Libby Fuller
LUBBOCK, Texas – Elizabeth “Libby” Gross Fuller, 71, formerly of Iuka, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. She was of the Church of Christ faith. She was a retired registered nurse. She was a proficient artist and enjoyed reading.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Lance Foster will officiate. Interment will follow in Burnsville Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Jodie Lopez of Lubbock, Texas; one son, Chris Ruleman of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Eddie Gross of Owasso, Okla.; and four sisters, Linda Boyce of Collierville, Tenn., Judith Burns of Cherokee, Ala., Jemmy Todd of Dallas, Texas, and Eileen Spivey of Florence, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Inez Helton Gross.
Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the funeral home.

Mary Fields
TUPELO – Mary Elbert “Sis” Fields, 75, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 18, 1937, to Elbert “Candy” Fields and Martha Owens Fields. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Poplar Springs CME Church. She graduated from the Okolona Public Schools and attended Okolona College. She was employed by Arvin Industries, Reed’s Manufacturing and Bryan Foods, and retired from North Mississippi Medical Center Dietary Dept. in Tupelo.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Springs CME Church in Shannon. Burial will be in Mullen Cemetery at Nettleton. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her companion of 34 years, Randy Hughes; three sons, Terry and Tyrone Fields of Tupelo, and Ricky (Vickie) Fields of Shannon; two daughters, Lisa (David) Goree of Shannon and Tammy Fields of Tupelo; four sisters, Mary E. Sanders, Curmie (Herbert) Arnold and Martha Sue Fields, all of Nettleton, and Joyce (John Albert) Brook of Shannon; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one aunt, Elizabeth Owens; nieces, nephews and cousins; a longtime friend, Bridgett Elliott; and her special niece and caregiver, Nevia Ligon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, George and Mary Owens, and William Henry and Lillie Mae Fields; two brothers, McArthur “Big Jim” and Larry Fields; a son, Johnny Fields; a grandson, Lemiro Fields; and a granddaughter, Laken Goree.

Dell Plunkett
CORINTH – Delton “Dell” Plunkett, 81, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home. He was born July 7, 1931. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army and recipient of the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, United Nations Service Medal, three Overseas Service Bars, Vietnam Service Medal with four Campaign Stars, Republic of Vietnam Medal K/60 Device, Korean Service Medal with five Campaign Stars and Parachutist Badge. He was employed by the State of Mississippi Employment Service. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Mission.
Services were Friday, March 1, at Corinthian Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Edwards officiating. Burial was in Corinth National Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Plunkett of Corinth; one child, Dale Plunkett of Corinth, Texas; one brother, Eldon Plunkett, and one sister, Thelma Dulany, both of Fulton; two grandchildren, David and Michael Plunkett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Lennie Pate Plunkett; a brother, Clinton Ray Plunkett; and a sister, Leera May Lindsey.

Thelbert Rooks
OXFORD – Thelbert “Doc” Rooks, 61, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford.

