Doyle of Michigan City.

John Robinson
IUKA – John A. Robinson, 90, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad where he was employed as a signal engineer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Interment will follow in Patrick Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Robinson of Iuka; one son, John T. Robinson of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; one daughter, Victoria Johnston (Jason) of Smyrna, Tenn.; three stepsons, Charles Emmons (Cornelia) of Iuka, David Emmons (Helen) of Norfolk, Va.,, and Mark Emmons (Pam) of Paducah, Ky.; two sisters, Grace Floyd of Houston and Emily Scruggs of Corinth; nine grandchildren, Jay Johnston, Johanna Robinson, Carol Anne Kennedy, Grant Emmons, Justin Emmons, Jonathan Emmons, Margaret Emmons, Leigh Emmons and Christina Emmons; and four great-grandchildren, James Johnston, Justin Johnston, Joseph Johnston and Alexis Emmons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Robinson; his parents, Alfred and Nolar Newcomb Robinson; four brothers, Edward, Luther, Lee and Doc Robinson; and three sisters, Onnie Mae Frazee, Mattie Stair and Susie Robinson.
Pallbearers include Daniel Kennedy, Jonathan Emmons, Justin Emmons, Russ Robinson, David McNair and Jay Johnston.

Ronny VanBuskirk
MOOREVILLE – Ronny “R. V.” VanBuskirk, 63, died suddenly Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in Tupelo on Dec. 27, 1949, to J.C. and Frances Harrelson Buskirk. He proudly served in the Mississippi National Guard. For the past five years, he worked for MS Nonwovens Inc. as a furniture supply salesman. He loved to watch his grandsons play ball and his family time. He attended Basileia Baptist Church in Mooreville.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, June 14, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Derick Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Carolyn VanBuskirk of Mooreville; one daughter, Hayley VanBuskirk Harrington (Shane) of Saltillo; his mother, Frances Buskirk of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Wes and Van Harrington of Saltillo; one brother, Mike VanBuskirk (Leslie) of Tupelo; one niece, Katie VanBuskirk of Tupelo; and one nephew, Harris VanBuskirk of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Buskirk, in 1992.

BOONEVILLE – Corinne Mitchell, 87, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Landmark Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Jan. 10, 1926, to Sam and Evie DeLozier. he was a homemaker, a member of East Booneville Baptist Church and involved in the Home Extension Club.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Booneville Cemetery.
Survivors are two daughters, Clara (Earl) Owens of Booneville and Lee (Dale) Robertson of Columbus; three sons, George (Tracy) Mitchell of Meridian, Sam (Janice) Mitchell of Guntown and Archie (Martha) Mitchell of Jumpertown; one sister, Lucille Inmon; nine grandchildren, Tori Mitchell (Jeff) Horne, Marc Mitchell, Drew Mitchell, Alyson (Steven) Dickerson, Amy Owens, Misty Mitchell, Lacie Mitchell, Cody Robertson and Casey Robertson; two great-grandchildren, Grace Horne and Gunner Dickerson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Street Mitchell; her parents; and two brothers, Milton and Melvin DeLozier.

MYRTLE – Linda Kay Polk Howell, 47, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at her in-laws’ home. She was born June 9, 1966, in Drew to Sammie Lee Polk and Bobbie Jean Friday Polk. She was employed with Union County Health and Rehab until her health declined.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 15, at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Burial will be in Nebo Cemetery at Drew.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Christopher Howell of Myrtle; five children, Samantha Polk and Delisha Polk of Tupelo, Ashley (Bobby) Johnson of New Albany, Nickalos McClellan of Batesville and Joe McClellan of Hattiesburg; her siblings, Robert (Sharon) Polk and Verlina “Penny” (Minister Leodis) Conner of New Albany and Mary (Calvin)Polk-Hawkins of Oxford; six grandchildren, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, C.L. and Patsy Howell of Myrtle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sallie McWilliams.
