RIPLEY – Carolyn Starks, 60, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Baldwyn Nursing Facility. She was born Aug. 26, 1952, to Robert Chills and Juanita Carroll Chills, in Tippah County.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Flatwood Grove Church of The Living God at Blue Mountain. Burial is at the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Troy Starks of Ripley; four children, Anita (General Jr.) Johnson of Ripley, Linda Ruth Starks of Columbus, Peggy Jean Luster of Tupelo and Andrew (Childred) Starks of Baldwyn; one sister, Mary Williams of Blue Mountain; five brothers, Robert, Andy and Willie Chills, all of Blue Mountain, Fred Chills of Ripley and Jerry Wayne Chills of New Albany; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Willie Perry Chills.
MERIDIAN – George A. Thomas, 66, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at R.P. White Nursing Home in Meridian. He was born April 8, 1947, to William Brown and Willie Murray (Clemmer) Thomas, in Ripley. He confessed to Christ at an early age and became a member of Moses Chapel United Methodist Church and was a faithful member serving as the trustee treasurer and choir member. He married Virginia Ann Storey on April 28, 1973.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Moses Chapel U.M.C. in Ripley, with the Rev. Sapada Thomas officiating. Interment is at Boyd Cemetery. Foster and Son is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann Storey Thomas; daughter, Alfreda Lynn (Anderson) Randolph; sons, George Sapada (Amy) Thomas and Gregory Andre Thomas; sisters, Martha Brooks and Billie Foote; sister-in-laws, Faye Cox, Pamela Storey and Dianne Simmons; brother-in-laws, Roger White, Early Ware and Roy Dale (Viola) Storey; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation is noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and family hour begins at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service.
ABERDEEN – Grace Devall, 91, died on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Care Center in Aberdeen. Services will be announced later by E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
BURNSVILLE – Martha Vanderford, 88, passed away June 16, 2013, at her home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McMillan Funeral Home.
SHANNON – Willie Frances Caldwell, 90, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery.

BELMONT – Mary Lou Emerson, 66, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at her nephew’s residence in Collins. She was born in Belmont and was a homemaker. She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont, with Bro. Shawn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery.
Survivors include her nephew, Jimmy Emerson (Belinda) of Collins; her aunt, Polly Pounders of Belmont; and great nieces and nephews, Amanda, Matthew, Michael and Gaylan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward and Irene Pounders Emerson; her brother, J.W. Emerson; and two infant children.
Pallbearers will be Alan Hutcheson, Harmon Davis, Rocky Hughes, Kane Harris, Jeff Mahan and Canaan Harris.

BELMONT – Bobby Keith Pardue, 49, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, in Ripley. He was born Nov. 28, 1964, in Red Bay. He was a skilled mechanic and he never met a stranger.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont, with Bro. David Gould officiating. Burial will be in Joel Cemetery.
He is survived by four children, Christopher Pardue, LeAnn Pardue, Toni Mariea Pardue and Bobby Joe Pardue, all of Hamilton, Ala.; seven grandchildren; his stepmother, Paula Pardue of Cherokee; four brothers, Wade Pardue, Tony Pardue, Johnathan Pardue and Corey Pardue; two sisters, Lori Pruitt and Megan Pardue Clements; special friend, Rejetta Jumper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Gene Pardue; and his mother, Wanda Lynch Pardue Holder.
Pallbearers will be Wade Pardue, Anthony Pardue, Corey Pardue, Shannon Clements, Chad Pruitt and Maxwell Powell.
Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont and until service time Wednesday.
WINFIELD, Ala. – Annie Lucille Leathers, 89, died Friday, June 14, 2013, in Winfield. She was born April 3, 1924, in Tishomingo County to William Roland Flanagan and Mary Elizabeth Croslin Flanagan. She was formerly of Red Bay and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Winfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala. with Bro. Sammy Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Red Bay.
Survivors include her sons, Marvin Lionel Leathers (Nancy) of Winfield, Myron Lynn Leathers of Winfield, William Cecil Leathers of Poplarville and Anthony Wade Leathers (Cynthia) of Winfield; six grandchildren, Marvin Lionel Leathers Jr. (Sally), Murray Taylor Leathers (Brittany), Justin Whitney Leathers (Kathy), Morgan Lacey Leathers, Abigail Denise Leathers, and Anthony Wade Leathers Jr.; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Junior Leathers; her daughter, Lucinda Leathers; her parents; and 13 brothers and sisters.

