Ray Strength

TUPELO – Ray Lee Strength, 74, died unexpectedly, Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Lake Willemina near Plantersville. Ray was born in Brackettville, Texas to William L. Strength and Semonia Martinez Strength. He graduated from Brewton High School, Brewton, AL. and joined the Alabama National Guard. A patriotic American serving in the U. S. Army, 101st Airborne, Master Sergeant Strength retired in l978 after 20 years active duty. He completed his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and ended his career at Fort Polk, Louisiana. His service included many meritorious metals and commendations. He married Shirley Anthony on Aug. 12, 1981, and after he returned from service. Ray and Shirley owned and operated 45 Stop & Shop in Shannon. He was a former member of the VFW and founder and longtime President of the local Vietnam Veterans of America affiliate, which his colleagues honored him by naming it Ray Strength Chapter 842. Retd. Mst. Sgt. Strength was pure military and supported all local and national causes for veterans including the Tupelo Veterans Park on Veterans Boulevard and, at his death, was actively involved in securing the Vietnam Veterans Wall Project to Veterans Park. A Baptist by faith, Ray enjoyed fishing and hunting, all outdoor activity, military reunions and talking and telling stories.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Chaplain Dr. Jerry Goldsborough officiating. A full military committal service will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4PM-6PM Today (Sunday) and from Noon-service time Monday, all at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland. Stepchildren Terry Anthony ( Becky ) of Tupelo, Ms, Mike Anthony ( Sandy ) of Albany, GA. Grandchildren Jamie Hall, Amanda Charrier (Mike ) of Leesville, Louisiana, Cory Johnson, Laura Rodriquez ( Rolando ) of North Carolina, Robert Rice of Norco, Louisiana, Jessie Strength ( Alexis ) of Surgar Land, Texas, step grand- children, Brice Anthony of Brooklyn, NY, Dusty Anthony ( Annalee ) of Newton, GA, Brandon Anthony of Albany, GA . He had 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and his grandson, Jamie Hall.

The Honor Guard from Fort Polk, LA will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the Vietnam Veterans Association of America.

Billy Joe South

FULTON – Billy Joe South, 77, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Courtyards Community Living Center. He was born October 23, 1935, in Itawamba County to Troy and Clocile Dulaney South. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1953 until his discharge January 4, 1964. He married Nelda Summerford October 19, 1956. His only child, Billy Fred, was born in Fulton in 1958. He opened Amoco Service Station on October 28, 1965. He started his towing service shortly after in 1967. Over the years, he had three different partners, Paul Summerford, James South, and Finis Pearce. He later turned over the reins to his grandson, Jordan South. He helped organize Dorsey Friendship Fire Department in 1986 and served as a volunteer firefighter until his passing. He was also a member and great supporter of Splunge Hunting Club.

He was a good Christian man and loved his community. He was the rock of his family, was a loving and devoted husband, and loved his son, daughter in law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was awarded the Itawamba County Good Citizen Award in 1998. He is a member of Harden’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He will be remembered by those who love him for his kindness and generosity. He lived life to the fullest every day, always had a joke to tell, and loved attending IAHS football games. Throughout the years, he greatly enjoyed showing horses, raising horses, and tending to South Farms.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Nelda South, of Fulton; one son, Billy Fred South (Sandi) of Fulton; three grandchildren, Brandi Kent (Jamie), Jordan South (Andrea), and Chandler South, all of Fulton. He also leaves three very special great-grandchildren, Carsten Kent, Delainey Kent, and Hanley South. Delainey was born on her Gran Gran’s 76th birthday, October 23 2011. He was also survived by his brother, James (Bammie)South; uncle, Pete Dulaney (Shirlene); aunt, Theola Grissom; and a host of very special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11am Monday June 3, 2013, in Fulton at Davis Event Center on ICC campus with Rev. Darrell Sanderson, Rev. Phillip Box, and Russ Crosswhite officiating. Burial will follow in Harden’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 5 to 9 p.m. and Monday morning 9 a.m. until service time. Senter Funeral Directors and McNeece-Morris Funeral Home are entrusted with arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Summerford, Rodney Summerford, Joel Summerford, Matthew Rock, Brock Pearce, Chip Prestage, Caeser Harrara, and Joe “Pooh” Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Tombigbee Electric Power Association employees, members of Dorsey Friendship Fire Department, Bill Milner, David Cole, Wayne Vail, Boyce McNeece, Teddy Bouchilon, J.W. Beasley, Wayne Thorn, Tom Douglas, Mackey Wade, Mike Deaton, Russ Gordon, and Skip Buchanan.

