Russell Yarborough
TUPELO – William Russell Yarborough, 82, died on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on Aug. 21, 1930, in Webster County to William Hubert Yarborough and Willie Bell Latham Yarborough. In 1948, he graduated from Eupora High School, where he was class president and MVP of the football team. He attended Sunflower Junior College, where he was awarded a football scholarship. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 31st Infantry Division. In 1954 Russell graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in accounting. At MSU he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
On June 30, 1957, he married his wife, Dorothy Jean Russell. Moving to Tupelo in 1959, Russell worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 38 years, retiring in 1995. Following his retirement, he established Yarborough Insurance Agency. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as president of the Administrative Board and on various committees. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and served as president of Lee County MSU Alumni Association, and was a past president of the Tupelo Country Club Board.
Russell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a passion for golf and was an avid MSU fan. He never met a stranger and one could always count on his friendship.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Jim Curtis officiating. Dr. Benton Hilbun will deliver a Eulogy.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; one son, Russell Taylor Yarborough of Tupelo; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Yarborough Whalen (Rob) of Memphis, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Sarah Katherine Whalen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Fenner Yarborough; one brother, Raymond Yarborough; one sister, Mary Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Benton Hilbun Sr., Len Pegues, Billy Wheeler, Jim Threldkeld, Irvin Prude, Charles McGill, Mickey Holliman, Jerry Clayton, Jerry Hollingsworth, Dick Hill and James Williams.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 23, 2013, and 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday.

Willard Hicks Allen
HIGHLANDS, N.C. – Willard Hicks Allen died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Highlands Cashiers Hospital, Highlands, N.C., following a brief illness. She was 102 years old.
Mrs. Allen was born July 19, 1910, in Belmont and moved to Tupelo as a young girl. She was a talented musician and served her community by teaching music and playing the piano. She was also the organist at the First Baptist Church in Tupelo, played the piano for the Businessmen’s Bible Class for 20 years, and was the pianist for the local Lions Club. She loved clothes and established “Willard’s Store” in Tupelo, which she operated for 12 years until marrying Lawrence H. Allen, an executive in the utility industry.
The couple lived in Evanston, Ill., where Mr. Allen was in business. While in Illinois, Mrs. Allen learned to play golf, a game which she enjoyed for many years to come. After a few years in Evanston, the couple returned to Tupelo where Mrs. Allen was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and played the piano for several Sunday School classes. She swam regularly and was six-time ladies golf champion at the Tupelo Country Club, where she also was awarded seven hole-in-one plaques. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Allen moved to Chestnut Hill of Highlands, Highlands, N.C., in 1999 to be closer to her brother, Ralph Hicks, and his wife, Barbaranne, of Cashiers, N.C.
At Chestnut Hill, Mrs. Allen never lost interest in fashion and always amazed her friends with her good-looking outfits. She learned to play bridge as a young girl, and continued to play until shortly before her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Highlands.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbaranne Hicks; three nieces, Leigh Hicks Kouns (husband, Richard), Anne Hicks Hudspeth (husband, Keith) and Ramona Lee Hicks Camara (husband, Manuel); and a nephew, Ralph Wallace Hicks (spouse, Deborah Babb).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 501 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38804.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, March 23, 2013, at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 a.m. at W.E. Pegues, 535 W. Jefferson St., Tupelo, MS 38804.

James Watkins
VERONA – James Anthony Watkins, 84, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born March 1, 1929, to John Watkins Sr. and Annie Morris Watkins.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Verona with the Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Verona Cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by three daughters, Annie Sue McCutcheon and Barbara Vernita (Melvin) Calmes, both of Tupelo, and Mavis “Mel” (Mychael) Brasley of Aberdeen; three brothers, Levi Watkins, John Watkins and Henry Watkins, all of Verona; one sister, Johnnie Mae Long of Verona; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Watkins of Verona; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zera Mae Watkins; two sons, James Henry Watkins and Gilbert J. Watkins; one brother, Lee Watkins; and one sister, Rosanna Babbitt.

Hazel Copeland
BALDWYN – Hazel M. Swinney Copeland, 89, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born June 24, 1923, to Hosey and Mittie Bell Swinney. She was a member of Mt. Zion Community Church, where she was an usher. She was a member of the senior ministries, the Home Demonstration Club for many years and Heroines of Jericho Court 67.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Community Church with the Rev. J.S. Agnew officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Nebo (C.G.M.& S.) Cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangement.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Copeland; two daughters, Margaret (Bobby) Stubbs and Brenda (Roy) Stubbs; two sons, Roy Jr. (Edna) Copeland and Alvin Copeland; one sister-in-law, Lillie Pearl Coleman; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Copeland Wright; and a son, Joseph Copeland.

