COURTLAND – Matthew Taylor Cross, 74, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital.
Services will be Wednesday. Private burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Elliott Funeral Home of Moulton, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
GOLDEN – Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Parrish, 37, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Red Bay Holy Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Golden. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will continue until service time today at the church.
CORINTH – Sheila Guynes, 57, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at her mother’s home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meeks Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today and continue until service time.
ECRU – Lucille Simmons, 95, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 26, 1915, to John Nelson Hawkins and Nora Moore Hawkins. She lived in Pontotoc County until she moved to Magnolia Manor two years ago. She was retired from Rivera Mfg. in Pontotoc. She was an excellent cook, kept an immaculate house, and loved growing flowers and decorating her home. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Jimmy Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Ecru Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a nephew, six nieces and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Taz Simmons and A.B. McDonald; an infant son; two sisters, Effie Simmons and Jewel Montgomery; and two brothers, Elmer Hawkins and Carlton Hawkins.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today.
PONTOTOC – Mary Elizabeth Ross, 84, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her son’s home in the Shady Grove community. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David Barnett and Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her two daughters, Patsy Nolley (Larry) and Melissa “Missy” Russell (Chris); her two sons, Dickey Ross (Doris) and Tim Ross (Marilyn); 10 grandchildren, Tammy Hall, Keith Nolley, Kevin Nolley, Jennifer Horton, Dana Hitt, Jason Ross, Kim Garrett, Corey Ross, Lauren Hill, Hayden Hill, Rhett Russell and Rayna Russell; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Iler Mae Curtis Dowdy; her husband, Collins A. Ross; her sister, Betty Dean Harkness; and a brother, Waymond Quay Dowdy.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Nolley, Jason Ross, Corey Ross, John Garrett, Stacy Horton and Jimmy Hitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Horton, Aron Horton, Keith Hill, Matt Hogue, Will Faust and John Ross Garrett.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church.

GUNTOWN – Buford Franks, 76, of Friendship, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was retired and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR and spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Jarrell officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home of Baldwyn in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Franks of Guntown; four daughters, Reginia Van Briesen and Debbie Sowka, both of Illinois, Patti Franks of Arizona and Kayla Franks of the home; three sons, Jimmy Franks and Buford A. Franks Jr., both of Arizona, and Troy Allen Franks (Velvet) of Guntown; two sisters, Brenda Hunt (Billy) and Shirley Franks of Guntown; a brother, Harlon Franks (Hilda) of Guntown; a sister-in-law, Lucille Franks of Baldwyn; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Voy and Gertrude Franks; and his brothers, Eugene Franks and Clifton Franks.
Pallbearers will be Brandon, Brett and Greg Hawkes, Wesley Floyd, Devin Dickey and William Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Allen Franks, Troy Allen Franks Jr., Rob Rawson, Adam Floyd and Aaron Floyd.
The body will lie in state at Friendship Church from 11:30 a.m, until service time Wednesday.

OKOLONA – Huey Leon “Leedie” Lamb, 70, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 20, 1940, in Pontocola to Hoyle and Minnie Lamb. He was a longtime truck driver, most recently with Ethridge Trucking. He was a Baptist. He enjoyed playing dominoes, camping, gardening and fishing. He loved his family and spending time with his grandkids.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Lamb of Okolona; three daughters, Cindy Lamb of Okolona, Michelle (Patrick) Mason of Shannon and Janice Lamb of Verona; two sons, Barry (Vickie) Lamb of Dorsey and Gary (Melinda) Lamb of Trebloc; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herman Lamb and Fred Lamb; and one sister, Annabelle Bramlett.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Kennedy, Daniel Lamb, Shane Mason, Chad Mason, Jason Mason, John Ivy, Don Hand and Shawn Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Allen Lamb Jr., Robert Lamb, Andrew Lamb and Brooks Watkins.
