Bob Ward
Robert “Bob” Mack Ward, 73, of Texas died March 15, 2013, at Hospice of Austin-Christopher House. He was born to Rebecca Hall Ward and Orville Maxie Ward on Nov. 14, 1939, in Detroit Mich., but was raised in Big Creek, Miss., with his four younger brothers. After graduating from Big Creek High School in 1957 he began his service in the Mississippi National Guard while also working for McQuay Inc. In 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with distinction for 22 years, earning the Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, Bronze 4 Loops; National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with numerals 3; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device; and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
Bob married Joyce Herron in 1961 and was the proud father of Bettie Ward McCarthy, born in Ft. Polk, La., in 1962, and Janet Rebecca Ward, born while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1965. After retiring from the Military as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1983, he continued his service overseas working for civilian contractors in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Kosovo; Cairo, Egypt; and Iraq before returning to Texas where he resided until his death.
Bob’s favorite past times were hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren, Austin Scott McCarthy (21 years) and Cameron Scott McCarthy (16 years). He was a kind, gentle soul who never met a stranger and was a true friend. Even though he lived in Texas for many years, his roots and heart were with his family in Mississippi, which included his brothers Jerry, Don and Paul Ward, and where he was “Uncle Bob” to a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rebecca and Orville Ward, and his brother, Terry Ward.
Bob is survived by wife, Joyce Ward; his daughters and grandchildren.
The Ward Family wants to express their gratitude to Hospice of Austin-Christopher House and the staff and caregivers who were our merciful angels in this difficult time.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 30, from noon to 2 p.m., immediately followed by services at the Pryor Funeral Home, located at 127 S. Main St., Calhoun City, MS. Mr. Robert Mack Ward will be laid to rest with full military honors at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry, Don and Paul Ward, and Scott, Austin and Cameron McCarthy.

Rev. Mark Morgan Jr.
SALTILLO – The Rev. Mark Alan Morgan Jr., 32, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in El Dorado, Ark., on Jan. 4, 1981, to the Rev. Mark and Debra Fields Morgan. He was a member and an Associate Pastor of the Temple of Praise Church in Verona. He especially enjoyed studying religion and was always involved in all aspects of the ministry from maintenance to teaching Bible Studies. Mark had previously worked as a supervisor in the family business, Morgan Painting Company. He currently was a night auditor with the Quality Inn of Tupelo. Mark was a 32nd degree Free Mason and Past Master of Lodge 459 in Drew. He was an avid collector and enjoyed collecting comic books, rare books and movies. A prolific writer, he enjoyed writing and was a member of the Writer’s Guild of America. An outgoing man, he never met a stranger and was passionate about helping those in need. He had a deep love for his family and gave of himself to encourage them in all of their pursuits. Mark was a devoted husband who adored his wife and his world revolved around her.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the East Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Shaw, the Rev. Tim Williams and the Rev. Mike Sumner officiating. Burial will be in Boguefala Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of four years, Joanie Lamb Morgan; his three sisters, Lora Suzanne Gipson, Esquire (Michael), Shannon Morgan and Erin Morgan (Lee Grady), all of Saltillo; one brother, John Morgan (Rachel); three nieces and two nephews, Sarah and Danielle Moore, Ella Morgan and Noah and Elijah Gipson; his maternal grandmother, Freda Fields of El Dorado, Ark.; his in-laws, Jimmy and Lynette Lamb of Tupelo; two sisters-in-law, Jenna Moore (Danny) of Oxford and Jamie Watkins (Tanner) of Tupelo; and his mother, Debbie Morgan of Saltillo.
He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Mark Alan Morgan Sr.
Pallbearers will be Robert Davis, Steven Hamrick, Charlie Price, Daniel Pitts, Keith Snider and Joel Morgan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, March 29, 2013, at the funeral home.