Kimberly Storey
RIPLEY – Kimberly Lashawn Simmons Storey, 44, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. She was born Jan. 31, 1969. She graduated from Northwest Community College with a degree in coemstology. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ripley Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery. Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements. Repast will be at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Justice Storey; her sons, Gerald Batie and Shun Marshall; grandson, Jeremiah Jefferson; brother, Charles Simmons (Robbin); sisters, Chanita Dixon (Tyrone) and Felicia Spight (Melvin); special nieces, Teresa Hunter and Lucretia Carruth; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Squeaky” Storey; a son, Baby Storey; and her parents, Charles and Jo Simmons.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service time Sunday.

Virginia Kitchens
PONTOTOC – Virginia Dixie Kitchens, 75, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at Tupelo Hospice Care. She was born Feb. 3, 1938, in Belzoni to George Robert Holliday Sr. and Sarah Bates Holliday. She lived in the Laurel area. She was a retired cashier.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Serenity-Autry Funeral Chapel in Pontotoc.
Survivors include four children, Lewis Hitchcock of Columbus, Ronnie Hitchcock of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jo Hitchcock of Caledonia and Patricia Haynes of Pontotoc; two brothers, Clinton Bates Holliday of Corpus Christi, Texas, and George “Bob” Holliday Jr. of Ridgeland; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Donna Parker
AMORY – Donna Dean Smith Parker, 75, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on April 12, 1937, in Iuka, she was a daughter of the late Lenny and Lurrell Pearl Ackers Smith. She attended Iuka schools, where she was a basketball All-Star. Before retiring, she had worked at Amory Garment, Monroe Trouser, True Temper, Walker Manufacturing, and Tecumseh. Passionate about her faith, she was Baptist. Living for her family and very proud of her daughters, she always looked forward to family gatherings. She enjoyed country music, working in her flowers, camping and traveling.
She is survived by daughters, Melissa Myatt (Willie), Donnie Thornton (Mark) and Connie Parker, all of Amory; grandchildren, Shon and Alonzo Myatt, Darron Thornton (Megan), Pierce Thornton and Amanda Knight; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Keith, Linley and Emma Thornton; and special friend of 23 years, Melvin Benton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Parker; granddaughter, Donna Nicole Myatt; and two infant grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Jones officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Shon Myatt, Alonzo Myatt, Darron Thornton and Pierce Thornton.

Helen Swinney
BOONEVILLE – Helen Lee Maddox Swinney, 79, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Baldwyn Nursing Facility. She was born April 3, 1933, in Booneville to William Luther Maddox and Ollie Wilemon Maddox. She was a caregiver. She enjoyed her animals and spending time with her family.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, James F. Swinney III (Kim) of Booneville; a sister, Betty Ashmore of Michigan City, Ind.; a grandson, Jay Swinney of Booneville; a niece, Linda Wallis (Bobby) of Booneville; and two nephews, Jimmy Maddox (Sue) and Billy West, all of Booneville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jean Lowe; a brother, James Maddox; and a niece, Brenda West.

James R. Skelton
HOLLY SPRINGS – James R. Skelton, 74, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Doyle Reeves
FULTON – Roger Doyle Reeves, 76, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born April 19, 1936, to William Curtis Reeves and Liola Rogers Reeves. He retired from Loden Butane Gas after 20-plus years of service. He was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ, where he had previously served as an elder for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and visiting with friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton with Bro. Russ Crosswhite and Bro. Ryan Ary officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden.
He is survived by one daughter, Rachelle (Freddie) Plunkett of Fulton; one son, Kevin (Robyn) Reeves of Raleigh, N.C.; three granddaughters, Kelsie Plunkett of Fulton, Kaitlyn Plunkett of Fulton and Courtney Reeves of Raleigh, N.C.; grandson, Kory Plunkett of Fulton; two sisters, Mayola (Jimmy) Massey of Red Bay, Ala., and Shirley Jean Wooldridge of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Curtis Reeves; his mother, Liola Reeves; his wife, Christeen Reeves; two brothers, Kenneth Reeves and Bobby Reeves; and two sisters, Galene Thomas and Patsy Shepper.
Elders and deacons of Pine Grove Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.

