Jean Gentry
PONTOTOC – Annie Jean Gentry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 27, 2013. She was a resident of Pontotoc County most of her life. The last years of her life she spent in the precious care of the staff at Pontotoc Nursing Home. She was a retired bookkeeper, who loved to sew, read and watch Star Trek. She loved her Lord and her family with all her heart and soul.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Jimmy Russell officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery.
She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Cortez Gentry; three daughters, Judy Montgomery (Kenneth) of Toccopola, Kathy Whitt of Lake Wylie, S.C., and Barbara Holloway (Bobby) of Pontotoc; one son, George Gentry of Tupelo; two sisters, Wilma Kelly of Chesterville Community and Pearl Treat of Brentwood, Calif.; one brother, George Hart of Central Point, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Roger Gentry, Michael Gentry, Lyle Gentry, Barry Gentry, Ryan, Robert and Rhett Stegall.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the funeral home.

Keith Kennedy
AMORY – Keith B. Kennedy, 51, died on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his residence. Born on June 9, 1961, in Amory, he was a son of the late Malley Buckhannon “Buck” and Ruth Elvis Manasco Kennedy. He was a graduate of North State Academy in Hickory, N.C. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Appalachian State University. He began working at a local drug store in Hickory before managing the operations of Hickory Furniture. After moving to Amory, he worked with his parents at Value Craft and later owned and operated Amory Fabric Store. Currently working in real estate, he owned several rental homes.
A member of First Baptist Church, he was in the Sunday school class taught by Travis Murray. Loving, generous and having a big heart, he enjoyed helping others, traveling, caring for animals and serving on jury duty. He was a supporter of Amory Humane Society.
He is survived by his aunts, Shirley Parchman, Ina Phillips (Bobby) and Purney Lee (Arlis) of Amory.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jim Parchman, Oliver Stanley, Todd Stanley, William “Red” Reeves, Stephen Reeves, John Creekmore and Travis Murray. Honorary pallbearer will be Lawrence Stevens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

HOUSTON – Gerry Prophette Sr., 59, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was formerly of Houston.
Services will be at noon Saturday at True Bible Way in Houston. Burial will be in Houston City Cemetery. Montgomery Mortuary of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.

OKOLONA – James “Bro” Cunningham, 105, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Shearer Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Williams Memorial of Okolona.
George Wheeler Jr.
BELDEN – George Wheeler Jr., 59, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, as the result of an auto accident in Pontotoc, County. He was a 1974 graduate of Belden High School. He was a member of God’s House of Prayers. He was employed with P.T.L. Trucking Company for many years. He enjoyed going to church, and playing music with his brother, cousins and church members. He was loved by many and was a very kind person who loved and got along with everyone.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at God’s House of Prayer Church at Belden. Pastor James Fitzpatrick will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Wheeler; one brother, Lamar (Evelyn) Wheeler; two sisters, Anita Wheeler and Vanessa Wheeler, all of Belden; a special friend, Betty Davis; and several, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Wheeler Sr.; and his grandparents, James and Lou Ollie Wheeler, and Robert Lee and Hattie Montgonery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Word, Josh White, Perry Montgomery, Kevin Montgomery, Joe Mallard and Tommy Montgomery.
Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the J.W. Porter’s Chapel. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

CLINTON – Rosalind “Ros” Morris, 68, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at her home in Clinton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton. A graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Aberdeen. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Vergie M. Harris of Aberdeen; her sons, John W. Morris (Angela) of Tunica, Thomas J. Morris of Frisco, Texas, and David S. Morris (Julie) of Bolton; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis E. Harris, and sister, Jenny Ruth Harris.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ann Hopkins
BALDWYN – Ann Foster Hopkins, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born in Itawamba County on Jan. 31, 1934, to John and Deena Yeager Foster. She was a homemaker and a resident of The Meadows in Fulton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Jeff Horton officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Tyson Foster, Loy “Joe” Foster and Ellis Foster; sisters, Nadine Wright, Ozelle Sheffield, Merle Blassingame and Jimmie Lou Houston; and a special niece, Judy Leppard.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday.

