NEW ALBANY – Majorie Foster Fenel, 60, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Hickory Flat to Richard Foster and Joeann Wilson Foster.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greater New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Christopher Smith officiating. Burial will be in Foster’s Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Belinda Foster of Chicago; her siblings, Benny (Tracy) Foster and William (Daisey) Foster of New Albany, Anthony (Ann) Foster of Detroit, Mich., Joseph Foster of Texas and Ozella (W.C.) Foster of Memphis; two grandchildren, one great-grandchildren.

Gladys West Grimes
RED BAY, Ala. – Gladys West Grimes, 85, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Care Center of Red Bay. She was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Alabama to James Arthur and Ethel Long Mitchell. She was a member of the Fulton Church of God of Prophecy and an avid mission worker. She was a seamstress for Itawamba Manufacturing Company for several years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Curtis Shelton, Bro. Marvis Bostick and Bro. Tim Winter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Grimes of Red Bay, Ala.; three daughters, Martha Kidd of Fulton, Patsy Savage (Tommy) of Mooreville and Cathy Fulton (Bro. Grady) of Natchez; two sons, Bro. Billy West (Kathy) of Eggville and Mike West of Fulton; two stepdaughters, Lynette Norris (Chester) of Fulton and Janice Johnson (Bro. Hal) of Smithville; two stepsons, David Grimes and Donal Grimes (Becky) of Red Bay; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Strickland (Calvin) of Memphis; one brother, Cecil Mitchell (Lorene) of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jack West, in 1998; and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Aubry Fulton, Steven West, Barry West, Jim Dodson, Bobby Wayne West and Noah Dodson.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time today.
NEW ALBANY – Shirley Faye Foster King, 47, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born May 20, 1962, in New Albany to Mary Riddle Foster and the late Willie Foster.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Palestine M.B. Church in Blue Mountain with the Rev. Patrick Washington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Charles King; her mother, Mary Foster; two children, Charlessa (Clifford) McKenzie and Charles Terrell King; two sisters, Pat (Robert) Finley and Angela Foster; three brothers, Marvin Foster and James Foster, all of New Albany, and Don (Cindy) Foster of Bartlett, Tenn.

John D. Evans
TUPELO – John D. Evans, 51, formerly of Ripley, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born June 18, 1957, in Ripley to Verlena Evans Hardin and the late Ellis Buger.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moses Chapel in Ripley. Burial will be in Boyd’s Cemetery in Ripley. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his mother, Verlena Hardin of New Albany; his siblings, William Mose Jr. of Racine, Wis., Casey Cox, Frankie Lee Cox and Charles (Jimmeal) Cox, all of Memphis, Elick Cox of Tallahassee, Fla., Stone Cox of Corinth, Eric Cox, James Cox and Joe Cox, all of Ripley, Angie Bardina Cox of Tupelo and Lena Mae (Larry) Spight of New Albany.

IUKA – Reba Hale Wood Puckett, 85, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Iuka. She was a retired seamstress and fashion designer. She loved her church and cooking for family and friends.
Following cremation, a private family memorial service will be held. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Dill (R.L.) of Iuka and Linda Josenhans of Pottsboro, Texas; one sister, Geneva Waldrup of Ypsilanti, Mich.; two grandchildren, Randy Dill (Kim) of Iuka and David McKinstry (Stephanie) of Pottsboro, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Leigh Ann Dill of Tupelo, Laura and Bryson Dill, both of Iuka, and Megan and Jordyn McKinstry, both of Pottsboro, Texas; and six nephews, Donald Waldrup (Donna), Stanley Waldrup and Ricky Waldrup (Sheryl), all of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Terry Hale and Jeffery Hale, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Gene Waldrup (Della) of Burnsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Wood; her parents, Paulie M. and Myrtle Norris Hale; and a brother, Paul Hale Jr.

MCCOMB – George Michael “Mike” Abernathy, 55, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his residence in McComb after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1953, in Jackson to George L. Abernathy and Hattie Jane Cook Abernathy. He grew up in the Smith community of Madison County and attended Flora Schools. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired meat market manager. He enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with Bro. Steve Purvis officiating. A private burial will follow in Chesterville Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to service time on Monday only.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Joshua Robinson of McComb; two stepchildren, Amanda Almaiita of New Orleans and Keith Johnson of Hammond, La.; one brother, Ralph Abernathy (Dixie) of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Thresia Joiner (Holland) of Tupelo and Sue Wilbur of the Auburn community; two grandchildren, Joshua Wesley Robinson and Jacie Elizabeth Robinson, both of McComb; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Billy F. Jackson
ACKERMAN – Billy F. “Bo Jack” Jackson died Thursday, June 18, 2009, after a brief illness. He was a resident of the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was a graduate of Ackerman High School, where he was a member of the football team. He was awarded a scholarship and attended East Mississippi Junior College, where he played football. He later attended Mississippi State University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Bill Jackson (Elsa) of Cypress, Texas; two daughters, Jan Taylor (Mike) of Hawkins, Texas, and Beth Theiss (Marty) of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Jeff, Tyler, Ryan, Isabel and Johann; three sisters, Lela Finney of Nettleton, Linda Weatherly (Danny) of Pontotoc and Betty Sue Summar (Lee) of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, C.W. Jackson (Judy) of Southaven and Bobby Jackson (Evelyn) of Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Arlin Jackson.
