LAGRANGE, N.C. – Billy Wayne Cook, 58, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. A native of Pontotoc County, he was the son of Milton and Velma King Cook. He was a member of New Salem M.B. Church in Pontotoc.
After moving to North Carolina, he united with Springfield Baptist Church.
He was a retired United States Marine veteran with the rank of gunnery sergeant. He had a quiet spirit but loved his family, reading the Bible, his antique truck, mentoring youth, and offering counseling to those who asked him. He was a former employee of Cooper Tire Company of Tupelo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at noon Saturday, June 15, at New Salem M.B. Church in Pontotoc. The Rev. Carl Shack Sr. will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Angela Edwards-Cook of LaGrange, N.C.; two daughters, Kimber-Ann M. Cook of Charlotte, N.C., and Damaya Tenelle Cook of Beaufort, S.C.; one son, Justin Leif Cook of Whitesville, N.C.; his mother, Velma Cook of Pontotoc; two sisters, Mary Cook (Robert) and Teresa Cook, both of Tupelo; two brothers, Robert Karl Cook of Tupelo and Jerry Cook of Nashville, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Zionna Cook-Singleton of Beaufort, S.C.; and his father-in-law, Jasper Eugene Edwards of LaGrange, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Salaetheo J. Cook; a grandson, Zion Christopher Cook; a brother, James Milton Cook; and a niece, Sherry Lester.

FURRS – Jeffrey Wayne Justice, 47, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his workplace at Hickory Springs Mfg. Co. in Verona. He was born in Tupelo on April 8, 1966, to Wayne and Betty Richey Justice. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1984 and spent the last 25 years working as a crane operator for Hickory Springs. A member of the Anchor Holds Non-Denominational Church in Guntown, he was an avid storyteller and practical jokester. He loved his children and his nieces and nephew and pulling pranks on them; Southern gospel music; and watching TV, especially the Food Channel, Home Network and “The Voice.” Commonly known as “Jeffro Bodine” among family and friends, he loved life, living and laughter.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 14, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Mike Sanders and Bro. Jack Ezell officiating. Private burial will follow in the Justice Family Plot at Belden Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to service time today. Holland-Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Jon Justice and Anna Justice of Fulton and Furrs: his parents, Wayne and Betty Justice of Furrs; his sisters, Beth Sanders (Ricky) of Guntown and Dana Mason (Josh) of Booneville; four nieces and three nephews, Marleigh, Jaxon, Harper, Lavender, Patrick, Braleigh, Rickey (Hope), Josh (Amber) and Denise; the mother of his children, Stephanie Lemons (Bud) of Fulton; a special aunt, Liz Woods of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; special uncles, David Justice and Donnie Richey; godchild, Stephen Henry.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Jean Justice, and his grandparents, Bob and Myrtle Richey, and Luvercie “Pat” and O.D. Justice.

TUPELO – Roy Monroe Nails passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Tupelo to Nathaniel and Minrose Forbes Nails. He was a lifelong member of Lane Chapel CME Church. He attended George Washington Carver High School, where he played on the Blue Devil football team, earning the nickname “The Shark” because of his toughness. He pursued a career in the United States Navy, serving for 20 years and retiring in 1972. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening.
A service celebrating his life will be at noon Saturday, June 15, at Lane Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Penson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Porter’s Memorial Park. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his nephews, Michael (Ruth) Harris of Gulfport, Malcohm (Shelia) Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Kelvin (Shelia) Nails of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Stephanie Nails of Brooklyn, N.Y., niece and primary caregiver, Sylvia Ferguson of Tupelo; cousins, Monrobie Jennings, J.C. Middlebrooks, Johnnie Middlebrooks and Pam (Terry) Ezell, all of Tupelo.

GOLDEN – Gene “Deacon” Pruitt, 74, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Aug. 5, 1938, to Leo and Erma Worthy Pruitt. He was a member of Life Unlimited Church for more than 40 years. He logged most all his life and enjoyed farming, gardening and raising cattle.

IUKA – John A. Robinson, 90, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad where he was employed as a signal engineer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He proudly served in the Mississippi National Guard. For the past five years, he worked for MS Nonwovens Inc. as a furniture supply salesman. He loved to watch his grandsons play ball and his family time. He attended Basileia Baptist Church in Mooreville.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, June 14, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Derick Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