EUPORA – Willene Henley Shaw, 83, formerly of Hollandale, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Eupora.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora. Burial will be in North Union Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Rodgers
MYRTLE – Linda Sue Minor Rodgers, 51, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 10, 1961, in Helena, Ark., to James Talmadge Minor and Kathleen Norris Oliver Minor. She was a line supplier at Ultra Comfort Foam in New Albany and a member of the Poolville Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Harrison and the Rev. Steavon Ball officiating. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Danny “Jack” Rodgers of Myrtle; a daughter, Melissa Turner (Timmy) of Myrtle; a stepdaughter, Susie Collins (Kenny) of Walnut; two stepsons, Billy Jack Rodgers of Myrtle and Danny Riley (Donna) of Potts Camp; five sisters, Jo Ann Fisk (Dudley) of Bruce, Betty Redwine (Gene) of Bruce, Becky Robbins (Jeff) of Pontotoc, Mary Mays (Richard) of Hickory Flat and Cathy Sturrock (Buddy) of Gilmore, Texas; three brothers, Billy Minor (Vickie) of Oxford, Dearl Minor of Hickory Flat and Gary Minor of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Hunter Malone, Courtney Malone, Emory Malone, Dustin Malone, Elizabeth Turner and Linda Joe Turner; 13 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Daniel McCord, Josh Rodgers, Chris Redwine, Mike Owens, Ronnie Owens and J.J. Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hubert Pounds
NEW SITE – Hubert Ray Pounds, 71, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at his home in New Site. He was born May 5, 1941, to Hubert and Eva Pounds. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and he was a farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Pounds of New Site; one daughter, Lisa Pounds of New Site; three sons, Kerry (Linda) Pounds of Mooreville, Gary Pounds of New Site and Danny (Christy) Pounds of New Site; two sisters, Dean Chromeans and Marie Mooreland, both of New Site; three brothers, Johnny, Roy (Faye) and Wilford (Glenda) Pounds, all of New Site; 15 grandchildren, Justin, Sumer, Tyler, Jacob, Karly, Jesicca, Kolby, Blake, Josh, Tessia, Bryson, Paige, Brandon, Levi and Madison; and four great-grandchildren, Cayden, Lexi, Braydon and Lyric.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mauvine Clark; and four brothers, Wilbur, Guy, Hershel and Randle Pounds.

Annie Barton
DENHAM SPRINGS, La. – Annie Wilma Wells Barton, 98, formerly of Calhoun City, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Harvest Manor Nursing Home in Denham Springs, La. She was born June 17, 1914, in Webster County. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City. Bro. Bill Baker and Bro. Dwight Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Springs Cemetery at Derma.
She is survived by one son, Roy Charles (Gloria) Barton of Denham Springs, La.; one sister, Margie Wells Johnson of Starkville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Aubrey Barton; two sons, Jerry Barton and Bill Barton; grandson, Billy Ralph Barton Jr.; parents, Thompson Wells and Annie Belle Love Wells; four sisters, Inez Wells Lyons, Labonne Wells O’Neal, Murlee Wells Pyles and Bobbie Wells Gilder; and three brothers, J.D. Wells, Clovis Wells and Lamar Wells.
Pallbearers will be Roger Gillespie, Miles Barton, Jacob Gillespie, Alan Johnson, Marty Barton and Joe Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be John Savoy and the men of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Stella White
THAXTON – Stella Dean White, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Oxford. She was a homemaker who loved her family and her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and being outside with nature.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Bro. William Milam and Bro. Michael Bishop will officiate. Burial will follow in Turnpike Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Freddie Lee White; a son, Freddie White Jr.; daughters, Ruby Hudson (Jimmy), Debra Bishop (Walter), Laura Bishop (Kenneth), Kathy Holloway (Alan); 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John David Milam of Oxford, Dudley Milam of Grapevine, Texas, Robert Milam of Sardis; four sisters, Josephine Stevens of Sardis, Avis Whitt of Clarksdale, Agnes Holloway of Carrolton and Winnie Cyr of Pontchatoula, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David Milam and Christine Milam; a daughter, Stella Christine Carwyle; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Price White.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Carwyle, Barry Carwyle, Thomas “Skip” White, Buddy White, Tyler Purdon, Matthew Holloway, Randy Sisco and Billy Joe White. David and Jonathan White will be honorary pallbearers.