FULTON – Nancy Christian, 95, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born Feb. 11, 1918, to Curtis Dennis and Effie Prestage Dennis. She was a member of Tilden Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking and feeding people. A faithful servant of God, she loved reading her Bible every day. She went out of her way to help people.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton with J.C. Enlow officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Marty Christian of Fulton; two grandsons, Robert Blake Christian of Fulton and John Reed Christian of New Haven, Conn.; and two sisters, Geneta Clouse of Fulton and Vivian Reeves of Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Trelvie Christian; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Christian; her father, Curtis Dennis; her mother, Effie Dennis; a brother, Tommy Dennis; and three sisters, Bertha Grammer, Reba Enlow Louise Wright.

WALNUT – Joseph Coolidge Wilbanks, 80, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born March 30, 1932, in Brownfield to Allen and Rose Jones Wilbanks. He was employed at Gunter’s Supermarket in Tupelo for more than 20 years. He was a member of Grace Apostolic Church in Middleton, Tenn.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Community Pentecostal Church in Walnut. Bro. Gary Porterfield and Bro. Travis Wilbanks will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Travis Wilbanks (Lisa) of Pocahontas, Tenn., and Larry Wilbanks (Donna) of Walnut; two daughters, Tammy Yeach (Larry) and Angela Wilbanks (Jimmy), both of Walnut; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys May Sanders Wilbanks; his parents; one daughter, Debra Hodge; one son, David Wilbanks; a grandson, Kevin Wilbanks; a son-in-law, Johnny Hodge; and several brothers and sisters.

Raymond Litton
PONTOTOC – Raymond Burns Litton, 86, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was honorably discharged from the Army in September 1949. He worked in furniture all his life and loved all the employees. He also loved his racking horses and horse shows. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. The Rev. David Westmoreland will officiate. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Glenda Litton Meade, Elton Litton (Bonnie) and David Litton (Wanda); grandchildren, Kari Litton Robertson (Bryan), Brad Litton, Milicyn Little and Beth Grisham (Jay); and great-grandchildren, Zan Robertson, Solomon Robertson, Leti Robertson and Caleb Grisham.

Iva Swindle
BALDWYN – Iva E. Swindle, 88, formerly of Baldwyn, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Asbury Place in Pensacola, Fla. She was a former employee of Bernis Tapp Grocery in Baldwyn and Blue Bell Manufacturing. She was a Baptist.
Services were Friday, March 22, at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn. Bro. Dean Warren officiated. Burial was in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by a sister, Edith McVey (Jacque) of Pensacola; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vardy and Flossie Aaron Swindle.

BOONEVILLE – Travis C. Sample, 84, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was born Sept. 8, 1928, to Jack and Viola Lentz Sample. He was retired from Marathon Cheese. He was a member of Booneville Church of God.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Arthur Miller officiating and Scott Sample delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Aveline Randolph Sample; one daughter, Hilda (Mike Bennett) Tackett of Booneville; three sons, Michael (Evelyn) Sample, Mitchell (Patty) Sample and Mark (Michelle) Sample, all of Booneville; nine grandchildren, Scott (LaChrisha) Sample, Matthew (Natalie) Sample, Lee (Allison) McCoy, Monica (Kenny) Gann, Hannah McCoy, Brian Sample, Tricia (Anthony) Agnew, Tabitha (Termaiyne) Sorrell, and Tameria Sample; and 19 great-grandchildren.

H.B. Horton Sr.
TROY – Hubert Byron Horton Sr., 94, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a Baptist and retired from Futorian Manufacturing, after 35 years, where he was a Quality Control manager. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a tech sergeant. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with the Rev. Earl Barron officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his son, H.B. Horton Jr. (Frances); two grandsons, Brad Horton (Christy) and Jared Horton (Liz); and five grandchildren, Darren Griffin, Abby Smith, Paige Horton, Landon Horton and Ethan Horton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Hamilton Horton and Dolly Hinton Horton; his wife, Mary Alene Johnson Horton; his sister, Mary Alice Caffee; and a brother, Marvin Horton.
Pallbearers will be Larry Poe, Mike Poe, Eddie Caffee, Ricky Caffee, Walter Parker, Matthew Poe and Jay Poe.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