HOULKA – Doroty Etoyle Young Washington, 93, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Bruce Community Living Center. She worked at Indianapolis Glove Factory and Riveria Shirt Factory. She was a member of Buckhorn Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, Robbie Boyd (Bob) of Pontotoc, Paul Patterson (Glenda) of Senatobia, Howard Patterson (Nancy) of Senatobia and Harry Patterson (Donna) of Thaxton; brothers, John Darell Tribble (Becky) of Savannah, Tenn., and Hebbie Robertson of Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

ECRU – James “Jim” C. Poole, 49, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his residence. He was emplyed as first mate on Western Riverboat Barge Company. He was a musician who played guitar. He loved being with his family and was a caring and kind person who worked hard. He traveled abroad and enjoyed horseback riding and living life to the fullest.
Service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Tutor Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Wright officiating. Interment is at Friendship in Ecru.
He is survived by his mother, Cleo Moore; three children, Melissa Sprayberry of Pontotoc, Kevin Poole of Bruce and Whitney Scribner of Randolph; eight grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Clay of Birmingham, Ala., Reba Soden of Okolona, Rita Conwill of Amory and Pamela Mooneyham of Ecru; brothers, Jimmy Moore of Vardamen, Larry Moore of Thorn, Sammy Moore of Thorn, Gary Moore of Thorn, Lemueal Moore Jr. of Oklahoma, and Joel Moore of Huntsville, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lemueal H. Moore Sr.

IUKA – Edward L. Hubbard, 94, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, a past Worshipful Master and a 32 Degree Mason with the Burnsville Lodge No. 233 F&AM. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a purple heart recipient. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Edward Johnson and Bro. Ron Norvell officiating. Interment is at Holder Cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Booker (Herbert Doyle) of Iuka, Judy Mooney (Mike) of Brandon and Eddie Sue Hubbard of Iuka; four grandchildren, Kevin Booker, Beth Brown (Scottie), Ritchie Morton (Robin) and Carissa Morton (Taylor); and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Hubbard; his infant son, James Harold Hubbard; three sisters; and six brothers.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

BANKHEAD – William Durell Rowland, 98, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Graceland Care Center in Pontotoc. He was born Aug. 17, 1914, to James Edgar and Virgie Carne Rowland in Pontotoc County. He later married J.C. Maffett Rowland and shared several years together before her home going. He was a Christian and faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 55 years. He retired from Western Auto Store in Pontotoc.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist with Bro. Melvin Crawley and Bro. Tommy Inmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Cemetery.
He leaves behind one daughter, Betty James (Leo) of Pontotoc; two grandchildren, William Dayton Rowland (Mary) of Linden, Texas, and Emily Martin (Glenn) of Batesville; two great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law-Vivian Tutor Rowland of Linden, Texas, formerly of Pontotoc; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, J.C. Maffett Rowland; his parents, James Edgar and Virgie Rowland; two sons, Dewey Max Rowland and James (Jimmy) Edgar Rowland; and two brothers, Roy Rowland Jr. and James Marcus Rowland.
Pallbearers are Harper Maffett, Billy Montgomery, Michael Carne, Hubert Carne, Jimmy Byrd and Lyle Gentry.

TUPELO – Charlie Hughes, 80, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House. A St. Louis, Mo., native, he was born Nov. 12, 1932, to William and Hilda Smith Hughes. For the past 35 years he was a resident of Tupelo and the president of Day Brite Management Club. He enjoyed bowling and loved watching wrestling events with his grandsons. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall and Father Henry Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Hughes, Kathy Jones and Sue Hawkins (Mike), all of Tupelo; one son, Robert Hughes of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren, Adam Hughes, Dana Jones, Sonya Watkins, Wesley and Scotty Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Kylie and Amber Coggins, Joey Stephens and Mason Jones; and one sister, Jane Stevens of Norwood, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores Hughes; one daughter-in-law, Julie Hughes; one son-in-law, Joe Jones; a special grandson, Matt Hughes; and special sister-in-law, Mary Buss.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Adam Hughes, Wesley, Scotty and John Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother-in-laws, Tom, Ray, Jim and Rich Buss.
