Marie Stacy
NEW SITE – Marie Pauline Stacy, 91, of New Site passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Landmark Nursing Home in Booneville surrounded by her family. She was born on May 16, 1922, to Robert Charles “R.C.” and Emma Dodds. On Oct. 12, 1940, she married David Elijah Stacy and they shared their lives together until he passed away in 1971. The Lord blessed them with four boys and six girls during their years together. She was a homemaker and former employee at the Department of Human Services and Longwood Nursing Home for many years. She loved to sew, cook, draw and work in her garden, but most of all, she loved caring for her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 4, 2013, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Parman officiating. Burial will be in the New Site Cemetery.
She leaves behind a brother, Floyd (Imogene) Dodds of Booneville; a sister, Frances (Bob) Sweeney of New Site; her children, Jackie Stacy of Booneville, Linda DeWald of New Site, Cheryl (Dwight) Sparks of Marietta, Lloyd (Johnnie) Stacy of Booneville, Molly (Hugh) Fooshee of Pontotoc, Ruth (Larry) Green of New Site, Sue (Stan) Riddle of New Site; a son-in-law, Larry Johnson of New Site; Stan (Jeania) Stacy of New Site; Dan Stacy of Booneville; and 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Waiting to greet her home will be her parents, R.C and Emma Dodds; a sister, Virginia Loveless; her husband, David E. Stacy; a daughter, Debra Johnson; a son-in-law, Irvin DeWald; and a great-great-grandson, Mikey Horn.

Joseph Jones Jr.
DUMAS – Joseph E. “J.J.” Jones Jr., 58, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was born Nov. 28, 1954, to Joseph E. Jones Sr. and Emma Lucille Lee Jones. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of a convenience store in Booneville. He was a Daily Journal carrier for the Dumas and Pine Grove area and a truck driver for Fryar Sawmill for 30 years. He loved his family and was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, June 4, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Delaine Bishop Jones of Dumas; four daughters, Symanthia Guthrie (Allen) of Blue Springs, Shelia Mattox (Norman) of Sherman, Melissa Shouse (James) of Booneville and Angela Hancock (Shane) of Ripley; one sister, Bertha Ann Cobb of New Albany; and five grandchildren, Trey, Zack, Heather, Jasmine and Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Steve Gibens, Allen Guthrie, Norman Mattox, James Shouse, Shane Hancock, Stan Norris, Paul Gibens and Jerry McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be Hank Chapman, Royce “Hop” Gibens, Tyler Thomason and Robert A. Fryar.

Melissa Clemmer
BIRMINGHAM RIDGE – Melissa Bucy Clemmer, 52, died unexpected Sunday, June 2, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born in Tupelo on Oct. 8, l961, to Charles Clifford Bucy II and Virginia Madeline Tate. She grew up here and graduated from Clear Lake High School in Houston, Texas. She continued her education by receiving her B.S. degree in business from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacodoches, Texas. Afterward she worked for the state of Texas and in the private insurance industry. She later attended the University of Houston, receiving her required coursework in elementary education and library science. After returning to Lee County in l999, she began teaching at Verona Junior High School and, at her death, was librarian at Plantersville Elementary School. She was also night librarian at Northeast Mississippi Community College. A longtime member of the Beech Springs Freewill Baptist Church, she enjoyed taking care of her twins, gardening, photography and all pictures, traveling domestically and abroad and living life to the fullest.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Beech Spring Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Kizzire officiating. A committal service will follow immediately in the Bucy family plot at Saltillo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors and from noon to service time Thursday at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Cary Clemmer of Birmingham Ridge, whom she married in Harris County, Texas, on Nov. 12, 1988; her twin daughter and son, Quentin Clemmer and Peyton Clemmer of the home; grandchild, Joseph Matthew Menendez; her mother, Virginia “Jenny” Tate of Birmingham Ridge; two sisters, Jennifer Smith of Denver, Colo., and Elizabeth “Liz” Vance Lindsey of Houston, Texas; two nieces, Kayla Rae Lindsey and Madeline Lindsey; and special cousins, Anita Jo Bucy Long (Jimmy) and their families from Birmingham Ridge;
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Clifford Bucy II; her brother, Clifford Charles Bucy, III; and an infant sibling.
Pallbearers will be Grant Chandler, Will Morgan, Jeff McCord, Jim Long, Kris Greer and John Allen Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow teachers/school employees at Lee County Schools and the Library staff at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

James Whitaker
PALMETTO, Ga. – James Carlton Whitaker passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was a graduate of Tech High School in Atlanta and a 1954 graduate of Georgia Tech. He was employed by FMC for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlotte Hope Meaders Whitaker of Palmetto; and daughter, Charlotte Patricia “Patty” Whitaker of Rutherfordton, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Carlton and Ellie Mae Whitaker, and sister, Thelma Henshall.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn, Ga., with Dr. Larry Wilson and the Rev. Carla Carrabino officiating.