Allie Williams
SULLIGENT, Ala. – Allie M. Williams, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Ala. Born April 7, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Gabe and Sarah Brown Silas. She was raised and attended school in Smithville. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a seamstress for area garment plants, retiring from Townhouse/Penthouse Furniture. A lady of faith, she loved her family dearly, and enjoyed visiting with her friend, Shirley Millican. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gospel and country music, especially George Jones, crocheting, flower gardening, and working word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hudnall (Bill) of Sulligent, Ala.; son, Joey Williams of Tupelo; grandchildren, Shane Williams (Sandy) and Halle Hudnall; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Matthew Williams, Andrew Shackelford and Alex Minchew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mattie Hathcock, Claudia Jones, Velcie Cavendar and Emogene Simmons; and her brother, G.C. Silas.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at E.E. Pickle Funeral in Amory with Bro. Mike Tucker and Bro. B.J. Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lance and Shane Murray, Rick Kimble, Jonathan Jones, Michael Stevens, Brian McCollum, Travis Hathcock and Brandon Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be Hilbert Hathcock, Danny Lovelady, Billy Jones, Mack Simmons and Brent Sutton.
Visitation will be from noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Joe Thaxton
MANTACHIE – Joseph Williamson Thaxton died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Sturgis to George Robert and Annie Mae Roberts Thaxton. In 2012, he celebrated 60 years of marriage to his wife, Burvil Hankins. His life was rooted in his love for and faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Mantachie, where he sang in the choir. He was also active in the Itawamba County Historical Society and he was a longtime member of Lions Club International.
After graduating from Corning High School (Ark.), he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Mediterranean and played the string bass and bass horn in the Navy band. Trained in engineering, he worked as a seismograph operator, exploring for oil in the U.S. and Europe. Later, he was a biomedical engineer at Memphis City Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, where he retired in 1992.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Mantachie with Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Burvil Hankins Thaxton; two daughters, Deborah Jo Eaton (Gary) of Germantown, Tenn., and Pamela Anne Liljeberg (Robert) of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren, Faith Caroline Eaton, Robert Louis Liljeberg III, Erika Anne Liljeberg, Madison Ashley Liljeberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Isabel Callahan
ATLANTA – Isabel Foster Dillard Callahan, 91, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013. A beloved mother and grandmother, she had been living the past five years in the Atlanta area near her granddaughter, Cindy Hoddy, and daughter, Carolyn Buchans. For many years she lived in Tennessee with her husband of over 30 years, Joe Callahan, now deceased. The daughter of Joe Ballard and Dow Foster, she was born and raised in Pooleville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at United Funeral Service in New Albany. The Rev. Luther Bagwell will officiate. Burial will be in Ingomar Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Buchans; four grandchildren, Cindy Hoddy, Crystal Buchans, Amiee Hales and Jacque Himbert; four great-grandchildren, Alison Homan, Emily Dean, Phillip Dean and Audrey Buchans; and two great-great-grandchildren, Cayden and Brooks Holman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Martha Himbert; brothers, Cleve and Woodrow Foster; and her sisters, Evelyn Coker and Edna Bagwell.

CORINTH – The Rev. Roy Preston Latch, 81, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.

Lottie Sprous
NEW ALBANY – Lottie Ruth Benefield Sprous, 71, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Darlington Oaks in Verona. She was born Dec. 18, 1941, in New Albany to David Andrew and Wilma Jeter Sprous. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army. She was a retired furniture factory worker and a member of Fredonia Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Funeral Service in New Albany with the Rev. Chris Madison officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park in New Albany. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Mona Sprous of New Albany; one stepson, David Sprous of Desoto, Mo.; one sister, Jamie Robbins of New Albany; one brother, Sim Benefield of New Albany; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Penaloza and Cory Sprous; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Sprous; and her son, Ray Sprous Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Marcia Higgs
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Marcia Nadine Higgs, 95, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. She was born in San Diego, Calif., on July 5, 1917. Although she was born in the United States, she spoke fluent Spanish, learned from her South American upbringing. She lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Florida; Washington D.C.; and many other parts of the world. She loved to ride horses and was an avid traveler, always in the quest of knowledge. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L. Randolph Higgs; her sister, Mary Annette Lindgren Shaw; and her nephews and niece, Keith and Kenneth Shaw, and Karen Shaw Gajdos.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Shannon Cemetery with Father Henry Shelton officiating. Reception for family and friends will follow the graveside at the First Baptist Church of Shannon. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of local arrangements. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