Geneva Shackelford
Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Lucill Lucius Shackelford, age 79, of Fayette, Ala., formerly of Shannon, Miss., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Doty Chapel Baptist Church. Bro. John Kitchens, pastor of Covin Baptist church where Mrs. Shackelford was a devoted member, will be officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Shackelford was born on Sept. 22, 1933, in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Wesley (Pete) Lucius and Myrtie Lee Lucius. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and a wonderful homemaker. She died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama, surrounded by her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Johnnie Kay Shackelford Sr., and a loving sister-in-law, Martha Lucius.
Survivors include her children, of which she considered her pride and joy, Brenda (Bobby Johnson) Shackelford of Shannon, Johnnie Kay (Donna) Shackelford Jr. of Texas City, Texas, Linda (Joey) Byars of Fayette, Ala.; three brothers and wonderful sisters-in-law, Wayne (Doris) Lucius, Wesley Frank Snap Lucius and Jim (Patricia) Lucius; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jesse Swinford, Justin Swinford, Greg Bell, Nick Kaiser, Adam Johnson and Daniel Johnson.

Demetric Holder
TUPELO – Demetric Leshan Holder, 40, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Aug. 12, 1972, to James and Lucille Garner. She joined Red Oak Grove M.B. Church in Saltillo at an early age. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1990 and attended ICC for two years.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Temple of Compassion and Deliverance with Bishop Clarence officiating and the Rev. Michael Williams delivering the eulogy. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Qwanisha Garner; her son, Quincy Holder; one granddaughter, Aubrey Morris; her parents, James and Lucille Garner; two sisters, Christi Garner and Porsha Garner; one brother, James Garner; her grandmothers, Johnnie Ruth Patton and Bessie Penson; her grandfather, Flander Penson; two nieces, Mariah and Makenzie; and a host of uncles and aunts.

WEST POINT – Gale P. Smith, 69, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Hinton
TUPELO – Willie Earl Hinton, 66, died Sunday, March 24, 2013. He was born Dec. 2, 1946, to Levora and Tommy Lee Hinton of Nettleton. He joined East Springhill M.B. Church at an early age.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nettleton Primary School Gymnasium with Pastor Michael Denman officiating. Burial will be in Mullen Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Angelia Hinton of Verona and Myisha Hinton of Baldwyn; one stepdaughter, Jafraka Billips of Baldwyn; two sons, Johnny Hinton of Verona and Tony Lee of Houston; three sisters, Luella Isby and Otha V. Washington of Nettleton, and Virginia Isby of Tupelo; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

David Carr
SALTILLO – David B. Carr, 64, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Saltillo, he was born Sept. 5, 1948, to Joseph F. and Frances Cecilia Gusmus Carr. A people person, he enjoyed talking and visiting with people. For many years, he and his brother owned and operated a barber shop in Saltillo. He enjoyed cars and worked 26 years as a car salesman for George Ruff and later for Frankie Blackmon. He also loved guns and after retirement 10 years ago, he founded and operated Carr’s Guns and Ammo in Saltillo. A family man, he enjoyed precious moments spent with his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in care of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Cindy Stanford Carr of Saltillo; his daughters, Cecilia Gardner (Richie) of Saltillo and Susan Carr (Timothy) of Alabama; two grandchildren, Lillie and Micah; and his brother, Judge Pat Carr (Josie).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Dillard.
Pallbearers will be Don Bennett, Dennis Taylor, Danny Copeland, Mike Robinson, Andy Gusmus, Brian Carr and Shane Carr.
Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Jay White.

ABBEVILLE – Willie Frank Fuller, 63, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Lafayette County to Lessie Lee Ivy and Elsie Flemons Fuller. He was formerly employed with Emerson Electric and with the University of Mississippi.

TUPELO – Paul A. Brooks, 53, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Feb. 20, 1960, in Lee County to Bennie Babbitt and the late Rebecca Brooks. He was a member of White Hill M.B. Church in Tupelo. He was an employee of Lane (Action) Mfg. in Tupelo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the Porter’s Memorial Garden. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangement.

Frankie Hobson
HOULKA – Frankie Coleman Hobson, 92, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at her residence in Houlka. A native of Chickasaw County, she was the daughter of Frank and Luvern Berry Coleman. She was a member of Thompson Chapel CME Church, where she was the third oldest member and former Benevolent treasurer. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho Houlka Court 145. She loved cooking, flowers, gardening, people and caring for animals.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Chapel CME Church. Elder Glenn Huggins will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in East County Line Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by three daughters, Lavenita (Albert) Rayford of Houlka, Delois Love of Racine, Wis., and Grace (Rev. Johnny) Jointer of Pontotoc; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Hobson; a favorite first cousin, Josie Dixon; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Hobson; one son, Carl Hobson; and one daughter, Dorothy Smith.