William Battle
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. – William Morris Battle passed away on April 7, 2013, after a long illness. He was born in Tupelo in 1928 and lived in Mobile, Memphis and Little Rock while in the mortgage banking business. He moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., in 2006. He was a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; a sister, Linda Faulconer of Danville, Ky.; a daughter, Elizabeth Jeter (John) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sons, William E. Battle (Diane) of Bradenton, Fla., and Robert C Battle (Marlene) of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Evelene Gafford
NEW ALBANY – Evelene Mary Gafford, 83, passed away Sunday, June 2, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born May 5, 1930, in New Albany to Curtis and Lizzie Taylor. She was retired from child care service. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at United Funeral Service in New Albany with Bro. Whitt Lewis officiating. Visitation will be from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two sons, Dan Gafford (Darlene) and Chris Gafford (Stephanie); four sisters, Tommie Jordan (Danny), Shirley Mitchell, Anglene Majors (DeWitt) and Jean Hall; two brothers, Daniel Taylor and Samuel Taylor; and two grandchildren, Rowan Gafford and Morgan Gafford.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtis Gafford; and two sisters-in-law, Jessie Taylor and Eva Taylor.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers and her Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

James Brownlee
DRESDEN, Tenn. – James Allen Brownlee, 52, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at his home in Dresden, Tenn. He was born March 25, 1961, in New Albany to Ray and Marjorie Brownlee. A 1980 graduate of Myrtle High School, he was a 1984 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he was a member of Farm House Fraternity. He worked as an enviromental specialist with the Tennessee Department of Health for more than 15 years. He enjoyed his years farming with his father. An avid reader of science fiction, he loved studying space exploration and technology, movies and building models. He was a devoted father and cherished his time with his children.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 7, at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Tommy Peters officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two children, Danielle Caitlyn Brownlee and Martin Chase Brownlee, both of McKenzie, Tenn.; and three siblings: David Brownlee of Memphis, Anne (Dave) Gullick of Collierville, Tenn., and Janice Brownlee Waller of Pontotoc.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William “Bill” Brownlee.

HICKORY FLAT – Brenda Gail Childers Howard, 53, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Oct. 6, 1959, in New Albany to Harold and Evelyn Beasley Childers. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hickory Flat. She was an employee of Masterbilt in New Albany.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Wayne Howard; her mother, Evelyn Childers of Hickory Flat; one son, Justin Allen Howard (Kristen) of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Diane Lollar (Cecil) and Reba Wilkinson (Warren), both of Hickory Flat; four brothers, John Vanzant (Jewel) of Hickory Flat, Tim Vanzant (Donna) of Mt. Pleasant, Allen Childers (Peggy) of Southaven and Larry Childers (Margie) of Hernando; and two stepgrandchildren, Kanin and Kali.
She was preceded in death by her father and one son, Gregory Howard.

Herman McMorris
SHANNON – Herman “Pete” McMorris Jr., 83, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Amory. He was born March 3, 1930, in Shannon to Herman McMorris Sr. and Daisy Rogers McMorris. He was a Christian and a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He grew up in St. Louis and worked in the lumber business with his father. After relocating to Mississippi, he worked on the shipping dock at Reed’s Manufacturing in Tupelo. He was considered a friendly and kind-hearted man by his family who enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Services will be 3 p.m. today, June 4, at Eck & Georgia Shumpert Memorial Chapel of N.L. Jones Funeral Directors with the Rev. George Kendrick officiating. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery in Shannon. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his stepson, reared as his own son, Ollie Earl Moore of Shannon; grandchildren, D’Army Willis of Clarksdale, Jessica (Hershall) Hunter and Alicia Gordon of Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Antony, Cam’ron, Luke, Nicholas, Jada and Madison; mother of his grandchildren, Leatha Gordon; brother-in-law, Tom Albert Johnson of Shannon; sisters-in-law, Arnetta Baker and Bobbie Ford of Shannon, and Emma Dean Daniels of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita McMorris; his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy and Shirley.

