NEW ALBANY – Evie Vimoia LaDell Byers Harris, 43, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at her residence. She was born Oct. 24, 1969, in Union County to Beford Junior Byers and Iva Nell Mardis. She attended North Haven School, where her late grandfather, George Beford Byers, worked as the school’s janitor. She enjoyed being around her grandchild, Carissa, and her nieces and nephews. She loved everyone she met, and was filled with God’s love. She was a member of the Church of Acts.

She is survived by her mother, Iva Nell Mardis of New Albany; her daughter, Crystil Byers (Morgan Fuller) of Myrtle; three sisters, Melaine Jeanntte Byers Gilliam of New Albany, Shena Elaine Byers Rhea (Chris) of Ingomar and Aundrea Inez Byers of Myrtle; a stepsister, Gale Mardis of New Albany; a brother, Timothy Junior Byers (Mary) of New Albany; a stepbrother, Jame Micheal Mardis (Amanda) of Alabama; one grandchild, Carissa Rena Fuller; and her caregiver, Cassandra Kizer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Beford Junior Byers; her stepfather, James L. Mardis; and her niece, Innette Reana Alexander.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Byers, Tyler Rhea, Chad Byers, Danny Gordon, Tyler Jarvis, Morgan Fuller and Markie Mardis. Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Mardis, Chris Todd and Rickey Alexander.

BREWER – James Lamar Long was born Feb. 9, 1944, to William Edgar Long and Earline Parks Long. He grew up in the Shannon area and graduated from Shannon High School in 1961. He married the love of his life, Donna Jean Billings, on June 22, 1963. He worked all his life with his second passion of operating heavy equipment. He found Jesus at an early age and spent hours studying the Bible, especially Revelations. He loved spending time with his grandkids, hunting, fishing and camping. He was known by all for his good natured spirit and easy smile.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Jim Manley and Deric Rea officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Donna Long of the Brewer community; two sons, David Lamar of Shannon and Tommy Long (Angel) of Amory; his grandchildren that he raised, David Michael Long and Corey Lee Long and also Marlee Jean Long, Pyper Layne Long and Nicky Long; three sisters, Sue Chism, Dale House and Melissa Fugua; his mother-in-law, Leona Davis of Pontotoc; one brother-in-law, Bobby Billings (Carol) of Pontotoc; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kay Coker; one brother, Charlie Herndon; two brother-in-laws, Eddie Coker and Elgin House.

BANKHEAD – William Durell Rowland, 98, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Graceland Care Center in Pontotoc. He was born on Aug. 17, 1914, to James Edgar and Virgie Crane Rowland in Pontotoc County. He married J.C. Maffett Rowland and shared many years together before her death. He was a Christian and a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 55 years. He retired from Western Auto Store in Pontotoc.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Monday, June 17, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Bro. Melvin Crawley and Bro. Tommy Inmon officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Cemetery. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.

SHANNON – Willie Frances “Ne Naw” “Ms. Willie” Caldwell, 90, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. A Tupelo native, she was born Sept. 2, 1922, to Frank and Saphronia McCollough West. She worked for Sarah’s Outlet and was a longtime Avon representative. She was the widow of Stanley Caldwell, who preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1980. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed singing gospel music, cooking, watching TV and was a great conversationalist. She was a member of Oak Valley Christian Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, June 18, at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Dale Carr, the Rev. Danny Horton and the Rev. Zack Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery.

BRUCE – Birtis Joyce Bryant, 94, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Pioneer Health Services in Newton. She was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Calhoun County. A former resident of Bruce, she had lived in Newton since 2006. She was a member of Rocky Mt. Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and she served alongside her husband in Southern Baptist churches in Mississippi and Louisiana. She was well known for her smile and laughter, her generous heart, her spirit of encouragement, her love for her family and above all her love for her Lord.

He worked in sales at Tremont Floral and Darrell Harp Enterprises for more than 30 years. He was a member of Mt. Olive Methodist Church. An avid community and church supporter, he was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather.

AMORY – Grace Devall, 91, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Care Center of Aberdeen. Born July 9, 1921, in Bigbee, she was a daughter of the late John Gainey and Dora Ridings Sloan. She married Roy Lee Devall on March 23, 1940. Growing up in the Carolina community, she was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Later moving to Smithville and Amory, she worked in the area garment plants, where she could do just about anything. Being raised in a big family, her family played an important part in her life, with God being her first priority. Possessing a great sense of humor and fun loving, she was able to turn the worst of situations into something good. She enjoyed singing, even getting the chance to sing on the radio, listening to music, gardening, and fishing and camping with her late husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Nona DeVall (Ray) of Dickinson, Texas; grandchildren, Jamie DeVall (Tracie) of Pasadena, Texas, and Michael DeVall of Dickinson; sisters, Una Newton of Amory and Dorothy Clay of Fulton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Afton Barrett and Martha Grace; and brothers, Johnny, Shirley and E.A. Sloan.