Pauline Woodard
PITTSBORO – Pauline Woodard, 90, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at home. She was a member of Clearsprings C.M.E. Church and the Evergreen Heroines of Jericho Court 19. She retired after 21 years at the Department of Public Welfare.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Church of God in Bruce. Apostle Ishmel Campbell will be officiating. Burial will be in the Clearsprings C.M.E Church Cemetery in Big Creek. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce in charge.
She is survived by three sons, Johnny Everage, Delane Woodard and Paul Douglas, all of Milwaukee; two sisters, Barbara Brown (Lemark) of Pittsboro and Army Carol Woods of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren and 15-plus great-grandchildren.

Mary Alice Wilbanks
MOBILE, Ala. – Mary Alice Wilbanks, 98, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at her residence. Born on July 29, 1914, in Madison, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Jones Ridley and Blanche Hubbard Gooch. She grew up in Jackson. She married James “Jimmy” Wilbanks in 1936. In 1941, they moved to Amory and lived here more than 50 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Amory.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Olensky (Fabian) of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Jay Olensky (Faye) of Mobile and Jamie McGarry (Thomas) of Little Rock, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Olensky, and Natalie and Hallie McGarry.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Historical Society Cemetery with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral home. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Lesia Johnson
FULTON – Lesia A. Reese Johnson, 46, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Courtyard Community Living Center in Fulton. She was born March 20, 1967, to Lonnie Arthur Reese and Virginia Ann Canup Baggett. She enjoyed painting, and drawing.
Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Johnson of Fulton; one daughter, Larissa Reese of Tupelo; four brothers, Lionel (Tahsha) Reese of Haleyville, Ala., Dennis (Cynthia) Lesley of Fulton, Tommy Lesley of Fulton and Phillip Lesley; one sister, Patricia (Brian) Drummond of Alabaster, Ala.; granddaughter, Chyanne Wommack of Tupelo; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lonnie Arthur Reese; her mother, Virginia Ann Baggett; and a brother, Terry Lesley.

Wiley Young
BLUE SPRINGS – Wiley Young, 55, died Monday, March 25, 2013, in Lee County. He was born June 22, 1957, to Wiley Joe Young and Madaline Pickering Young. He attended Ecru High School and worked as a self-employed carpenter before becoming disabled. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, scuba diving and sky diving. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and was well known and loved by his family and many friends. He was a great father and friend. He attended Victory Life Center in New Albany.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Pontotoc. Holland Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Jason Young (Blakley) of Tupelo; one daughter, Aubrei Bedford (Michael Wilson) of Tupelo; two brothers, Billy Young of Ecru and Waymon Young (Kathy) of Pontotoc; four sisters, Linda Kelly (James Easterling) of Endville, Margaret Taylor (Tommy) of New Albany, Norma Harlow of Blue Springs and Nancy Curry of Palmetto community; three grandchildren, Tai Bedford, Allie Young and Carlee Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Judy Young; and a brother, John William Young.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Skinner, Brad Ivy, Nicky Harlow, Tim Hall, Waymon Young and Don Samford.

