Elisha Thomas Sr.
VERONA – Elisha Thomas Sr. died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Tupelo. He was born June 19, 1923, in Maben to Berry Thomas and Lucy McElmerry Thomas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Palmetto CME Church in Verona, with the Rev. Leo Wright officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. N.L. Jones is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Earlene Thomas; six sons, Willie Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Sylvester Thomas (Ann), Elisha Thomas Jr. (Sherry), Allen Thomas and Curtis Thomas (Marilyn), all of Tupelo; two brothers, Willie James Thompson and William Thompson (Jeanette), both of Mantee; two sisters, Essie Bell Reed McGee and S.C. Lee, both of West Point; a special nephew and niece, the Rev. H.B. Sadler (Daisy) and Dorothy Miller (Otha); and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; two brothers; and one daughter.
Visitation 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home with family hour 5 to 6 p.m.

NEW ALBANY – Matthew David Kyle, 28, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service in New Albany.

BOONEVILLE – June Lorine White, 71, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Community Hospice in Verona.
No funeral services are scheduled. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

L. Dean Quarles
RANDOLPH – L. Dean Quarles, 85, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice. He was born April 17, 1927, to Willia Jesse Quarles and Lillian Mae Glenn Quarles. He was a retired bulldozer operator of more than 30 years, working with the city, county and highway departments. He joined the Army in 1945 and was assigned to the military police in the Philippines during WWII, where he guarded Japanese prisoners. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1947. His hobbies were working with horses, cows and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Carey Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Junior Ritchie officiating. Burial is at Carey Springs Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine Steward Quarles; children, Beverly Jolly (Tim), Randy Quarles (Jennifer), Tim Quarles (Angie) and Lisa Holcomb (William), all of Randolph; grandchildren, Josh Jolly, Amanda Hughes (Andy), Corey Jolly (Shelby), Austin Cook, Hannah Quarles, Shelby Quarles, Kelsey Quarles, Hunter Fooshee, Gary Holcomb and Gayle Holcomb; brother, Gene Quarles (Nell); and sisters, Jewell Holley (Dean) and Dorothy Maxes.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lynn Quarles; his parents; three brothers, Billy Wayne Quarles, J.C. Quarles and Winston Quarles; and one nephew, Johnny Quarles.
Pallbearers will be the North Mississippi Medical Center Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Holcomb, Hunter Fooshee, Corey Jolly, Josh Jolly, Austin Cook, Tom Todd, Ellis Reeder, Leighton Benjamin, Jackie Windfield and Ronald Quarles.
Visitation is noon until service time today at the church.

NEW ALBANY – Peggy Granger, 65, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service in New Albany.

VARDAMAN – Ellie Louise Hellums Head, 78, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Calhoun Health Service Hospital in Calhoun City. She was born Nov. 15, 1934, at Springhill in Lafayette County, to John Warren Hellums and Willie Avis White Moore. She was a homemaker and retired employee of Franklin Manufacturing in Houston.
Service is at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce, with Bro. Robert Earl Alexander officiating. Interment is at Poplar Springs Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Randy McKiney (Shirley) of Houston; five sisters, Annice H. Jenkins of Bruce, Syville H. Wells of Horn Lake, Annie H. Parker of Pittsboro, Vannie Hellums of Wynne, Ark., and Frances H. Brown of Bruce; stepmother, Christeen Hellums of Vardaman; two brothers, David Hellums of Pearl, Henry Moore of Vardaman; five grandchildren, John, Shawn, Jason and Brad McKiney and Beverly Edge (Jimmy); six great-grandchildren, Ben, Cheyenne and Tori McKinney, Coty and Mathew Edge and Kayla Jo Hamilton; one great-great-grandson, Kyle Nichols.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clark Jackson Head; two sons, Willie Ray McKiney and Eddie Dean McKiney; two grandsons, Steven Dean “Stevie” McKiney and Samuel Edge; and two brothers, Johnny Moore and Joseph Coleman “Joey” Hellums.
Pallbearers are Jason Aron, John John Campbell, James K. Hardin, Dewayne Hellums, Rodney Hellums, Michael Landreth, Wesley Moore and Brad McKiney. Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Brown, Robbie Head and Billy Moore.

EUPORA – Helen Dunstan Eudy Sugg, 98, died Thurday, Feb. 28, 2013.