Claudette Price

NETTLETON – Claudette Price, 72, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at her home after an extended illness.

IUKA – Bonnie Ruth Glover Tucker, 83, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at McNairy Health Care Center in Selmer, Tenn.

Sharon Sterling

TUPELO – Sharon Brown Sterling, 60, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 17, 1952, in Cleveland to D.A. (Doc) and Evelyn Griffith Brown. She was a graduate of Bayou Academy and Delta State University. She was the homemaker of the family and enjoyed taking care of them. She adored her children and grandchildren. She also loved to cook for her friends and family.

Family graveside services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, in New Cleveland Cemetery with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Ray Funeral Home of Cleveland is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her three daughters, Angel Salley, Nikki Sterling, both of Tupelo, and Laura Salley Griffin of Cleveland, and Lisa Sterling; and her grandchildren, Brayden Salley, Kate Griffin, and Camille Griffin.

She was preceded in death by husbands Larry Salley of Cleveland and Wayne Sterling of Tupelo.

Gary Dill MANTACHIE – Gary L. Dill, 59, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his home. He was born March 19, 1954, to Windfield and Bessie Slay Dill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family, working on cars, and working in his garden.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Senter Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Burrows officiating. Burial will be in Mantachie Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Dill of Mantachie; son, Perryn (Deanna) Dill of Mantachie; son, Terry (Vickie) Dill of Mantachie; grandson, Anthony Dill of Mantachie; grandson, Hunter Dill of Mantachie; grandson, Austin Dill of Mantachie; grandson, Zachary Dill of Mantachie; granddaughter, Whitney Dill of Mantachie; brother, Steve (Virginia) Dill of Mantachie; several nieces and nephews; and three honorary grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Dill; father, Winfield Dill; brother, Marvel "Jaybird" Dill; half sister, Univee House; half sister, Mildred Belle; half sister, Mattie Rollins; and half brother, Marvin Dill.

Ruby Holcomb

UNITY – Ruby Holcomb, 91, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Jan. 23, 1922, to Charlie and Myrtle Hughes Newman. She was a member of the Unity Baptist Church. She was a retired cafeteria worker for Saltillo Schools. She enjoyed flower gardening.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Boutwell Officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Holcomb (Mary) of Unity and Danny Holcomb (Frankie) of Guntown; one daughter, Shonda Jones (Gene) of Saltillo; grandchildren, Tony Holcomb (Alice), Rosa Connally (Tom), Kimberly Lacey (Tony), and Tammy Banning (Dave); 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman Holcomb; her daughter, Deborah Lynn Patterson; four brothers; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Tony Holcomb, Nathan Holcomb, Jarrett Jones, Gene Jones, Tom Connally, and Ethan Cooper.

Fred Reiselt

CORINTH – Mr. Fred Reiselt died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his home. He was born July 19, 1931, in Camden, Ark. to Paul Carl Reiselt and Blanche Hendriks Reiselt. He graduated from Camden High School, where he was on the state champion track team, and also from the University of Arkansas with a degree in business. He was personal manager for Singer in Truman, Ark. before moving to Corinth, where he was personal manager for Wurlitzer. Mr. Reiselt served as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, golfer, and an Arkansas Razorback fan.

Mass of Christian Burial for Paul “Fred” Frederick Reiselt will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Richard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Hollingsworth Reiselt; sons, Fred Reiselt and his wife, Janie, Doug Reiselt and his wife, Michelle, and Bill Reiselt; daughter; Paula Gunn and her husband, Mike, all of Corinth; sister, Susan Quick and her husband, Eldon of Hollywood, Calif.; grandchildren; Michelle (Ben) Ramirez, Cliff (Sarah) Gunn, and Logan, Justin, Emma and Jake Reiselt; and two great-grandchildren, Ana and Christian Ramirez.

Mr. Reiselt was preceded in death by his parents.