Terral Reese Jr.
ABERDEEN – Terral Reese Jr., 71, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. Born Oct. 24, 1941, in Hamilton, he was a son of the late Terral and Mittie Mae Wolf Reese. He was a member of the Holiness church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Before his retirement, he was a heavy equipment mechanic for Chancellor and Son Construction.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in the Howell Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Chism Brown Reese of Aberdeen; three daughters, Lisa Diane Reese of Florida, Kathy Faye Bone of Calhoun City and Lisa Darlene Brown Hissong (George) of Aberdeen; four sons, James Terral Reese (Virginia) of Pope, Charles Allen Brown (Anita) of Mooreville, Howard Dewayne Brown (Laura) of Aberdeen and Terral Anthony Reese of Aberdeen; five sisters, Betty Jo Reynolds (Reggie) of Greenwood, Gracie Mae Messer of Senatobia, Sarah Jane Goodwin (John) of Memphis, Annie Sue Ables (Archie) of Coffeeville and Linda Jean Crocker (Neal II) of Coffeeville; two brothers, Robert Earl Reese (Merle) of Aberdeen and James Thomas Reese (Virginia) of Grenada; five grandchildren, Brandon Dewayne Brown, Yancy Andrew Bone, Elva Springer, Jessica Reese and J.T. NEW ALBANY – Jerry Micheal Hogue, 54, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born Feb. 8, 1959, in New Albany to George Washington Hogue and Earline Hall Hogue. He was a retired employee of Albany Industries. He was a member of the Wallerville Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wallerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Rakestraw and the Rev. Jeff Watts officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hogue of New Albany; a stepdaughter, Candi McDowell (Jimmy) of Sherman; two sons, Ben Hogue (Donna) and Phil Hogue (Holly), both of New Albany; a stepson, Jeremy Watts (Tina) of New Albany; two sisters, Cheryl McDaniel of New Albany and Carol Thomas of Saltillo; a brother, Johnny Hogue (Sharon) of New Albany; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jacky Butler
POTTS CAMP – Jacky Wayne Butler, 52, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born Oct. 26, 1960, in New Albany to William Ezra Butler and Louise Hale Butler. He was a welding supervisor. He loved cooking out and doing things for others.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Steve Wilson and the Rev. Tim Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his parents, William Ezra Butler and Louise Butler of Myrtle; his wife, Rhonda Butler of Potts Camp; a daughter, Charity Butler of Okalona; two stepdaughters, Kristy Barnes (Mac) of Ripley and Amanda Roberds of Myrtle; a son, Jeff Butler (Ashley) of Blue Mountain; a stepson, Chris Roberds of New Albany; five sisters, Judy Peters (Nicolas) of Jackson, Tenn., Amy Kiddy (Mike), Brenda Cook (Mitchell), Debra Jumper (Allen) and Sharon Allred (Mike) all of Myrtle; five brothers, Mike Butler (Kim) of Franklin, Tenn., James Butler (Dora) of Myrtle, Roger Butler (Debi) of Potts Camp, Robert Butler (Tracy) of Etta and Hugh Butler (Betty) of Myrtle; two grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Lee Butler.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Pickens, Bubba Butler, Willie Butler, Mickey Butler, Chauncy Butler, Michael Butler, David Michael Kiddy, Justin Butler and Cody Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Willard, David Farr, William Carpenter, Wilburn Hale, Gerald Hale, Raymond Chism, Willie Stanford and Joe McDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall Mullins of Walnut; two daughters, Lisa Shea (John “Tinker”) of Tiplersville and Teresa McKenzie (Carlton) of Walnut; one son, Greg Mullins (Suzy) of Walnut; four sisters, Dorothy Bennett (John) of Tiplersville, Mayzell Mercer (Jimmy) of Falkner, Jean Mathis and Debbie Richardson, both of Walnut; one brother, Randle Richardson (Pam) of Burnsville; six grandchildren, Kristy Shea (Nick) of Tiplersville, Erica Ketchum (Andy), Hailey Weatherly (Kyle), Tyler Ketchum and Madalyn Mullins, all of Walnut, and Colton Shea of Tiplersville; seven great-gandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leroy, Wayne and T.J. Richardson; one sister, Nelda Lyles and one grandchild, Toni Lynn Ketchum.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bennett, Roy Lee Richardson, Bobby Richadson, T.J. Richardson, Scott Mercer and DeWayne Lyles.

MANTACHIE – Louise M. Cody, 87, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at her home in Mantachie. She was born July 13, 1925, to Roy T. and Louella Deaton Mauldin. She was raised in Tremont but spent most of her adult life in Tupelo until moving to Mantachie in 1991. For over 40 years she served as a seamstress for Blue Bell Manufacturing. After retiring from Blue Bell, she worked as a private nurse and caregiver for the elderly. She was a member of First Jesus Church in Mantachie.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Jacky Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two sons, Eddy Alexander (Phyllis) of Mantachie and Hubert Cody Jr. (Mary Sue) of Tupelo; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