Dorothy Martin
BRANDON – Dorothy Ruth Tinnin Martin, 82, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at her home in Brandon. She was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Inverness to Eustace ElRey Tinnin and Kathryn Ruth Ramey Tinnin. She had been a resident of Brandon for 23 years. She taught school in both the public schools and private schools for more than 35 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved to do for others. She loved her family very much and enjoyed family gatherings. She loved teaching, cooking, sewing, reading and working in her yard. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter Neal Martin of Brandon; son, Walter Neal Martin Jr. (Suzan) of Saltillo; daughter, Kathy McDill (Mark) of Pearl; four grandchildren, Laura Hunt, Jessica Martin, Mary Elizabeth Martin and Hunter McDill; one great-grandchild, Saylor Hunt; and two brothers, Ramey Tinnin (Charlotte) and Bill Tinnin (Madine), both of Inverness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Portwood; a brother, ElRey Eustace Tinnin; and a grandson, Zachary Neal Martin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Inverness Cemetery at Inverness.

MOOREVILLE – Mae Evelyn Clouse Thornton, 87, died Monday, June 3, 2013, at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1926, to Jeff and Clara Cockrell Clouse. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a member of Fawn Grove Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Booker officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Gary Thornton (Kathy) of Benton, Ark.; two daughters, Ann Mitchell (J.B.) of Mooreville and Mitzi Reape (Donnie) of Brighton, Tenn.; two sisters, Ethel Smith of Shiloh and Estelle Keith of Mooreville; seven grandchildren, Tim Mitchell, Kristi Butler, Summer Baird, Brandon Thornton, Dana Kenyon, Taylor Reape and Trevor Reape; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 70 years, Paul Thornton, who died April 7, 2013.

CEDAR BLUFF – Mary Dye Brand, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. She was born June 10, 1920, in Calhoun County in the Derma community to Willie Mae Ward and Reginald E. Dye. She was a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was married to Bill Brand; he preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1968.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Bro. David Keen officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Chickasaw County. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Dendy of Woodland; four sons, Billy W. Brand of Colora , Md., Lonnie E. Brand and Bobby K. Brand (Pat), both of Cedar Bluff, and Roger D. Brand (Tracie) of West Point; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward Brand; her daughter, Mary Ann Hooker; and two brothers and five sisters.

RIPLEY – Justin Tay Smith, 28, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at his residence in Ripley. He was born May 30, 1985.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Drewery Adams of Olive Branch, and his fathers, David Adams and Tay Smith (Denna), all of Ripley; his grandparents, Taylor and Betty Smith of Ripley and Jane Lewellen of Ripley; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

TUPELO – Kenneth Dean Gillen, 60, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his residence. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served 22 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with the Rev. David Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Ingomar Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Tabitha Gillen Johnson (Thomas) of Jackson, Tenn.; his son, Ken Gillen Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother, Mauna Sue Gillen of Pontotoc; two sisters, Delinda “Susie” Gillen of Tupelo and Brenda Gillen Wood of Mooreville; and three grandchildren, Clayton Weymouth, Dakota Weymouth and Chloe Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his father, Knox Leighton Gillen.
Pallbearers will be Justin Blaylock, John Martin, Rannie Barnett, David Blaylock, Thomas Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

Keith Johnson
BOONEVILLE – Charles Keith Johnson, 53, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1959, in Prentiss County to Charles Hayden Johnson and Anita Allen Johnson. He was a carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed yard work, NASCAR and motorcycles.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today, June 4, at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Jerry Childs officiating. Burial will be in Jacinto Church of Christ Cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Jarret Johnson (Candice) of Rienzi; his mother, Anita Johnson of Booneville; two sisters, Renee Warnicke (John) of Booneville and Michelle Humphrey (David) of Jacinto; and a grandchild, Jaxon Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Johnson; a brother, Phillip Johnson; and a sister, Sharon Johnson.

Patricia Tillman
BROOKHAVEN – Patricia Lynn Tillman, 58, died Saturday, June 1, 2013. She was born July 22, 1954, in West Point to Dr. Charles P. Tillman Sr. and Nettie McCarty Tillman. Devoted to her career, she was name Employee of the Year at New Haven Recovery Center twice and lacked only two classes to complete her masters degree at the age of 58. A loving mother, grandmother “Nay Nay,” daughter, sister and friend, she had a love for God and a love for her children and grandchildren, especially her grandson, Caiden Long.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Songs of Praise Worship Center in Crystal Springs.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston with Bro. Brian Tillman officiating. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Danica Lynn (Kenny) Hyde of Terry; her son, Caleb Leath (Catherine) Tillman of Madison; her mother, Nettie McCarty Tillman of Houston; four grandchildren, Caiden Long, Mackenzie Hyde, Jennings Tillman and Semmes Tillman; three sisters, Norma (James) Neill of Keller, Texas, Nancy (Rick) Whirley of Monroe, Ga., and Beverly (Carl) Smetko of Newport Coast, Calif.; one brother, Charlie (Joetta) Tillman of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles Tillman Sr.