Margaret Acree
THAXTON – Margaret Poyner Acree, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was employed at General Electric for 25 years. Later in life she went to nursing school and became a nurse, eventually retiring. She loved to sit with family and friends needing medical attention. She graduated from Bruce High School in 1956.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. The Rev. Billy Ray Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Guinn Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Reedy; a granddaughter, Terran Reedy; a grandson, Corey Reedy; a great-grandson, Colyn West; sisters-in-law, Winnie Poyner and Carlene Poyner; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Emmie Poyner; three brothers, Horace, James and Frank Poyner; and a nephew, Len Poyner.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Pollye Pratt
POTTS CAMP – Pollye Catherine Pratt, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Alliance Healthcare in Holly Springs. She was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Potts Camp. She was a florist and a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Don Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery in Potts Camp.
Survivors include her husband, Hardy Randall Pratt of Potts Camp; one son, Randy Gresham of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters, Cindy Kirk of Myrtle and Jasmine Lo Hall of Macon, Ga.; two brothers, Arthur Poole and Malcolm Poole, both of Potts Camp; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George R. Poole and Mary Barber Poole.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WEST POINT – Charlie Sawyer, 70, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy E. Gunn
RIPLEY – Jimmy Earl Gunn, 50, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home in Ripley. He was born July 14, 1961, to Denis Spight and Dorothy Gunn Prather. He accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia M.B. Church in Walnut.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Foster and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hopkins Cemetery in Walnut.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Johnson Gunn of Ripley; his mother, Dorothy Wallace Prather of Tiplersville; his father, Denis Spight of St. Louis; one daughter, Pamela Spells of Chicago; three stepchildren, Mitzi Johnson, Raymond (Valerie) Luster and Justin Luster, all of Ripley; brothers, Travis Bell of Greenfield and David Prather of Falkner; sister, Theresa Bell of Tiplersville; stepsisters, Dotty (Edward) Hinds of Tiplersville and Malissa Prather of Ripley; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Lee and Virginia Gunn; and a brother, Anthony Bell.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family time from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The body will lie in repose at the funeral home one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Polly Drane
STURGIS – Pauline Clara Mixon Drane, 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Houston to Agnes Larkin and William Jahugh Mixon. She and her husband owned Drane Hardware in Sturgis. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women and the Wesley Wasson Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star and on the board of Dugan’s Memorial Home. She volunteered at the Henry Clay Retirement Home, where she was a resident since 1995.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Sturgis Cemetery. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Hill of West Point; brother, Tom Mixon (Jo) of Arlington, Texas; sister, Margaret Mixon Stafford of Philadelphia, Pa.; and granddaughters, Susan Hill of Memphis and Amy Hill Dickey (Hamilton) of Atlanta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John James Drane; and a brother, Berti Mixon.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

Dexter G. Taylor
FULTON – Dexter G. Taylor, 93, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at The Meadows in Fulton. He was born Jan. 21, 1920, to William P. Taylor and Savada “Maggie” Magnolia Gann Taylor. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a carpenter during his working years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and being outdoors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Howard Curbow and Bro. Bob O’Neal officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Lavelle (Troyce) Taylor of Golden and Barbara (Robin) Thornton of Saltillo; four granddaughters, Cindy (Joel) Horn of Golden, Sherri (Chris) Telaga of Huntsville, Ala., Amy (Cory) Dewett of Guntown and Sarah (Brad) Bates of Jonesboro, Ark.; four great-granddaughters, Ashley Horn, Kelsey Horn, Maggie Telaga and Addison Dewett; two great-grandsons, Garrett Telaga and Brayden Dewett; brother, R.C. Taylor of Fulton; and sister, Christine Gentry of Fulton.

Nora Lee Samples
ALPINE – Nora Lee Samples, 6 months, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home. The daughter of Brad and Kelly Roberts Samples, she was born in Tupelo on Aug. 17, 2012. She was such a blessing and joy for her family and friends. Her loving face will be missed by all.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Felix Hutcheson Jr. and Bro. Joe Coggins officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Creek Cemetery.
Survivors include her parents; brothers, Tyler Thompson of the home, Cody Samples of the Jugfork community and Dakota Samples of Pontotoc; sister, Lexie Samples; her grandparents, John “ J.C.” and Agnes Samples of Alpine, and Jerry and Cynthia Roberts of Baldwyn; uncles, John Samples (Gina), Bob Tackett of Alpine and Kevin Roberts (Miranda) of Endville; aunt, Nancy Etheridge (Jesse) of Baldwyn; and special aunt, Marilyn Ferguson of Baldwyn.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Medford and Mary Lou Roberts, and Synder and Willodean Ferguson.

Johnny Watkins
TUPELO – Johnny Joe Watkins, 65, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Shannon. He was born Nov. 15, 1947, to Levi Watkins and Jeanette Brown Watkins. He received his education at Carver School and graduated in 1969 from Shannon School. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and a truck driver for 35 years.
A candlelight service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist Church in Verona. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Watkins of Shannon; his father, Levi Watkins of Verona; two daughters, Tonya Birmingham of Shannon and Lenarge Watkins Adam of Verona; two sons, Joshua Watkins and Johnny Fells, both of Tupelo; two sisters, Janice Banks of Guntown and Rhonda Watkins of Verona; four brothers, Bennie Watkins, Jerry Watkins, David Watkins and Phillip Watkins, all of Verona; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