WALNUT – Paulette Meeks died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at her residence. She was born on Oct. 21, 1948, in Tippah County, to Johnnie R.L. and Mary Lee Null Wilbanks. She graduated from Walnut High School in 1966, began working at ITT in 1973 and retired in 2010. She was a member of Community Pentecostal Church.
Services are set for 4 p.m. today at Community Pentecostal Church in Walnut with Bro. Gary Porterfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Meeks of Walnut; one daughter, Angie Piper (Jim) of Walnut; one son, Shane Meeks of Walnut; two brothers, Kenneth Wilbanks of Houston, Texas, and Wayne Wilbanks of Walnut; one sister, Linda Robertson of Corinth; five grandchildren, Kayle Bernier (Kyle) of Adamsville, Tenn., Zadie, Kerri Lane and Brian Piper and Kye Meeks; one great-grandson; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Reba Harris
BELMONT – Reba Joy Harris, 88, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Iuka Hospital. She was born in Dennis on June 11, 1924, and was retired from Blue Bell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont, with Bro. Randy Buse and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden.
Survivors are her brother, Roy Harris (Patsy) of Belmont; five nephews, Mike Harris (Melody), Jimmy Kennedy (Gina), Steve George, Roger Castleberry (Charlene) and Randy Castleberry (Amy); and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russie Quitman and Carrie Samantha Harris; and three sisters, Ann George, Jean Kennedy and Darlene Castleberry.
Pallbearers will be Mike Harris, Colin Harris, Jimmy Kennedy, Beau Kennedy, P.J. Cleveland, Steve George, Roger Castleberry and Randy Castleberry.

Joyce Liming
ASHLAND – Joyce Marie Shelby Liming, 82, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Ashland Health and Rehab in Ashland. She was born July 12, 1930, to Charles Alfred and Gussie Mae Wilbanks Shelby. She was a member of Medlock Methodist Church and a homemaker, seamstress and beautician.
Services will at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Coltharp and the Rev. Vincent Shelby officiating. Burial will in Blackjack Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Nina Shoup (Samuel) of Ashland, Debbie Jordan (Joseph) of Corinth and Tracy Wren (John) of Falkner; one son, Mark Lavell Liming (Angela) of Hackleburg, Ala.; one brother, Bobby Shelby (Lucille) of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gatha Lavell Liming; two sisters; and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Michael, Trey and John Shoup, Zachary and Ty King, and Gaylon Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Avery Liming and Jacob Shoup.

PONTOTOC – Dorothy Marie Taylor, 72, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a housewife and mother of 56 years. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Childress officiating. Burial is at Eddington Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Alton” Taylor; children, Cynthia M. Hoff, Diane L. Pruett, Debby A. Dirkse, Michael D. Taylor, Terry E. McAnally and Leda K. Stanley; siblings, Bernard and James Cockrum of Sacramento, Calif., Joy Etta (Vince) Ferguson and Elena (Leo) Long of Wilburn, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice Williams Cockrum and Elbert Huber Cockrum; and son, Charles Taylor.
Pallbearers are Christina Johnson, Rober McPherson, Troy Dirkse; Michael Taylor, Philip Johnston, Elliot Johnston and Jesse Taylor.

SHANNON – Minnie Williams, 83, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Williams Memorial of Okolona.
James Canningham
OKOLONA – James H. “Bro” Canningham, 105, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Shearer Richardson Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 22, 1907, to L.C. Canningham and Indiana Canningham. He was a life long resident of Okolona and a deacon at the Clark Chapel Church. He provided taxi service for Okolona until past his 100th birth date.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Clark Chapel MB Church with the Rev. Larry Shannon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda (Joe) Bafford of Cleveland, Tenn., Indiana (Larry) Greig of Tupelo and Carol Canningham (Terrance) of Okolona; special daughter, Gail (William) Wilburn; and son, James T. Canningham (Lartha) of Okolona.

Randall Smith
BOONEVILLE – Randall Smith, 79, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Landmark Nursing and Rehab. He was born Dec. 15, 1933, to Chester and Verlin McCarley Smith. He was retired from INTEX Plastics and a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and going to the mountains.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandi (Larry) Bethay of Booneville; and one son, Michael Smith of Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jean Smith; his parents; and one brother, Morris Smith.
