Brenda Shoemake
BRUCE – Brenda Lee Doak Shoemake, 65, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. She was born March 5, 1944, in Bruce. She was a member of the Bruce First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Bruce High School, Northwest Community College and the University of Mississippi with a B.A. degree. She was retired from the State of Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. Robert Earl Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Pittsboro Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Mike Shoemake (Elizabeth) of Germantown, Tenn.; her mother, Etoyle Stribling Doak of Savannah, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Alex and Abbie Shoemake of Germantown.
Pallbearers will be Robert Edward Oakley, Rodney Gillespie, Don Sanderson, Bobby Stribling, Rommel Stribling and Dale Weeks.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Lewis D. Harris
NETTLETON – Lewis D. Harris, 86, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Cason Baptist Church in Nettleton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with Sammy McMillian and Shane Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery in Adamsville, Tenn. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, Tenn., is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Byrd Beaty Harris of Nettleton; two sons, Michael D. Harris and Spencer Harris of Memphis; two daughters, Sherry H. Culver and Cynthia H. Street of Nettleton; one sister, Inez H. Treece of Selmer, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae Augusta and Ida Leona Harris, and a daughter, Patricia H. Abbott.

Otha H. Murley
ASHLAND – Otha H. Murley, 96, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. He was a farmer and a Methodist. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Services were Sunday, June 14, at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Bro. Stanley Robinson officiated, and Bro. Jimmy Curle assisted. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Benton County.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Johnson (Jerry) of Falkner; one son, Jimmy Murley (Vivian) of Holly Springs; five grandchildren, Edward “Bubba” Murley of Ackerman, Steven Johnson (Regina), Janet Jackson and Joy Rowland (Rodney) all of Falkner and Jill Hercules (Eduardo) of Ripley; seven great-grandchildren, Bailey and Marcus Johnson, Blake Thomas, Carley Jackson, Shelby and Charles Rowland, and Hayden Hercules; three stepgreat-grandchildren, B.J. Wiginton, and Josh and Tyler Windsor; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lora Mae Poole Murley; his parents, Theodore Francis and Tisha Wilbanks Murley; two sisters, Zelma McCullar and Myrtle Alberson; and five brothers, Cleveland, Richard, Clarence, William and Tommy Hurley.
Pallbearers were Steven Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Bailey Johnson, Blake Thomas, Edward Murley, Eduardo Hercules, Rodney Rowland and Mike Ray. Honorary pallbearers were B.J. Wiginton, Josh Windsor, Tyler Windsor and Hayden Hercules.

DETROIT, Ala. – J.B. Robertson Sr., 79, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Marion Regional Hospital in Hamilton, Ala.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Ala. Burial with military honors will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jackie Caradine Jr.
SALTILLO – Harold Edward “Jackie” Caradine Jr., 63, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his residence in Saltillo after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1945, in Clay County to Harold Edward Caradine Sr. and Faye Reese Caradine. He served a number of years in the United States Marine Corps. He worked many years in the furniture industry as an upholsterer with Futorian in Okolona. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Paul Whitt officiating. Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery in Clay County.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Caradine of Saltillo; two daughters, Patty Hallmark (Marvin) of Vina, Ala., and Lisa Moore (Jimmy) of Guntown; two sons, David Caradine (Reana) of Okolona and Billy Caradine (Patricia) of Pontotoc; his mother, Faye Reese Caradine McCrory of Okolona; one sister, Janice Coleman (David) of Okolona; one brother, Jimmy Caradine (Marianne) of Vardaman; six grandchildren, Cody and Courtney Moore, Elizabeth and Edward Caradine, Bradley Duncan and Daniel Tackett. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Edward Caradine Sr.; an infant brother, Billy Joe Caradine; and his grandfather, Edward Patrick Caradine.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Jaggers, Rod Moore, Clifton “Jabo” Whitt, and Billy, Daniel and Phillip Tackett.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday, and from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

VERONA – Tavaris Lashawn Shelton, 15, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, as the result of an accidental drowning in the Tombigbee River.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Plantersville Middle School Gym with the Rev. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery at Aberdeen. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his father, Michael Walker, and his mother, Shalonda Hardin; three brothers, Brandon, Michael and Cameron Walker; four sisters, Makala and Keitashia Shelton of Verona, and Jalisa and Makaila Walker of Aberdeen. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jessie Mae Walker.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pearline Drexel
IUKA – Pearline Nunley Drexel, 82, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Emmitt Mauney
DRY CREEK – Emmitt Mauney, 76, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his home. He retired from American Biltrite after 36 years. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Concord Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Walker officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sue Mauney; one son, Jerry Mauney (Jenni) of Dry Creek; one sister, Lorene Willis of Pine Grove; eight grandchildren, Becky Mauney, Alison Mann, Candy Thomas, Manuel Mauney, LaShundra Byrd, Sara Hill, Jared Peach and Jessi Mauney; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Cephus and May Bell Cook Mauney; a daughter, Connie Mauney; and two sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to service time today at the church.

Ella Mae Heller
WEST POINT – Ella Mae Heller, 88, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. Burial will follow in Pine Bluff Cemetery near Mantee.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Scotty Barnes
TISHOMINGO – Scotty Barnes, 49, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Itawamba County as the result of an automobile accident. He was a police officer with Itawamba Community College. He enjoyed collecting coins, Civil War relics and photography.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church with Bro. William Burcham officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Barnes of Tishomingo; his mother, Dorla McAllister of Florence, Ala.; two daughters, Christian Allison (Jessie) and Katelyn Barnes, both of Tishomingo; one grandchild, Carson Allison.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bal Barnes, and his grandmother, Alma Morgan.