Patsy Privett

TUPELO – Patsy Morgan Privett, 76, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Doctor’s Hospice in Fayetteville, Ga. Mrs. Privett was born on Nov. 27, 1936, in Monette, Ark., the only child of Jewel and Clara Morgan. She and her late husband, Leon, lived in Tupelo for over 30 years, where she was an active member of the East Main Church of Christ. A homemaker, Patsy was beloved by her only daughter, granddaughter and their families as well as her many friends in the Tupelo area. She had lived in Newnan, Ga. with her daughter for the last year.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Minister Gary Williams and Matthew Benefield officiating. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park on Joyner St. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today only.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth Howell and her husband, Cory of Newnan, Ga.; and her only granddaughter, Morgan Moran of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Leon Privett on June 25, 2004.

Kathy Kraft

BOONEVILLE – Kathy Irene Kraft, 53, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born May 28, 1960, in St. Louis to William Ladolph Asher and Ida Mae Pittman Asher. She was a member of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a factory worker. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and yard sales. She loved animals and the outdoors.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.C. Newby officiating. Following cremation, interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kraft; three sons, Tony Asher (Kelly Short), Richard Asher (Tina), and Andrew Palmer (Christy), all of Booneville; a daughter, Kathy Lovelace (Jeff Leopard) of Booneville; three brothers, William H. Asher (Patricia) and Roy Asher (Peggy) of Marshall, Ill., and Dallas Asher of Vincennes, Ind.; five sisters, Verna Reynolds (Paul), Mary Smith (Jerry), all of Booneville, Becky Davidson (Mark) of West Union, Ill., Tammy Case, and Pam Cornwell, both of Vincennes, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Lee Roberts; and a brother, Jimmy Dale Asher.

Pat Cleveland

GOLDEN – Patsy Dianne Carter Cleveland, 63, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at her home. She was born Dec. 12, 1949, to Ewell and Pauline Samples Carter in Fulton. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed running in the Susan G. Koman Race for Cure, shopping, decorating, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Senter Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Samples and Bro. David Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include son, Chris (Melissa) Cleveland of Golden; daugher, Lori (Robert) Gilmore of Dorsey; sister, Trish (Harold) Files of Golden; grandson, Alex (Kellsie) Ewing of Vina, Ala.; granddaughter, Lyndsey Oswalt of Dorsey; granddaughter, Katie Cleveland of Golden; grandson, Cody Morris of Dorsey; grandson, Hunter Cleveland of Dorsey; great-granddaughter, Aubree Ewing of Vina; uncle, Frank Samples of Sardis; special aunt and uncle, Beckie (Harold Dean) Cleveland of Golden; nephew, Chad (Morgan) Files of Mooreville; and niece, Ginger Webb of Golden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaither Cleveland; father, Ewell Carter; and mother, Pauline Carter.

Eli Owens

BELMONT – Eli Zachary Owens passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in Wadford City, N.D. at the age of 27. He was born Aug. 24, 1985, to Stan Owens and Becky Reilly Owens. He was a Mason with Masonic Lodge #237 in Belmont.

A public graveside Masonic service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Belmont City Cemetery with Bro. Caleb Ramey officiating. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Mallory Hutcheson Owens; his daughter Dalice Laine; and his son, Zachary Cooper.

He is also survived by his parents, Rebecca Reilly Owens and Stan Owens; his siblings, Nacole Owens (Chris Young), Jacob Owens (Kayla), Jessica Williamson (Nick), and Amanda Timbs (Clint); his grandmother, Ruth Christine (JC); his mother-in-law, Joy Storment Boutwell (Ron); his father-in-law, Carl Hutcheson; his sisters-in-law, Paige Hutcheson Poores (Jesse Jr.) and Christa Hutcheson Anderson (Derrick); his nieces, Layla Williamson, Addy and Sophie Poores, and Kilee Anderson; and his nephews, Colt Owens and Jamal Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Reilly, Dorman L. Owens, and Lela Owens.

Pallbearers will be D.J. Pate, Carl Hutcheson, Clint Timbs, Chris Young, Jesse Poores Jr., Nick Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Owens, and Colt Owens.

BRUCE – Thelma Lynn White, 77, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Graceland Health Care in Grenada. She was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Bruce. She was a retired cashier for Easy Way Produce in Memphis and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with Bro. Wayne Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Angie Stone (Edward) of Pittsboro; two sisters, Elizabeth Burlett of Florida and Faye Padden of New Jersey; and one brother, Luther Murphree of Houlka,

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Lela Murphree; her husband, Jeff White; and a sister, Martha Sue Murphree.
